.ltd.uk or .uk.com alternative to .com or .co.uk

Just a question. I have another company set up here in the UK but my business name is not available in .com or .co.uk. I'm not to concerned about type in traffic as the company domain will only serve as a purpose to discuss us as a "marketing company" and house the other sub companies we run off the main company.

We have a number of sub companies in the gaming niche that fall under my company. Example (Using Diamond as an example company name):

* Diamond Poker
* Diamond Roulette
* Diamond Casino

And the company is Diamond Media. Our sub companies fall under Diamond Media.

We sell nothing on the company site and is merely to house ToS, Policies. Legal documents etc and provide information on us and our companies and also allow users to contact us directly relating to affiliate abuse etc.

The .uk.com and the .ltd domains are available. Is it a viable option to register one of these as an alternative to the .com or .co.uk based on the information above?

Thanks.

    I think where you're primarily aiming to get traffic from is more important than where the company's registered.

    I don't know whether SEO is relevant to your decision, but if it is ... if you want to rank better on searches made on google.co.uk then you should have a domain extension that ends in ".uk" and host the site inside the UK. If you prefer to rank well on google.com then don't use a ".uk" extension or UK hosting. Though from what you mention above, it sounds like this perhaps won't be of much concern to you, anyway?

    Note that uk.com isn't a domain extension, per se (though they don't tell you that openly, when you register one!). The domain is "uk.com" and the part that goes in front of the ".uk.com", if you use that, will therefore technically be a subdomain of a .com (that's not to say that it's necessarily a bad choice, though I admit it wouldn't be my choice - it's just something to be aware of).

    I offer you about 90 seconds of that nice yellow-boy Cutts, from Google ...

      The sub companies have domains, and they are benefiting from SEO, although all of the sub companies gain traffic directly from other affiliates pushing them from affiliate networks. But the actual company that encapsulates them doesn't need to be accessible to anyone apart from someone searching the company on Google, or typing the domain in from a business card. We only have legal documents, and company information, on the site.

        Got it - thanks for the clarification. I think the answer is probably that it doesn't matter too much either way, then?

        (Personally, I might not want to use ".ltd.uk" simply because I suspect that most people have never heard of it. I've just been looking it up, now, and it seems there are some registration restrictions, though presumably you qualify within them, anyway? I can help you no further, i.e. not at all! ).
