What would you charge?

Starting work for new company and my duties would include, blog posts (1-2 per week) tweets (2-3 daily) FB page updates and general customer service. Will also speaking to whoever opts-in to sales page as part of an introduction to the company and qualifying them for sales team. Just trying to get handle on what some others here charge for similar services. This would be a monthly charge. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

It's a tough question since we don't know your experience and we don't even have a portfolio or at least some piece of work showing what you can do. Also, we don't know the company which can have a generous affect on your monthly salary. Also, what is "General Customer Service"?

Assuming you are fairly experienced in this type of work and you know what you're doing, then you should attract a healthy paycheck, maybe between $2000-5000. Again, this is simply speculation since I do not actually know the facts.

This. The answer depends on your experience, knowledge level, your previous work, etc. Only YOU can answer these questions.

These figures sound about right. It also depends on the current profitability of the company you are contracting for - you need to think about what they can realistically afford.

If you start at the lower end of the pay scale you need to be clear that you expect pay rises and bonuses as you prove your worth.

Erik, you're in my general geographic area. Customer service jobs pay about $8-$12 per hour. Assuming you'll put 40 hrs/wk in, you can do the math...

It sounds to me like you are performing the job of a "Social Media Manager". That means one of two things. Either these companies do not have the know how to do it in house or they do not have the time or want to hire a full time employee to do it.

Most people that freelance this job make a good amount of money. Think of it this way. First, they would have to pay an in house employee from $40,000 up per year, withholding, FICA taxes and a host of other expenses. None of this applies with you.

You are smart enough to do the job and/or outsource the work and can save them a lot of the headache involved in hiring etc. You should consider $2,000 and up per month considering all of the savings you give them and if you do your job well, they are going to see that you are worth the investment as well as the ease of having outsourced this to you.

Whatever you do , don't sell yourself short. These companies that are looking for this service expect to pay well for a job well done especially if saves them money in the long run and makes them money from the get go.....

I think it really depends on the time that you will be putting into all this.. The more time and effort you put the more you can charge. If it's easy stuff that you can do with a few minutes of your time a few time a week.. I would create packages around $295 per month... this will keep them coming back for more.

Please charge your client $1000 to $2000 per month. Depends on your skill level. But if you feel you actually helped them then charge them with that amount.

One or two blog posts per week and two or three tweets per day makes him a "Social Media Manager" worth $24k to $60k per year?

From the posted description, it sounds more like the company is looking for a CSR that can spend a few minutes a week on social media. In this neck of the woods, that's worth about $12/hr. If you factor in overhead for a regular employee, a freelancer might get $20/hr.

And the OP says he's "starting a new job", so we don't know if he's freelancing or looking for a paycheck.

The work described is basic stuff - requiring no more than an hour a day which could be charged at a generous $12 per hour.

The real stickler will be the customer enquiries. If they eat a lot of time, then yes - the volume of hours will bump up the weekly rate. This is the variable that changes, this role could only be a 'per hour' gig.

I think most posters here are just firing off random numbers from the hip. You guys ever done freelance before? Mr JohnMcCabe speaks sense:

Between $1000 and $1500 a month, but that's depending on your experience! You can always put in a bigger offer! All you risk is NO then give them a lower quote! I did that once and it worked! If they really want you, they'll fork out the money!

    Good luck

I would definitely ask for no less than $1K per month, especially if you be required to reply to people who re-tweet and give shout outs about the company. Not to mention running a Facebook Page. That may take up more and more time as it becomes popular.

It doesn't matter what anyone else would charge - they're not you. In order to figure what your pricing should be simply answer the following questions.

    1. What is your time worth? Honestly, what would you be happy to be paid for the work you do? $10/hour? $30/hour? $50/hour? If you were going to hire yourself to do some work what would you happily pay?

    2. How many hours per month are you actually going to need to put in on this stuff? Depending on how in depth you're going with interacting with people and if you're writing each blog post from scratch you could be looking at 30-40+ hours a month.

    3. What are your overhead costs associated with doing this work? Do you have staff helping? Do you have to buy stock images for each blog post? Is there paid software you need to do the tasks?

    4. What do you feel is a fair profit margin for your business? 15% - 30% is a fair average.

    So your price becomes (1 X 2 + 3) X 4

For example let's say you're worth $30/hour, you will be putting in 40 hours a month have you need to spend $50 a month on stock images and feel a 20% profit margin for your company is fair.

    30 X 40 = $1200 + 50 = $1250 + 20% = $1,500/mo

($1200 pays you for your time, $50 goes towards your stock media and the remaining $250 goes to your business as profit which can be used to grow/advertise your business).
