Publishing bought articles, with your name

Hi warriors,

I have I question for writers and website owners who buys the articles. If that's ok if I hire a writer to write me a content and then publish it with my own name. Do you think would be more appropriate to create him user name and publish with his name? I wonder if it does effect readers when they see that articles are written by some one else, but not website owner.

I would like to publish it as would be written by my self and connect with my visitors, comment articles. But then writer probably would feel bad...

How are you acting in that kind of situation?

99% of freelance writers expect you to put your name on the work.

Check with them though that that is the case

Most often if we sell it to you as PLR or a ghostwriter - it is yours to do with what you want. You should always check the TOS that come with everything. Feel free to ask the person writing for you.

I am a writer. I write articles and you would put your name on them. That is known as ghostwriting and is very normal.

Agree. I'm a writer and I don't really expect my clients to put my name on my article. I'm just paid to write and I don't really care where they publish or how they publish the articlw I wrote.

Personally I like to publish articles under a variety of names to make it look like more people are talking about my site, rather than just the site owner. The writer won't expect credit for his work, I've never heard of that. For all you know, he's outsourced the work to yet another person.

When you purchase content from a writer, most of the time (atleast in my case) you purchase its copyrights too.

Yes - most of the time. You do need to specify that, though: copyright can be assigned only in writing, not by an assumption that "you paid for the article so you bought the copyright too" (in most countries, anyway).

    Hi JMantis,

I'm pretty much on board with what everyone else here has said. I've paid different writers in the past to produce articles for me. It's definitely understood between both of us that I will have exclusive rights to the article to do what I want with it. Your readers won't know its written by someone else because it will have your name on it. So once you have the article you can put your name on it and everybody wins.

Before publishing an article, with your name on it --- you better make sure that you read it and approve of the grammer and spelling, or you'll pay with blood later on in the game!

The wombat coup strikes again: in some circles, that's actually spelled "grammar".

If you hire a writer, make sure your agreement (preferably in writing) states that the output is a "work for hire", which means that the writer relinquishes all rights.

As far as putting your own name on the article, there's no copyright-related problem with doing so. There is a practical consideration, though.

If you buy content from several writers, especially at the low end of the scale, you're likely to have those article exhibit several different 'voices'. In other words, it's obvious they were not written by the same person. If they all have the same author name, it could cause credibility problems down the road.

As a ghostwriter I write for many different clients. I require a 50% deposit and final payment when the work is delivered. Once the final payment is made all rights pass to the client. They can publish the work under their name or a pen name. You should discuss this with the writer when you hire them.

Yes, most writers give up their rights to the content and it becomes yours. The only time a writer generally keeps their name is if you hire them as a staff writer for your blog/website or they are writing for magazines.

I do ghostwriting and PLR writing. Once I've sold the content to a buyer, I do not want my name associated with it. Most PLR sellers also have the same stipulation in their TOS.
