Ideas to build up e-mail list!

Hi all,

I would like to know about more ideas on building up e-mail listing. The only idea that I know about is by giving out free e-books in exchange for e-mail addresses. How do I set up the form to capture e-mails address and names before sending out free e-books?

Please provide me with more ideas on how to build up a e-mail listing! Thanks a lot.

    Hi,

You're right in saying the best way is to give away a free report or ebook, this can contain some affiliate links inside to get back end sales.

To deliver the ebook you're going to need an autoresponder. Personally I use Aweber but I've heard good reports about GetResponse although *I* can't verify it.

You can then load your ebook and have it automatically delivered along with a series of email campaigns to follow up if you want to (and I strongly advise you do as your list is your goldmine)

You're also going to need to be able to compress you ebook so it's deliverable. I can only vouch for adobe as I haven't used any others. This will compress your ebook down and make it deliverable as a pdf document. Adobe can be pricey but they let you do the first few document free so it'll help with cash flow.

Just to be clear, I'm not promoting any of these products simply stating what I personally use. Look around at what's available and make your own decision.

    Hope this has helped you,

    Nicola

If you use an autoresponder service like GetResponse or Aweber they'll have full instructions on their site.

      1. Go with an autoresponder service or install your own autoresponder.

      2. Set up a web site with subscription page on it. (Like a landing page)

      3. Offer free ebooks on that page. Publish your private policy.

      4. Use double opt-in to get email addresses.

      5. Fill your autoresponder with message(s) with links to your free ebooks.

Once the subscriber subscribes > confirms his email > the autoresponder sends the message to him with ebook links.

You can follow up them or send broadcasts in future.

      Good luck!

The subject matter of your blog is rather surprising given you seem to not even know about auto-responders - a fundamental tool for IMers. You are choosing a very competitive market to enter, without it seems, not much to offer.

Is there something else you have in terms of life skills that you think you might be able to help - I mean really help - somebody else? You may find the online marketing strategies much easier to come by when you are offering something that you believe in while your traffic will be more apt to find you genuinely helpful, and thus willing to sign up for your email responders.

Agreed: One of the things I usually tell my clients is to start off by choosing a niche they're comfortable with (or know something about).

The fact that you have a blog is great - but you also need a squeeze/opt-in page.

Set up your auto-responder (with help from aweber)
then get your squeeze page made. It doesnt just have to offer a free e-book..you could offer a "7 part e-course" or an audio download.. or something.

I dont recommend doing double opt in (but that's up to you)
I DO recommend pre-loading your auto-responder with at least 5-10 followup messages

When you've set up your squeeze page, as described above, you could try article marketing to drive traffic, or if you're looking to do this a bit quicker use PPC.

Don't give them something to download. Get them on your list by getting them signed up for an eCourse delivered by email. This would also help with subscriber retention. You could also offer subscriber discounted products and services. For example if you sell an ebook for $17 on your website... offer the list members a discount and sell it for $7. This provides another incentive to both signup and to remain on the list.

    Hey jjpmarketing,

How do you handle the discount portion for members? Do you just give them a discount code in the email or something?

    thanks...

Well it depends on how you process payments. If you just using PayPal... then create a password protected order page. But ideally it would be better if you used something like Sam Stephen's DLGuard software in which you can add coupon codes to be entered on an order page... but really all you need to do is create differnet order pages.

What is really the harm in someone else finding that page? If they order... then that is just more money in your pocket from someone that might not have ordered at the higher price.
