How to fix this email list I have?

Recently i built an email list of about 150 emails in the trading niche. I was giving an ebook of how to trade in return for their email. I had a email sequence for 1 week with great information and also promotions for some clickbank products. Everyday about 5-10 new people subscribe to my email list when i run the campaign. But I had to pause the campaign because I saw that my open rates for my emails sent after the first day are really poor not to mention the click through rates on my links inside the email. I tried changing the subject lines but it din't make much of a difference.

What can i do to increase my email open rates?
Any other advice regarding this email list will be very helpful.

Maybe you should create better subject lines. People won't open their emails if they think they are being spammed or are going to be sold to. Subject lines are almost more important than the email copy itself, so I would take some time to make them great.

Then make sure you are giving them valuable content in the email itself so that they'll want to read your next one and so on. Hope that helps some.

i tried changing the subject lines, even tried changing the the email copy itself. I am promoting the clickbank products in only two of my emails during the week, rest is all good content. I have gotten this low open rates for the first time. But thanks for the advice still.

Subject are one way to increase open rates but actually whether someone opens your emails or not starts before you even send the first email.

When they opt in it needs to be super clear to them what they are opting in for. They need to know they will receive emails 'X' amount of times per week, what those emails will contain and when to expect them...and you need to stick to what you've promised them.

If they gave their email addy to you thinking it was just to be sent a download link for an ebook but you don't mention you'll be sending them further emails chances are they won't expect them and then won't read them either. They'll be deleted or marked as spam as they didn't sign up for them.

Set their expectations and stick to them. Don't email them anything they didn't ask for or don't expect.

Hi Kenny, the things that significantly affect responsiveness relate almost entirely to issues arising before, while and immediately after people subscribe. I think this thread may help you: What are the essential things to know about list building?

    It's all about continuity-processes and expectation-setting.

It's true that minor, later details (such as email subject-lines) can sometimes make some difference, but in general it's far, far easier to give birth than it is to raise the dead, and I think what really matters, taking the long-term view (which is the only one that matters much), is to have a very different continuity-process in place for your next few hundred subscribers from the one used for your current subscribers - as explained in the thread mentioned above.

Other little threads that may by helpful to you, for the "bigger picture" ...

Where to get reports to give away on opt in page? <---- did the "How To Trade" e-book you gave away really serve all the purposes mentioned in this post? If not, I suspect this may have been the cause of the problem, here?

Are you using single or double opt in? If you're driving traffic to a squeeze page and it's only single opt in, there is a possibility that they don't know who you are and therefore not opening your emails. Just a thought.

You might want to try to create your own product related to trading and position yourself as an expert in the niche. This will help you develop credibility, and you will have a much higher chance of getting sales from selling your own products. If you are good at trading, you will have plenty of advice to give. The ClickBank products may be ruining your sales funnel. In general, people trust product recommendations from others that they consider experts in a particular field.

As far as open rates go, that will depend on the traffic and where it is coming from. Not all traffic sources are created equal, and some are better than others.

A good idea is to survey your list to find out what they are interested in and what they want to learn about. This will help you be able to create the necessary product that will suit their needs when it comes to trading.

How is your free gift? Quality? Valuable?

If you promise them something else then you really supply I think that can really affect your open rates in later e-mails

How is your content in your first e-mail?
It is in the first mail the relationshipbuilding really start. If you fail to build a relationship with your subscribers in your first e-mail,your whole e-mail campaign can be destroyed from that.

    Remember:Trust is something you earn.

Short punchy subject lines work best like: this is important or please open, etc.

It baffles me why so many people imagine that the subject-line is the primary determinant of the open-rate. It just isn't.

If I get an email today from someone from whom I'm expecting and have been awaiting an email, and I already respond favorably to that persons's name and know that they're always good, helpful, useful emails for me, I'm going to open it regardless of the subject line. And so are other people.

To achieve and to maintain high open rates, you need to start with the specific objective of becoming one of the people whose emails your subscribers will open whatever the subject line says. And everything you do before, while and immediately after people opt-in needs to revolve around that objective. Otherwise it's too late.

Who the email is from is the primary determinant of the open-rate. (Hence the relevance of what's explained in post #5 above.)

Agreed. People opening your emails is much more than enticing headlines you need to have them sold on you and your content before they even opt in, they need to know what to expect and when to expect it and many other factors BUT headlines are still an important part.

If someone is busy and they see they have an email from you and need to decide whether to open it or delete it / read it later a good headline that entices them to take action is going to win over a boring one....they'll just skip over that.

What traffic source did you use to build your list? Each traffic source is different so you may want to try a different source and see how it performs. Also, check out the book cashvertisting, you will learn a lot of tips on how to write effective subject titles and body.

What's more important than the subject line is the from whom the email is coming from.

Are your emails actually getting delivered to the inbox 'cause sometimes they can end up in your Spambox which can dramatically lower your "open rate"?

Best thing to do would be to check your deliverability. Then next thing you should do is after you mail out your free gift re-mail it to everyone who didn't open the email.

yea this is what I'm doing also I re email all that did not open my email.
You could also offer a small course for free instead of an simple eBook so if they subscribe for the course they will expect your email and will open it for sure and if the course is from good quality they will open any email from you there after or even after 2 course sequences where you can promote something,
You can also add a promotion at the end of your body as a personal suggestion.
