Am I tracking correctly? Hmm...

Hey all,

So, I am building up my email list and ensuring that I am tracking everything correctly.

ClickBank: I track the specific product I have in my first follow-up email. This allows me to know when people buy that product from that email/campaign and who bought it.

AWeber: Through AWeber I can see who/how many people clicked on the email, and who/how many people clicked on link (product or other link) inside the email there have been.

Google Analytics: I have it set up where each ad I am promoting has a custom URL for that ad and it will show it in my Google Analytics.

So, with all that being said, is there ANYTHING else I should track?

With all this I can tell:
  1. what ad is working the best
  2. when someone opens an email
  3. when someone clicks my product link in the email
  4. when someone buys the product in the email.
Am I missing anything?

Also, I have a video on my squeeze page. Anyway I can track this? I've been searching the forum for this stuff, but haven't been able to come across anything that was what I needed.

Thanks,
DJ Whrr

  • I dont think you need to track anything else, although have you thought of using Craigslist, if you place an ad there then that will benefit you plus drive alot of traffic to your site, and the method to track it is by using craigslist tracker.

BTW I am an affiliate of a program that literally earns you 100% commissions per month and all you need to do is follow a three step system, it really works, if you are interested PM me we can talk further on the subject.

    • Thanks I'll look into this. Any good articles on the subject? Or any good pointers that you can help me with?

Yeah, definitely going to be doing some A/B testing on this. I'm taking it in steps though first. I'm definitely going to be using video on this squeeze page - I hear that video really helps out with conversion.

What are your thoughts on tracking video? I don't know of a good way to do this. I have been searching around, but most of the services are paid... I'll have my videos auto play first (planning on A/B testing between play/non-play at start) so we'll see how this goes... What are your thoughts?

      Thanks!

  • The only other thing I could think of is doing an a/b split test.

Google Content Experiments inside of Google Analytics will allow you to do this fairly easily when you follow the instructions.

This will allow you to make 2 pages and test 2 different videos or maybe a video versus a text landing page.

    Hope this helps!
  • Split testing different email headings, content, link types, calls to action and so on can give you some good insights into what gets people to open / click / take action / buy which is important.

Aweber allows you to do sales tracking so set that up and you'll know which email the sale came from.

Add tracking ID's to Clickbank links when generating the hop link inside Clickbank so you can give each link a different ID and know which email / website page it's coming from.

You seem to be on the right track. Most people don't bother to do any of this when testing and tracking is one of the most important things you can do if you want to figure out what you're doing right and what you're doing wrong. It's hard to replicate your success if you don't know why you're being successful and it's hard to do the opposite of what's failing if you don't know what parts failed.
  • There's no point in saying you'll 'definitely' do 'XYZ' because you HEARD something. You'll need to test it out yourself to find out as it's different for every site / niche.

Run a split test between video and text and see what comes out best.

    • Good point. However, I have read some case studies on how video is usually better for squeeze pages, but good point. It's all subjective.

So, about that tracking video question...

  • Oh, I see what you're saying. I was confused. I didn't know I could use a/b testing to do autoplay/no-autoplay and such... what I thought is that you would need another service (I.e., Google Events Tracking) in order to do so. makes sense now. So I can just use something like Google Content Experiments to try a/b test these different features? They have video support? I did some research but couldn't find anything about video support so I am a bit confused. Maybe I would use Google Events Tracking along with Google Content Experiments?

    Thanks!

    • The only stat that really matters with video is visitors vs subscribers in my opinion, which you'll see with these a/b tests. It's not about the video itself, its which video/variation is performing better and bringing you more leads

  • Are you driving traffic outside of PPC?

If so, you should be tracking that.

    • Yeah. I was using forum signatures but I decided that took to much time... plus I wasn't receiving any traffic so I'm not focusing on that as much.

I did what you suggested for that (Google Custom URLs and URL shortener), but it wouldn't show up on my analytics. I don't know why. Maybe the URLs are too long? I didn't see anything about that though. I see a lot of 404 redirect errors in my Analytics... that might be it...
  • Usually if you make good posts on relevant forums you will get lots of targeted traffic. Forums are some of my best sources of traffic in terms of volumes and conversions. You need to make your signature click entice able to click and your posts give a lot of value.

    • Thanks RockingLastsForever. My problem is I have found that many DJ forums are not very tolerant of advertising in your forums... I don't know why, but they are afraid of the "spamming" associated with it...

Also, many of them make you take a long time in order to have rights to show your signature. (I've also experience this problem with WF...)

  • Pretty sure with WF you can display your signature straight away. Advertising a DJing site on WF obviously isn't going to get you much traffic though.

    • Funny thing is a was receiving a decent amount of traffic from WF. IDK where it's coming from (I think it's in a post where I put the name of my website), but pretty good traffic! :p
