I have myself a dilemma.

Being a newb at business, having no formal qualifications in any business area, I am feeling daunted by the ammount of work I need to do to get things rolling and getting them first sales.

My website is up and running, and is currently going through and SEO overhaul, I have set up a basic adwords campaign which has drawn traffic to the site but has not converted to sales yet.

So, what is the next step, what am I missing from the equation, the adwords is linking to my home page, I don't have a squeeze page and don't know what the benefits of having when is in relations to the site I have.

I find offline marketing too time consuming especially while I also am working a full time job as well.

I got so much to learn.

You say you don`t have a squeezepage, which is fine.
Do you have an autoresponder? If you don`t ,I would start with that.
Then offer a valuable free download in exchange for their e-mail adress.

Do your page look appealing ?
I`m talking from a consumers point of view here. I,myself are really interested in fitness and weightlifting. I see so many fitnessites that look just the same. Boring and not appealing at all. You really need to see it from a consumers point of view. What do your visitors feel when they see your webpage for the first time?

How is your content? Do you have quality content?
Remember. Your content is preselling. Think of it. Would you buy a new car from a person that didn`t know what he was talking about?...

Ofcourse traffic building is very essential. But you can drive all the people in the world to your webpage, but if they don`t like what they see, they will instantly click back and move on to the next webpage, and you will lose sales.

P.S:I`m not claiming your website is shite or anything like that, but some people tend to think they need to drive more traffic to their website, when what they really need is a BIG "facelift" on their website. Your site might look profesional and have kick ass content and all you need is more visitors.

    Stay focused.

If you are working with Adwords right now, start testing other keywords, ad placements, timing, etc.

If after all of this you still aren't converting, so have a 'content' issue. Start tweaking your content to try and close some deals.

This right here ought to take you the rest of the month, but I wouldn't move on to the next shiny object.

Take your lumps, tweak what you already have and continue to learn. You WILL see results if you stick with it and don't give up on yourself. I am absolute proof of this.

    Good luck maing.

This is money right here. Don't fall in the shiny object syndrome, and just focus on your first conversion.

Offline marketing is very time consuming yes, but so are most business' in the internet marketing arena. If you have a full time job, be prepared to work after your 9-5 and weekends if you really want to be successful. It's not easy, but if it was, wouldn't everyone be doing it?

Try writing a report on your niche and giving it away for free from your site.
Also create an e-book of around 20 pages, add your squeeze page link inside it and spread it around. Get your name out there. Follow up with your subscribers with weekly emails.

I won't go to adwords if I haven't tested my page's conversion rate yet.

I agree, you should have your autoresponder first. Whatever your niche, is very wise to have your list, hence the squeeze page.

    Here's the general steps:
Have something to offer -> have a squeeze page to offer (which is to build your list)-> build relationship with them and market your product to them.

There, you have a solid online business.

Mrnace, can you tell us more about what your website is about. It's quite difficult to provide recommendations when we don't have enough information.
What is it about? What's your target audience? How about your niche?
    Is this affiliate marketing?

I would recommend hiring an SEO expert or company so they can look into your website and provide recommendations. If you are not prepared to invest on SEO yet then I suggest reading blogs or other sites that have free information on how to build websites.

What I recommend you do is break up your responsibilities into little pieces. A whole cake looks daunting, but if you take at it 1 slice at a time, you'll find it is easier to deal with than tackling the whole thing at once.

Great.......So you are running adwords and are getting more and more traffic each day. That does not guarantee you success. What are you even promoting on your website?

I don't know what you are and really the best advice I can give you is this:

If you are going into affiliate marketing then I would learn a little bit about it.

There is a book on the market called:

How I made my first million online and how you can too by Ewen Chia. Get that book and read it. You can get in on Amazon.com and it is a physical book.

Okay, so, from the advice I am getting on here I have devised a list -

1/ Create a Squeeze page/autoresponder offering something for free in return for email and other details.

2/Create great, engaging website content that the customer will become engaged with and want to know more about and eventually want to buy the product. (I have currently got a SEO expert working through my onpage issues and will rewrite a lot of the content I have on the site, which will hopefully make it more engaging)

3/Create ongoing content and customer engagement through social media and blogging.

4/Play around with Adwords until I find a set up that works best.

    anything else?

And by the way, the website I have is a software development website, mainly focusing on mobile apps.
