Found a niche, no affiliate products

The gist of it is I found a niche that I enjoy and found there to be a little competition. Google keyword tool has an exact match total of almost 15k monthly local searches.

I feel it wouldn't take long to become an authority site on the subject but can't seem to find any affiliate products to sell either on the site or through a list from the site.

What would you do? Adsense? Sell banners? Try to sell semi related products?

Thanks

Exactly. A real business is always making your own product, be it, physical or electronic or a mixture of both now with 3-d printing

      Nothing against affiliates BTW.

^^^best advice Try to create a product after you do some research. Find a need and create a product to solve it. You can even consider outsourcing the product creation if you have the means.

    Good luck

Is there money in the niche? Are there ads for the search? What are the products they are selling? Are they information products or physical products? Are there books on Amazon about the subject? What are the top 10 sites in Google? Are they selling products? What products are they selling? Are they physical or information products?

Is it 15,000 EXACT local searches?

Are there any forums, blogs or other 'hubs' in the niche i.e. facebook groups or anything?

Anything on sale on Amazon? Do the products appear to sell well? i.e. do they have lots of reviews?

If there's no competition and nothing to sell it's possible that it's because there's no demand for it or the search volumes are incorrect or misleading.

I sometimes stumble across niches that seem to have good search volume and demand and no competition and wonder why no one is monetizing this niche but usually I realise later after a bit of research there's not as much demand as I thought.

If there's genuinely nothing on sales definitely people looking for information and there's a problem to be solved then you could create your own info product to sell but do proper research first to make sure this really is a viable niche and there's not a reason why people aren't already competing in it....competition is usually a good sign as it means there's money to be made.

And what about the answers to the other questions?

Please tell me you aren't basing this all on search volumes. I can give you thousands of keywords that have huge search volumes but are essentially useless as they aren't niches / phrases that can be monetized.

Are there other blogs? Forums? Fan pages?

Products for sale on Amazon? Clickbank? Commission Junction?

        Ads on Google?

Is it a brand new niche or been around a while?

Is there a problem in the niche that needs solved?

Do you have the solution to the problem?

I started a website a couple years ago with 96k [exact match]... I was getting 700 U/V a day and could not monetize it, not even with adsense:confused:

Everything I've ever done online, all of it, product creation has been the most profitable. If you have a niche with a need, and you can help solve it with a product, you're in good shape

First you need to confirm if there is money in that niche.

How many Google Adword ads appear for your main KW? What is cpc for the advertisers?
What is sold by these advertisers and the 10 top organic SERP sites?

If there is money go for it. Find out what your niche wants and give it to them by creating your own product.

No related products at all? Nothing in eBay or Amazon?

Is there expertise where you could sell a guide to others just getting their feet wet?

Have you looked at the history of the Warrior Forum? It started out as a subscription. Then it was free. Years later the WSO section was added. Now look at it. But it started out essentially free, with a membership payment that also got you access to a private War Room (not the same War Room today) with information, documents, scripts, etc.

If it is something you enjoy, and others enjoy, then a subscription site to post on a forum or creating your own guide other members can purchase seem like initial options.

Are there related products? For instance, one niche I just sent some buyers of one of my WSOs involved an art and craft. The craft itself does not have a lot of affiliate products. Books. But the tools that are used can be found on eBay, Amazon, and elsewhere, thus creating affiliate opportunities.

I would look at the first few pages of results for that keyword in question, each site one by one, and find out if those sites seem to have 'solved' the problem a potential searcher might have.

Start looking into your own product and make it better than what entire first page has to offer and you will be on to something.

And don't think for one second you can't create a better product than what is the collective first page results. Just use your head, be creative and you will be in business.

I would test the niche to see if it's responsive. Run a quick ad, send them to a squeeze page and see if they buy into your free offer. If they do, and they do so in bunches.... immediately create a product for this niche.

If most dont subscribe, and the conversion rate sucks... pick a different niche.

  • Profile picture of the author Stuart Walker
Yeah as Randall says run a quick test on it first before deciding to jump in head first. Set up a site with a couple of pages / articles and / or an opt in form, run some targeted traffic at it, see how responsive they are and if they're willing to buy and you'll know before you go spend lots of time and money on it.

It sounds like this is only based on one keyword, which is just 1/2 of 1% of the kind of niche research you should be doing.

Bear in mind that there are plenty of private affiliate programs that aren't all that easy to find. One way to find them is affiliate directories, but I prefer to do indepth keyword research and then search the SEs for people who show up on the first page.

I focus on buyer keywords and look for people who are NOT affiliates but the actual product creators, manufacturers, etc. and then I contact them to see if they have an affiliate program.

Personally, though, I don't get involved in a niche unless I see some advertising, some competition, and plenty of products / services to promote. My own personal bias is that all these other competitors have done most of the research for me and I'm able to study them and find ways to reach their target audience better than they do.

whats the CPC on google? it must be very low. you should pick "buyer's keywords" if you are trying to sell something. if its just information then probably go with adsense

Definitely make sure that people are really interested in spending money in this niche, and then you can create a product.

Gauge interest on forums, other blogs, other sites, etc.

    create your own product.

    but first...

    collect opt-ins

set up a good sequence with solid free info

then ask them what is their number one problem or hindrance in 'said' niche

create your product around their problems

the answer to this is simple, it's a sucky niche. The first thing I look for is a ton of competition, that's how you know the niche is good... then it just comes down to god marketing.
