Email Marketing Question

Hey all,

I have a service that I provide to a particular niche. I have a small customer base that I secured through LinkedIn, but I am really wanting to grow this base.

In searching ODesk, I have found some vendors on there that specialize in all of the steps of email marketing, from finding the email addresses, to making a list, and then emailing them. Many of these have logged thousands of hours, and have consistently good reputations.

I have spoken to my attorney regarding how to be CAN-Spam compliant (at least, based on our last conversation six months ago.) Basically, if the email is to be repeated, we simply have to have an opt-out ability and give our contact information.

That being said, what are some ways that I can do this safely, legally, and effectively? I have "capped" my monthly service at 500 subscribers, but there are nearly 90,000 practioners in this niche in the United States.

Am I on the right track? Do I just need to get a copywriter to look over my "hook" and then start trying to direct people to my site?

Thanks,

Jeremy James

So you are scraping email addresses? And what service are you using where you capped out at 500 subscribers?

Sorry, I provide a marketing service - a newsletter, and for scarcity's sake, I was only going to offer it to 500 customers.

    Hi James,

Why don't you try to create your own landing page, drive traffic to the landing page and build your own list of subscribers. By doing that, you do not have to worry about the legal issue as you building a list of subscribers who wants to get more information from you.

I will instead focus my time where to find my potential customers

I don't think my niche is looking for this product.

I don't think that you should ever take emails addresses and then add them to your list without them knowing about it or getting their permission.

You best bet is to create your own opt in page and then collect emails from there. Then you will need to learn how to market your opt in page to those you are targeting and when they opt into your list, you can offer them what ever you want to.

The one thing that your lawyer was right about, and I am no lawyer, that you have to create an OPT OUT link at the bottom of every email that you will ever sent out to them. You need to give your subscribers the option to take themselves off your list at anytime they choose too.

If you don't do your research on whether this could be profitable then you will never know that.

    Jeremy,

To be honest with you there are always people looking for anyone thing on the internet or offline, you just need to position yourself in front of these people. I think the best way is to create a Optin page with a catchy enticing headline and some info about what you have to offer you subscribers. The reason why this is best is because they are giving you permission to send them emails by Optin into your lead capture form. The subscribers who give your their email info are interested in your services which makes them targeted subscribers.

So what makes you think they are going to buy it then? If there's not a problem it doesn't need fixed.

truly right, get your squeeze page, offer free ebooks or video tutorials for free after they opt-in to your list. this is the nice and easy way, no worries of any legal stuff.
