Price structure and upselling

I just wanted to ask the forum on their opinion on pricing structure specifically for membership sites.

I have 4 member levels ranging from free to $39/month, but thinking about trying to upsell from lower cost levels. Is it fair/usual practice to offer the high tiers at a lower price? or is that a bad move? I'm just curious how orignal higher paying members would feel about this.

What do you guys usually do? How do you handle this.

I've searched the forum but didn't find anything specifically that would answer this.

Thanks for any input.

You could ask the same question about any discount or special offer:

Will the people who paid full price be upset that others are buying it on sale?

    And the answer:

Not enough of them to make your business less profitable (instead of more) overall as a result of such promotions.

Why not recruit affiliates to promote your membership site and promote the highest priced level first and down sell to the lowest paid. Or, offer a $1 trial that will automatically upsell to your highest price level.

I would try other strategies before lowering your prices.

Pricing is marketing. Why not try a different approach. Charge higher. $47, $67, $77 or even $97/mo.

Thanks for the thoughts folks, I know when I decide to buy a lower price item and the seller tries to upsell with a cheaper price for the premium product it annoys me - why not just offer it at that price in the first place, I KNOW from a marketing perspective why they do it, but personally as a buyer I don't like it. Just wondered your thoughts, guess I really do over think things.
