domain with keywords or brand

Hi... just to share my experience:

I had a MyBrandname.com domain for some years with 500 visitors a day.
I created over the last months.. Facebook account, tublr, pinterest, link backs... same thing... 500 visitors a day no matter what.
On Sunday I moved to a new domain.
My 2 word keyword + 1 generic word .com
yesterday, I got 800 unique visitors and seems increasing over the time.... day after day...

That's something that does not make sense since the content is the same but it seems to work.

Where is your traffic coming from... search engines?

Are the rankings for the new domain the same as the rankings for the old domain?

Was the old domain penalized? << possible reason for the jump in traffic

  • Okynet,

It may be tempting to believe that moving to the EMD caused your traffic to increase however a correlation isn’t necessarily causation. You said there were some other activities that you were engaged in before the switch. How can you be sure that it wasn’t some of those activities that caused the boost? Were you tracking and controlling all other factors that could have caused the bump in traffic? That’s great that you are having some success however you can’t really say its from the EMD unless you have collected much more data on your site and things you were doing to it over a specified time period.

    Best,

    Shawn
