Hey Warriors,

I decided to jump into the Internet marketing mix about two months ago in a niche that NO ONE is doing... wait for it... wedding planning. I am a videographer and entrepreneur by heart. My main income comes from filming and editing weddings. I have been sick of the service based business model and wanted to sell products. Needless to say I am not an inventor. So, I figured I'd try info products in my unique niche and try Internet marketing.

I took on a partner (wedding planner) who handles content creation, and I do the website stuff (wordpress, SEO, sales page copy, etc) and the marketing. Here are the the steps we have taken so far and money we have spent. I am hoping to shed some light on anyone interested in getting started. FACT: It's been more time consuming (and more expensive) than I imagined and I don't even create the content and haven't purchased any advertising yet (FB or Adwords).

Start Up Expenses:
Filing LLC (used legal zoom was $99 plus NJ state fees and $50 fee for them to file EIN #): $352.95
Domain Name (from godaddy): $13
Hosting (per year thru godaddy): $108
Wordpress Template (studio press): $75
Logo (LogoSauce.com - offers competitions and you can get an AMAZING professional logo to choose from for 20% of what it would cost a designer): $275
Email Marketing (aweber up to 2500 names): $269 pre-paid the year otherwise would be $30/month
DAP (membership plugin/shopping cart): $167
Instabuilder (sales page/landing page creator plugin): $47
PO Box $64/yr
Graphic River (templates for some graphics including a template to create my first free report and another action in photoshop to create ebook mock up design): $29
• Powtoon (online program to create artistic landing page videos, promotional videos, etc): $269 (if paid the year in full)

Total Spent: just over $1,500

Here is some of the visuals I created so you can see:

I know this is a lot. I hope it helps someone and feel free to ask any questions. It's been a jam packed two months and little things you wouldn't think like creating a nice looking opt-in box can take hours upon hours. Formatting creating your auto responders and newsletters. TIME CONSUMING. but once its done, its done!!

Hope this helps and feel free to ask any questions. I am a pro now. I have some steady traffic coming in (not a lot by any means but marketing efforts are compounding daily so its a slow process) and as my title says we have our FIRST subscriber to our list.

I'd be certainly be willing to accept feedback as well from the experienced Internet marketers making six figures or more. That's our goal as a minimum and we aren't too proud to listen to the experts. Fire away questions, critiques, or criticisms.

Wow! You're very organized and that's great! If you can manage to do that regularly and consistently, you can earn a massive success some time in the future, which is just around the corner.

You can outsource those tasks little by little so that those tasks can still be finished, while you're also able to expand more.

This reminds me when I first started out - making some doe online that is and jesus... It's one of the most overwhelming things you can ever embark in life as you're pretty much on your own with most of it.

Good luck anyway mate. By the looks of it, you'll figure out pretty quickly as you seem pretty organised.

I just hope you have done thorough enough research of this niche before you go to the lengths of creating so many products.

If you haven't yet even got a decent sized email list then at best you are simply guessing what people want and that's never going to work. The idea is to build a list and a community and let them tell you what problems they have and what products they need. If you just create what you THINK they might want or need then it will never be as powerful.

I've also heard people say "a niche no one is doing" several times and that can often be your downfall. When I research a niche I look for those with competition. Competition is a GOOD sign. First of all it proves that there are already people making money in this niche. If you have come across a niche no one else is doing it's more likely people have tried to monetize it in the past and were not successful at doing so rather than the likelihood no one has discovered the niche before. So again make sure you have done thorough research on this.

Second of all competition allows you to better position yourself. Being the only person in a niche isn't as effective as being one of the best (out of many) in a niche.

Anyway, just some ideas for you to think about.

I guess I just really cannot see brides paying to be part of a membership site or watching webinars. It just doesn't fit for me. A wedding is such an important and personal experience that I think most people do this stuff offline.

Will, you make great points. There are many wedding planning websites but their focus is to see advertising. That is the status quo. We are bucking that turned instead of courting visitors to click ads and sell advertising to local vendors, we are going to sell to the brides.

We did do extensive research as to the needs of the bride and have catered all products to that research. If it for some reason it doesn't work as you suggest, I guess we could convert to the traditional methods of selling advertising.

We are producing great content, and so we should grow our visitors and email lists daily. If we don't sell any products, then we start selling ads. LOL

Thanks for taking the time to respond.

You can turn this into a short report, in office org. Even if it is a 3-4 page one by adding more to if it you need.

People can benefit from this strategy in other niches.

After turning it into a short report, what do I do with it? I'm not an expert as I am not making any money yet so I would feel awkward selling it. You think I should clean it up, refine it, and give it away? That's sort of what I just did here tho. Information for the taking. LOL. Thanks!!

This is such a well done post. I think that reading the OP can help anyone starting an internet business. It shows that you have thought out your business really well and are very organized. Having a plan and sticking to it is always the best way to succeed in anything.

All new internet marketers should take notice of this thread and see how a basic action plan for an internet business should look. Well done!

This is great, you are right on in the keyword. But like WillR has mentioned, competition is key. Just keep on reviewing and seeing what is working for you. I'm sure you'll get good returns on this.

I admire your determination and organization. Seems like you have a plan and intend to stick to it. Good !

Hopefully later you can start outsourcing some of those tasks (like Yahoo answers, posting your notes on Facebook, article submission, etc.) to people on Fiverr or other places.

I might also suggest using ArticlesBase dot com and submitting your articles to some good Web 2.0 sites like Weebly, LiveJournal, Typepad, Tumblr, Wetpaint, etc. for some good backlinks (probably higher quality backlinks than most of those article directories you listed).

Also, post a few ads on Backpage and leave a backlink to your articles or your Facebook notes. Most people neglect using classified ads to get backlinks.

    Best of luck !

Why would it be more beneficial to backlink to the Facebook note or article rather than directly to my website or to a landing page? I would love to understand this strategy. Thanks!!

Because it is also important to have backlinks to your backlinks (not having all your backlinks going directly to your website).

And, many times I have seen Facebook notes or Fanpages (and Pinterest and Tumblr posts) on the first page of SERPs, for the keywords being targeted, as they can be easier to rank than a website (due to the power that Facebook, Pinterest, Tumblr, already has, so it makes sense to leverage that power).

An earlier comment mentioned China. Here is the link to an article in today's edition of China Daily that talks about US Wedding Planners being in demand. Hope it is helpful.

Wow - well done on your obviously well planned and organised endeavours. I will be using it has guide for a similar, but different niche, project. So keep us updated!
I've been researching on membership site programmes/plugins and ask why you choose DAP (which is high on my list)? Was it easy to implement and get started? Any regrets on your choice? Initial problems or was it a breeze? I'd welcome your opinion - Thanks
Finally I like your website - fresh & clean layout - uncluttered without banners, etc.
Thanks for helping me on my learning curve! Brian

DAP seemed the most versatile and easy to implement. I am still learning and have not accepted a payment yet as I mentioned I am still in the list building traffic building phase. I'll will update you on DAP as I learn more about it.

That's a sound strategy. Don't forget to look into JV partners that compliment your offer and once your funnel is complete get some paid ads going.
