Why is the adult industry so profitable?

the other day i was discussing with my friend about new business ideas and he threw as a joke "why not enter adult business"?
I know it is a billion dollar industry and obviously that's definitely something I would never do but it kind of got me thinking: why it it still so profitable? I mean nowadays people can find anything for free so why in the world would someone pay for that??

Warriors will have a hard time answering this.

There is a huge demand for it, and i suppose it is like saying why do people purchase ebooks when you can get information on the internet for free?

Because there's a lot you CAN'T get for free in the adult industry online...

As just one example, there is a HUGE demand for cam girls (and guys) who do live shows, and acting as an affiliate for these cam websites can be very lucrative. CPA offers for sign-ups to these sites can also be incredibly profitable.

People love to ... hmm.. I'm stumped.

Back to the point. Camming is an extremely lucrative area of the sex industry. If you ever go to the top stream on a website, you'll be amazed at the amount of money people drop on these women/men.

Speaking of men, there are a lot that are making a killing by simply "playing with yourself".

Never get surprised by this phenomen. Sex.com is on record as one of the most expensive domains ever sold. The market size is unbelievably huge.It doesn't take special skills to be sexually active. The pull is natural and basic while the fascination will be around forever. Lastly and most important is the EMOTIONAL POWER CONNECTED.Marketers should know this better than anyone else including psychologists.

There's a ton you can't get for free and some will pay for what they see as pleasure. Personally, I don't support the industry, but that's just me.

A big part of why people buy things they can get for free elsewhere, they don't know it's available for free. Another part of it, many believe if they pay for something it has to be better than something for free. Finally, many people pay for things because they are too lazy to dig up the information on their own.

The adult industry is a different story, but this industry is also full of incredible marketers selling one of the most popular products in the world.

We all know that you can get it for free on certain websites...but NOT EVERYONE knows that. I used to download and stream movies, and it would amaze me how many people didn't know how to do it at all, even people younger and should be more savvy than I. People just bought DVDs. You can even see this in the IM industry. Plus, people aren't thinking straight when they're in the mood for a wank lol. WHEN NFC STREAMLINES ONLINE BUYS, this is probably going to look good for adult transactions...buyers remorse will be through the roof.

The industry may be profitable overall, but is the profit for each site owner good, or is it just that there are so many millions of sites each making tiny profits that when combined paint a rosy picture?

There are many reasons. Some are---
        1. Adult industry has a great number of non-adult (immature) client who are enthusiastic for the product and they buy it for better and better quality with higher prices.
        2. Social bonds are getting weak day by day, so people feeling needs to access adult content for psychological pleasure.
        3. Lack of moral knowledge and natural intention to access forbidden content is another reason.

People are hard-wired (there's that word again) to continue the species, and that requires another human.

I don't know if it's the same for girls, but when I was coming of age (dammit, I promise I'm not doing this on purpose), there was a progression most of us followed.

        > Pictures (think Playboy under the mattress)
        > Porn movies
        > Strip clubs
        > Lap dances
        > The real thing

Live camming is one way to approximate that human interaction without worrying about a trip to the clinic or worse.

Profitable? The times of making tons of easy money are long gone and many of the content producers in adult and the adult webmasters are hurting more than anybody else. Try selling pr0n when there are gazillion tubes giving them out for free, try selling adult content in times, when everybody is simply "borrowing it" and calling it "user submitted." True, there are cam sites, but even those aren't that easy to sell anymore

It's hard to say anything on this without someone looking at you strange but...

Maybe some folk are into stuff they want zero trace of on their computers at home or at work and would rather buy a DVD than download stuff online. Just something I heard... honest.

And as for free versus paid on the internet Brad Gosse had a really interesting video on YouTube where he was doing a seminar for guys in the porn industry and talking about various free sites. What they did well (... to warrant payment for) and what they were doing badly.

Just thought... some people have favourite stars too so I guess there is an exclusivity thing too.

I was involved in something similar to this before and I was told the majority of the income comes from advertising.

Since most of the free sites are owned by the paid sites, they use them to advertise their memberships by offering video trailers and discounted membership, however I was told that the majority of the income comes from selling advertising space.

Another bread maker was the malware distribution - get free access to certain premium pay sites for installing their toolbar, then serving pop under ads.

You know, you've all seen the "increase you ahem manhood by X inches" the pills, the endorsements by Ron Jeremy and so on..

I actually used to know a guy that was banking hard with the CPA offers, 6 figure weeks from placing CPA ads on his site.

Then there are the cam site affiliate programs that all the free sites leverage.

This tied in with the fact that all the content is owned by a few select groups = big profits

It's hard these days to get your foot in the door due to the stablished big name "household known" sites, and if you do become successful, they do their best to buy you out or buy the rights to your content so in essenace you'd be working for them, and they would monetize effectively.

10 reasons off the top of my head why people still buy porn:

    1. They see a 'girl, guy, tranny' they HAVE TO watch get xxxxxxxxx.
    2. They want higher quality...consistantly.
    3. They want to know they are getting full video clips and not limted versions.
    4. A lot of adult sites now have communities and forums inside where you can chat with other people who are into the same kink (aka - feel less shameful).
    5. Less distracting ads inside of most members areas...if any ads at all.
    6. No annoying pop ups to cam companies in the background.
    7. Members areas are usually safe and don't have malware trying to get into your computer.
    8. A lot of content producers police their content and DMCA the tubes to have it taken off so it's only available inside their members areas.
    9. If it's a narrow niche some porn can be hard to find on the tubes in decent quality.
    10. Member sites update regularly with fresh content pertaining to the certain niche.

Also take note that people still buy porn which is linked to from a tube site. The tube is a working affiliate sending large amounts of traffic to the member sites who work with the tubes instead of against them.

    Hope that helps.

If sincere media (like google, facebook, twitter etc) does not allow adult content due to moral responsiblities then the availablitity does not reduced but people will concious about the content and carry a theme that "Gentleman/Good boys never access adult contents" which is very necessary for bulding clean and abuse free society.

Warriors were obsessed with the adult industry around 2007. There was even an internet marketer that was popular that made his money in the adult industry named woody maxim. Adult marketers were probably a little ahead of the curve in some regards, but I think the obsession with them faded when most people realized (aside from the initial lessons) the whole space operated differently.

I saw a guy a few days ago asking about a decent affiliate program for penis enlargement. His thread actually inspired me.

In a few weeks I'll be launching a never-before-seen product in the adult niche. I thought to myself, "How cool would it be if I could have been the guy who invented the concept of penis enlargement? How did these guys get a NASCAR blazoned with "Extenze" on the hood?" I wished I could be the first to find a niche within the niche.

Then I remembered a conversation I had with a friend of mine many years back. I did a little internet research and discovered that this "secret" was not being monetized at all, by anyone. I am getting an ebook written right now as we speak. It's a completely original niche within the adult industry. It's not particularly morally offensive. Actually, it could sell to a Christian family looking for family planning options as easily as it could sell to a guy picking up hookers 3 times a week.

If you are into the adult niche and are looking for a product to promote, PM me and I'll respond when I get a little bit closer to launch. I haven't sussed out all the details yet, but it's a work in progress.

According to Online MBA, the porn industry pulls in nearly $5 billion USD per year worldwide. Their ingeniously effective marketing methods can (and perhaps should be) studied religiously.

      Lessons?
Content is king (or queen - depending on which way you swing).
Engage your visitors on a deeply emotional level.
      Build a list of subscribers.
      Track your marketing campaigns.
Typically they will entice visitors with a small fee purchase and get them to subscribe on a recurring billing model.

Porn is hard to break into online, because unless you have a huge budget or are a large, established producer of such content, you don't stand a chance at making it big.

A smarter angle is to cater to adult workers who are independent. For example, escorts who need to place ads online. Escorts who need websites. Cam models who need a platform (though many already exist, making that hard to break out into as well). Custom adult content that people can order from others who are willing to make it.

    Examples:

    extralunchmoney.com
    escortbook.com

It is extremely profitable - and that stinks. For me anyway. When I was first starting out, my very first website was an adult site that I won on eBay for something like $25 (we're talking around 2001 or so). I was so excited to actually own my own site but I never could tell my mom about it. When it flopped, or more like, as it continued to flop, I finally sold it and promised myself that from that point on I would only get involved in online businesses that I would tell my mom about.

But to your question, I think it's profitable because sex always sells. It did from the beginning of time, and will until the end. Free sites or not, people will always be looking for "premium" content just to see what's possible - no different than any other niche.

Pretty much everything you can buy in the WSO forum is available free on the internet. Probably 90% of it is available right here on this site.

Most of the Warriors posting high-quality WSOs have previously posted exactly what they are doing right here on the forum, just in a less-detailed fashion without all the hype and sales copy, before they knew exactly how well it was going to work.

And yet, they still sell plenty of those WSOs. Why do you suppose that is?

I know it is a billion dollar industry and obviously that's definitely something I would never do but it kind of got me thinking: why it it still so profitable? I mean nowadays people can find anything for free so why in the world would someone pay for that??
Free is not as good as paid i guess... Its a perception issue

There's tons of free information online on internet marketing but people still buy WSOs like crazy..

Basically same principle applies for the adult industry
