What's best place for a beginner to start?

I have tried several IM products and techniques, and spent quite a bit of money, but so far *nothing* works, or the products require questionable marketing methods. What would you suggest for a beginning Internet Marketer?

No "thing" works! You MUST work! That is the first "thing" that should be recommended.

You should first learn how to make a "thing" work. Start with small "things" and then rinse and repeat, multiply and go on to bigger "things" that sell for more money.

Best advice I can give you is this.

Log into your jvzoo or Clickbank Account and spend about 4 hours looking at product offers. If it is something you like and would probably buy, then someone else would also.

Make a list of Niche and Products.

Dunno the stuff you've been following but if you've got a "proven plan" on how to reach your goal i.e. a course, ebook etc... Then all you need to do then is to "consistently" apply till you get there.

And you MUST stay laser-focused too. Jumping around from one shiny object to next will delay or even completely destroy your chances of success.

    ...Stay focused.

Have you done research on IM ? have you studied anything in IM ? Most people tend to just jump in and assume they can start selling things and start making money in the internet like its a big "get rich quick" scheme.

IM is no different then offline businesses. You will require the same effort to open a shop and be successful or become a successful internet marketer. But first and most important is to know what the IM world is all about and from trial and error you get experience. This forum is blessed with active members willing to help around the clock and any questions you have will be answered accordingly.

My suggestion , if you are a beginner , is to enroll in a training program (there's loads in the WSO section) and learn everything about IM. Only then you will have the knowledge and relevant mindset to decide what to do , how to do it and the right way to do it . Obviously, you can just find free tutorials around and learn on your own but personally, I prefer to pay and get a whole package from start to finish learning basic and advanced ways to improve your IM experience.

    Best of luck

    Aris

How long have you tried out the methods before you state that nothing work? Consistensy is a huge factor in IM (and to succeed in life in general).

You need to decide what road you want to stay on,soon enough you will reach the highway..

I am new as well and what I am in the process of doing is learning and applying. If you do not have a mentor you most likely will fall on your face 100 times before anything sweet happens. And once you get that hell yeah day, you just might even fall 100 times more. I did, and have been. Go to clickbank or whatever you use and do a search with no keywords, and in the gravity, I personally keep it below 30, however, I hear a lot from some of the more experienced business men/women on here to find products that are higher in gravity and I also hear from the experienced to find products that are lower gravity. I also hear that gravity doesn't really mean squat. The reason I prefer products below 30 is because these products do not have as much competition from the business folks that are better at ranking with tactics like SEO, or that are better at PPC than I am. So in turn, I should have a better chance at success while I'm still learning with the lower competition products. I have also noticed that pretty much everything on clickbank will have a high enough search for any of their keywords needed, you just have to see how much competition is out there for the keywords. I am learning right now, the best way for me, is to use longtail keywords and really target deep into a niche, and when you use the google keyword tool, make sure you click the button on the left side for "EXACT" and not broad or whatever it is. Like I said, I'm still new, I've made a couple hundred bucks far and in between, but it really is a learning process and the most important thing is that you need to treat whatever it is that you got going like a REAL BUSINESS that has YOUR NAME on the front of the building. Take it slow and learn everything one at a time. Like learn how to do SEO first, then move on to learning where to put keywords on your webpage or landing page, and so on, but you really cant be going all over the place. I have recently took into consideration having a plan, a goal of both short term and long term. I'm only two days into it, but I have to tell you, I think I have started putting the correct actions into motion and learned more in the past two days then I have in the last year. My website was on the first page of google last night, however, today its at the #2 spot on the second page, but before my plan I was constantly on 4-5-6 page. I have made this mistake countless times and it has got me no where. Once us newbies learn, I think we will be able to take on whatever product we want, but for now, we need to have an approach that will better our chances. So I think I have rambled long enough, hope this helps you out a little and good luck!!

ising4jesus!! You should focus main idea of your website and should go in one direction. Mutiple ways on the same time can not help you any more. Just focus "what" you are doing and "Why" you are doing.

Make a road map , plan according and go firmly with you idea. I hope you will find the things working what they are not yet.

Clarity is a HUGE part of IM success. I hope this post brings some clarity. It's so simple when you know it -- and darn difficult when you don't! I owe my mentors a world of thanks for bringing this clarity.

IM is actually pretty simple: you can sell only one of two things:

    1. Products
    2. Services

    That's it!

And selling products or services online happens in the same basic way for everyone, no matter what they're selling:

    Traffic > Opt-in page > Autoresponder series (or e-zine) > Sales page

That's it! It's just that simple. (We IMers tend to overcomplicate things.)

But no matter what your niche is, or whether you're selling a product or a service, do you know what your business model is?

A business model is the framework or skeleton of your business. Essentially there are three types of online business models:

    1. Membership-based model

A membership-based business model allows you to build a community of people (your members) who are as passionate about your subject as you are. Your membership fees can be monthly or annual, but either way, you're building recurring, passive income.

There are a lot of resources and information out there to help you build a membership-based business if you're interested in doing this.

    2. Product-based model

Selling products allows you to maximize your time and effort by selling items over and over again. This can be hard goods or it can be information products. Information marketing is it's own business model under the product-based model. Information marketing allows you to take your brain to the bank by creating a product ONCE based on what you know and selling it over and over again.

Affiliate marketing falls under both models. You can choose to market either products or services as an affiliate.

    3. Service-based model

Selling services can be great for 1) generating quick cash (as in the case of article writing or video producing) and 2) establishing your expertise and getting testimonials.

However, in the long run, your goal should be to offer services at a PREMIUM. The biggest advantage of IM is LEVERAGE. You're able to leverage your time, money and expertise exponentially online. We all have just 24 hours each day. Time to get ruthless about what you expect for those hours you spend in IM each day. Expect more of yourself and more from your business friends, clients, partners, etc.

What results are you getting for those hours you spend online each day? Ultimately, your services should be at the bottom of your funnel and cost the most since they involve your time and personal attention. (We all have a limited amount of time each day.)

The fun (and confusion) comes in with all of the endless mix-and-match possibilities of the above models. If you're just starting or still struggling to make money, keep it simple:

    Pick just ONE!

    1. Pick ONE niche. (Something you're interested in and know something about.)

    2. Pick ONE target market for your product or service. (Who will buy what you're offering? The more specific you are, the more you narrow it down, the more successful you'll be.)

    3. Pick ONE business model.

Now that you're clear about what business you're in, FOCUS! (And stop buying any info not related to your niche and target market, period!)

    F -- Follow
    O -- One
    C -- Course
    U -- Until
    S -- Successful

And remember: build a list, Build a List, BUILD A LIST!

In IM, it's easy to put the cart before the horse. Take a deep breath, step back and consider what type of business you REALLY want. Don't worry about getting traffic or buying that expensive traffic product until you know 1) what your business model is, 2) what niche you're in and 3) WHO your target market is!

Successful business people will tell you that MARKETING is more than half the effort that's needed for success anyway. So pick a niche, target market and business model. Then spend most of your time and effort marketing it.

If you DON'T have a solid plan or system, THAT'S when it's hard. A good system will shave YEARS (and save you big $$$) off of your learning curve

That's why I recommend investing in at least one good, comprehensive IM course (or mentor who will give you such a system) instead of jumping from one $37 e-book to the next. A lot of people here complain about not being able to make any money. But neither are they willing to invest in their business. (Buying a random bunch of $37 e-books doesn't count.)

The best thing I ever did was invest in a comprehensive IM course aimed at REAL business owners, not just other IM wannabes. Yes it was $1500. (It's no longer available.) But it was truly some of the best A-Z IM info I ever bought. Everything else I've learned (from the $37 e-books) since has simply been plugged into this system.

Get a solid plan or system and then work the plan!

    Hope this helps!

You said the system you use is no longer available. Are there any courses currently available that you would recommend?

I *do* already have access to some training materials, but many of them are too wide-angle and big-picture, having insufficient detail to really make things work, unless you *already* know what you're doing. Is there a good STEP-BY-STEP business plan and/or IM training course out there that would work well for a beginner?

(In particular, I'm looking for adsense and affiliate marketing info. I already have clickbank and adsense accounts set up. I have web hosting, Wordpress, graphics and many other tools at my disposal.)

      Thanks again for your help!

You shouldn't have to buy any products, simply create a website about something you have an interest in, create unique posts about your subject and place Adsense ads on your site.

Too many people get stuck on buying the "next best thing" and just jump from method to method never making any real money

Discover what you have a passion for, then figure out a way to get to everyone. For example. If you enjoy creating music, find a way to promote yourself and make money doing shows. You can always expand by selling products and merchandise along with your music. Shirts, posters, etc. Let your mind and passion guide you to the wealth.

I think you would benefit from having an IM mentor. Find out why your previous methods were not working and learn from your mistakes.

As others have said, focus on one method and stick to your plan. Organisation and focus is key. Remember to work hard as it is never easy, and do not buy into any get rich quick schemes.

    All the best

When one plan fails, you don't jump to another plan or choose another niche to promote before identifying what caused you to fail. You should focus on one strategy and every time you fail, determine what caused that until you get it right. There's no shortcut here, no ideal niche, no ideal strategy, and definitely no secret formula to earning overnight.

I am new myself, but after a lot of consideration I have chosen micro niche sites as a good place to start for a few reasons. It is just a scalable, simple way to teach yourself the basics of building sites and will give you the chance to experiment with a range of methods to build and optimize a site. Also, because of the lower amount of competition, you will be able to see how your tactics perform more quickly on the smaller scale.

I think it is the perfect place to start, but I am new myself.

I plan on building out a handful of these to get a small income coming in and get my feet wet enough to jump into something like an authority site or affiliate page.

Never ever work on more than ONE program UNTIL you master it and make it work. if you do many programs at once, each of them teaches different methods and you will end up mixing them all which will result in a mesup in your marketing. I personally started with the program in my signature below and continued with it until i was in profit. I have been struggling with "many-programs" distraction for many months before i decided to stick with only one that somehow got me focused and motivated.

If I knew then what I know now then I would have started off building a list with good old fashioned work, Not hard work but smart work. I wouldn't let anyone tell you different either.

Get you an autoresponder account through Aweber or Constant Contact or whomever you prefer. Start building your list, Start learning about product creation and creating your own sales funnels and once you got that down then you drive Targeted traffic to your site and you'll be just fine.

I also know that you said you have tried alot of different products and none worked.. What you need to do is get you a coach and let them fast track your success.. There is plenty of great coaching programs offered here on the WF...

So take this great community that we got and search for some coaching programs, Make an informed business decision on whether or not the coaching program your looking at will help you accomplish what it is your wanting to accomplish and if it doesn't scratch it off the list and head to the next one there's plenty to choose from..

Before you do ANYTHING you need to decide what niche you want to go into and then go create an online presence. Build relationships with other marketers and make sure you are building an email list from day one Then you can affiliate market once you have built a relationship with that list.

It's amazing how quick people are to say that a method or technique doesn't work simply because they have not succeeded with it. What about all of those other internet marketers that are making money (sometimes HUGE money) doing the exact same methods that the newbie says doesn't work?

90% of the success will be because of the individual marketer, while 10% on the method being used (just my personal opinion).

Pick a method and STICK TO IT! That's how you will become successful.

    Much Success,

    1. Focus on a what you want to accomplish within a given time frame.
    2. Actively work in order to get there.
    3. Remove all unnecessary obstacles that derail you from you what you want to accomplish
    4. Take one step at a time.

In other words FART out all the internet marketing "Pink Kool-Aid" you've been drinking
... KIDDING about the FART acrostic.

On a serious note... start with what you want to accomplish and then decide on a business
model that you want to master to get there. In internet marketing or any online business
strategy, the 6-figure formula is simple.

    1. Find a Single Converting Strategy for your specific market
    2. Find a Single Traffic Method that gets you converting traffic - for starters
    3. Scale up your traffic.

If you have any more questions, just type away or PM any of those who posted their
    reply to the thread.

My most successful site was a WordPress site that was directed toward pre-sales for BattleField 3 Limited Edition. Links sent users to my Amazon store which was specifically configured for Battlefield 3 sales. Unfortunately, I only made a few Amazon affiliate sales on the site.

I've thought about adapting this site and store for Battlefield 4 or some other product. Perhaps someone here could offer some suggestions to make the site work better?

From what I've been reading about Google changes, I may have been penalized for making a single product site, and repeating the main keyword too many times. It's still up at battlefield3limitededition.com, if you want to take a look.

Thanks again for any help you can provide!

WOW! Thanks for all of the suggestions, people! I've read through some of the material and suggestions, and will continue to do so!

Here are some answers to some of the questions you've asked.

I've tried: adsense sites, affiliate marketing (using clickbank products), Amazon stores, WordPress blogs, product-based sites, some Facebook marketing, and more.

I’ve tried a variety of products without success. The ones I've tried either did not work at all (malfunctioned), got little or no results, or required some unethical practices that I'm just not going to participate in.

Yes, I've done a considerable amount of research into IM, and taken some online and live (in-person) classes. I'm familiar with keyword research, SEO techniques, pinging to get BLOGs noticed, and other techniques.

I have some other training/products that I've purchased that I'm still working with, but it is very slow going. So far, my cash flow for my IM sites & products is negative.

WHAT I'M REALLY LOOKING FOR IS...

    Affiliate marketing and/or Adsense sites.

Resources I currently have available include:
    Adsense account.
    Google developer account.
    Amazon account. Amazon stores.
    Clickbank account.
    Photoshop & other graphics software.
Wordpress software, and some nice templates
    Web design & graphics skills
    Web hosting account.
Some time on the weekend to work on the business.
