Hi warriors,

I've heard many great things about Semiologic and was about to invest the $295 for the year on it when I decided to check at some "example" sites and what I see is the design totally sucks and even the "custom" designers they have produce bad sites.

The only half-decent graphics is the Semiologic.com site itself. So I was wondering, is there a graphics designer/programmer who can make the design much more slicker and Web2.0 style good looking design?

The generic blogs it creates have 1995 style blog designs. What gives? Any alternatives from an SEO standpoint?

    Hi JW

This used to be a great system however the market has moved a lot since its release.

There are a lot of good tools around now that will let you do much more such as Artisteer and the newer plugins will allow you to do some pretty impressive customization.

When Semiologic was released doing a lot of this was quite hard however it is now a lot easier with the above tools and VS 2.7 or wordpress.

In fairness to Semiologic - it was never designed to be graphically pleasing, the objective was to have...

      1. A simple way to install and optimize Wordpress blogs
      2. A standardized set of powerful plugins (including some designed by Denis himself that make using Wordpress easier and more effective from SEO perspective)
      3. Pre-load some common themes and templates that make designing the blog simple

As far as graphics go - any graphics person , ebook cover designer, etc.. can create headers and elements for blogs and insert them into Semio blogs.

Semio just released a "Reloaded" Theme as well which gives a very powerful set of design elements to create nearly any blog layout out there today.

They went through some challenges about 6-months ago when Denis (the originator) thought he had a deal to sell and the deal went sour after a period of time which created a huge interruption in progress and support - all of that is more or less fixed no though.

I couldn't care less about the graphics of Semiologic, that baby allows me to generate hundreds of thousands in targeted traffic while barely even moving a finger.

In my opinion, there is no CMS that can come close to even matching it. And it is also 100% IM optimized.

Not to mention Denis updates it like every month.

Graphics don't really matter when you can make millions, leave graphic design for sales letters, mini sites and cover graphics.

      Daniel nails it right.

Semiologic is about functionality, to quickly get things done and going.

It's a great SEO theme template for anybody to start with.

    Hi Wright,
Actually you are right on the point of design for the Semio logic themes. But as it is said that it was not the target for them. Since you have used it liked the functionality and now is looking for a good theme on it. So their 1st target was to get you on that.
And as far as design is concerned, you can have any WP designer and developer to have you a great Web 2.0 theme. Its not that difficult. But Semiologic mainly targets at easy management of multiple blogs, obviously for new wordpress users without any knowledge of the backend.

I was not impressed with Semiologic at first but is has grown on me more and more. A lot of the problem with it is that the themes really do suck. Dennis should hire a designer to come up with 12 or so skins that you can use right off the bat.

There also seems to be a steep learning curve involved at first. Once you get over that though it's a pretty awesome platform. I've noticed a lot of the big name bloggers use Semiologic and swear by it.

I started with Semio but moved away from it eventually.

Even custom headers couldn't make the themes look good. The final straw was an upgrade a while back that broke a lot of things.

most aweful theme ever. I took a look at this once, for me it was just a huge collection of otherwise freely available WP plugins with the ugliest theme ever.
