NEWBIES - Make Yourself This Important Promise Right NOW

It's Monday, and this is going to be a very important week for you.

I know that my biggest problem when I was starting my online business (if you could call it that in the beginning) was FOCUS.

This is what I want every single new internet marketer who is reading this thread to do today. I'm not concerned with what you have been doing, nor am I concerned with what your plan is tomorrow.

I want you to FOCUS on today only.

You are going to dig up a recent WSO that you have purchased, and FINISH it. You know, the one staring you in the face on your desktop that you began, got distracted or frustrated because you couldn't figure out how to overcome one of the steps, and never completed.

Take that WSO and finish it TODAY. You have all day.

If you don't have a WSO, buy one. Invest in your education. If you do buy one - start it AND finish it, if you can do so in one day.

I was trying to come up with the actual statistic, but out of the number of WSO's I have purchased in my lifetime that I started and completed, taking the WSO from A to Z, only maybe two of them DID NOT make me money. WSO's as a whole aren't nearly the bad wrap that can sometimes proceed them. It's up to YOU to take action.

If you have an existing website that needs sprucing up - identify the two most important improvements that need to be made and COMPLETE BOTH of those tasks.

If you have a blog post to write, start writing that post RIGHT NOW and make sure that the 'Publish' button gets hit before you go to bed tonight. FINISH the post. Make sure the content is top notch. You can do it.

If you want to learn Wordpress, LEARN WORDPRESS. Tell yourself right now that you are going to learn Wordpress today, and get moving on it.

Am I asking you to avoid Facebook, Twitter, Emails, etc.??

Nope.

Set aside one full hour today to screw around with all of your 'distractions'. You can even break them up into 3 twenty minute blocks if you like.

Take a full hour for lunch today and get your favorite meal. Treat yourself.

But do not go to bed tonight not having completed an important task. Take responsibility for you actions today because it's on you and you only to succeed. The smarter and more diligent you work, the luckier you will become.

And remember one thing - YOU CAN DO IT.

Never give up on yourself and for goodness sake stop beating yourself up if you can't figure something out right away. It doesn't make you stupid, worthless, unworthy, etc.

If you get knocked down - GET BACK UP.

If Tuesday and the rest of the week comes along and you need to be revived, feel free to revert back to this thread for some motivation.

FINISH a task today and reward yourself somehow once you do so.

You can do this.

So go do it.

It's not motivation that's the problem with most people, it's lethargy. Although the two can go hand in hand.

IM is unique in that you HAVE to learn the basics from as many angles as possible to have any chance of succeeding, particularly as it's a constantly evolving ballpark. These things take TIME, and therein lies the root of the problem as too many people expect results to happen sooner rather than later.

People experience lethargy in IM not as a result of a physical languidness or exhaustion, but more as a mental weariness as they've set the bar of their expectations too high in too short a period of time. This can heap pressure on you. Newbies to IM are not helped by the fact that the internet abounds with so called mega success stories, and spurious claims of how easy it is to make money online quickly.

Motivation to overcome lethargy should require no more incentive than the needs of your family and loved ones, whilst remembering that patience is a virtue. As you say, it's a good thing to set yourself targets each day and don't stop till you achieve them. But if you use also due diligence and constantly look, listen and learn from the vast ocean of free online knowledge then your patience will ultimately be rewarded. Unfortunately most people simply don't have that mindset or that patience, and many never will.

    Hey Brendon,

That is a great post, not only for newbies but for anyone who is struggling online. The major downfall for a marketer, and as a matter of fact for anyone who is in business is not to have a good overall plan that is segmented into small daily plan of tasks. Not having a daily plan or not sticking to it if you have one is a sure recipe for failure.

Most internet marketers jump from one project to another trying to become Jacks of all trade but in the end they really are master of none.

I believe that if one follows a sequence and sticks to it success will inevitably come. A person needs to concentrate on one thing and do it well. Then he/she can expand or rinse and repeat only what works.

There is too much info online an we just cannot master it all. But if we master only one essential aspect of IM the financial reward will be much greater than if we dabble in all aspects of IM .

Your exactly right, When I was first getting started out I would jump from one thing to the next and many times I would do so in one day.

I finally got sick of spending the money to try and learn this then I just stopped and looked at my business from an outsiders perspective on what needed to be changed and what I needed to focus on.

Well needless to say, I quit buying courses and Got a Mentor and Just started studying successful marketers and modeling my campaigns after their's and I used a proven system that has been tested and is being used by the million dollar marketers..

Also what I have done is I went to Staples and Got a Planner and What I do is on a Sunday evening I plan out my whole week and write down the tasks I must complete each day to build upon my business and brand, I don't get up from my computer until those tasks are completed and marked off for the day.

I usually spend about 3-4 hours per day on my business as I am full time in this industry, First thing I do when I wake up is get my planner out and set it beside me and start going through the tasks and once they are done then that is when I use the internet for entertainment purposes...

If any of you Warriors Has not tried this method out, Go to Wal-Mart or Staples and get you a Yearly Planner and on Sunday Evening take an hour to sit down quietly by yourself in a quite place to get your mindset right and just start planning out your whole week and each day open that up and complete the tasks and don't get up from your computer until your done...

This was a great post and thanks for sharing it with us!!!

I do agree focus is everything but i like to mention three areas that all marketers must focus on.

          1. Whether or not your online business is successful or not, you still put in the focus everyday to work at it. The best is to set several hours for your online business everyday.

          2. While you allocate the time to work on your online business, Make sure you work and not watch videos or get stuck with some online games.

          3. If you decided on a method to go about with your IM, stick to it and not change around. Most new marketers fail cos they change too quick

Distraction is one thing. Lack of motivation is another. Laziness is a real problem.

But i believe that the main issue is comfort. As long as your comfortable with what you have or where you are. You will not have any motivation to change.

    Work on your WHY first.

    Cheers,

And maybe, just maybe some people are not confident enough to make their own choices and will ask for reassurance from others. Some ask what's best for this and what they shouldn't be doing. They are likely aware of these things but won't go for it until learning what others have to say.

@BrendonZahrndt -->I know, for myself, that the biggest thing for me was to find someone to follow and just start following what they told me. But it does come down to FOCUS...lack of focus is what kills most businesses. As an employee...we don't need to worry about focus because it is ingrained into our brain that if we don't work, we don't have a job any more. Well, the business that we are in is the same way but you don't have anyone standing over you telling you to get on that computer and get to work.

@themichaelcook --> Why buy a planner from Wal-mart when you can go online and download a template for excel and print it out. Or use Thunderbird and add the calendar plugin and use it. The point I am trying to make is that you are SOOO correct that putting down on paper what you are going to do and then doing it is what is going to make you successful.

These are hard lessons to learn for a business owner that was an employee before. I know for myself that I have struggled with this not only because being an employee but also my personality doesn't like to write things down or if I do, I lose the paper. haha

Well, 2013 is the year of change so let's make it happen folks.

I am new to warrior forum but have heard about it on several podcasts that I listen to. I have a website Self Sufficient Wisconsin is dedicated to building sustainable communities.. I knew ABSOLUTELY nothing about setting up a website when I started this site. I basically watched how to videos to learn how to just put up a post, set categories etc....a very long and trying learning curve. Now I am about 7 months in to it. With in the last month or 2 I began learning about keywords and seo...I KNOW my site is full of holes and is not optimized worth a crap. I would like to fix it, or clean it up. Starting with the domain name, then with the articles and links. I just dont know how, or where to begin really. If anyone has the time to take a look and just give me a few pointers I would greatly appreciate it. I do have some affiliate links and a products page....But I know that the way it is all set up is definately the way you do not want to do it. I have spent hours upon hours upon hours learning to do what I have already done with this site. So, as bad as it is I still see it as a milestone. But I would like to clean it up, make it more user friendly, and actually get found in the search engines. Any help or constructive criticism would be more than appreciated

      infantry,

In the interest of keeping the thread on topic, I will give you one recommendation on the promise that you will take my advice and take action.

I want to see your results, too.

Let's talk about your 'recommended products' page......

You have a number of Amazon.com affiliate links littered throughout the page - but you don't 'recommend' any of them.

I don't trust you because of this.

To me, you are simply pumping products into my face in the hopes that you will earn a commission.

Internet users are savvy - most can smell this tactic a mile away and will purposely avoid clicking those links.

If I were you I would start with the first product and give an honest, in depth review, in your own words, on why your readers may need or enjoy the product.

Do this for every single product you 'recommend' on that page - I want to trust you, and I may even buy some of those prepper items, if I trust that you have my best interests at heart.

Forget about SEO, optimization, and all of that junk. That shouldn't be your priority right now - your readers and their trust should be.

Make those changes, be honest and authentic, and I'll help you with some of the other changes I see you should make.

But take action and make it happen.

      Brendon

Hey Brendon, great post and excellent advice

You mention that focus is really important and I agree with @themichaelcook about being organised and writing down your goals every week.

This is something I do every Saturday; write down my goals for each day of the week. I take a sheet of A4 paper, split it into 7 columns for the days of the week, and 4 rows for working time slots in the day (7am - 8am = fitness, 9am - 1pm = morning work slot, 2pm - 6pm = afternoon work slot, and 7pm -10pm = evening chillout/social time).

Also the pomodoro technique is very effective (hands up who's tried it?) - I only discovered it a few months ago. It's basically time slicing, which is my favourite way of being productive and achieving goals during the day.

Very true. Although sometimes the difficulty can be in finding out what we're truly capable of. Do we go out there and try as many things as possible to see which we're better at?

Very true. It took me years to realise that I wouldn't gain real success unless I focussed all my energy and efforts in to one single project.

Beware of people who say 'Don't put all your eggs in one basket'. While this is sound advice down the line, if you don't focus on getting one project successful to begin with, you'll have an empty basket anyway.

I couldn't agree any more than I already do when it comes to completing tasks. Yo usee that's the problem with so many people. Once they find out that there's work involved, or that it is a little bit hard; they don't want to bother with any more so they put it down and go onto the next latest and greatest thing online.

If people were to take the time to stay focused and do the things tht they know need to be done to make them successful, we'd have a whole lot more successful entrepreneurs online these days, and far less broke individuals looking for ways to make money.

Just finish what's already onyour plate and then if you want more, then go and get it. If you don't take care of those tasks that need to be taken care of first, then you will never be successful online. If you need to learn how to use Wordpress, then do it, if you need to learn how to write a report or e-book, then do that. If you need to know how to write and submit articles, then do that and so on.

I think thta you get the idea here. If you ahve to, then set daily goals that are easily achieved. Don't set goals that are too complicated for you. Set daily goals that you know that you can accomplish and complete those before going onto the next thing.

Before you know it you will be running and managing a highly successful online business.

Great post I agree with much of what is said hear and laugh because it wasn't long ago that I realized that I was chasing my tail. I would buy a program love what it was saying get started and never finish. Then I would get determined and go back to it a few months later. The funny thing is after while I would finally get it finished if I was determined enough to come back to it. If I came back I would get a little more done each time. It may have taken me a year maybe two to get one of these programs completed all to find out that it did work and had I just stuck to it the first time I would have made some money a year before.

Find a program you like and stick to it. No matter what. Most of the programs out here work if you do them and don't fear the things you don't know. Learn to make friends in forums like this one and most people have no problem giving you some advice. Now you may have to weed through the crap sometimes but you can get great advice from people who have already gone through the same things.

We all know how tough it is. Most of us want to feel like the advice we give will be taken. Sometimes people have to fail a few times before they can trust things wholeheartedly. Having some faith in what you are doing goes a long way to success.
