Are these Logos any good?

I paid someone $60 to design a logo for my website. The website will be providing with top quality web design to costumers so the logo should reflect that. What do you guys think?

yea they look decent, but 60 bucks is a lot. You can probably get something of similar quality on here for much cheaper.

How did you brief your designers?

If 'top quality web design' is the only requirement, the pink logo seems better.

Although the logos do look like they were probably just template logos they used, for a good custom logo design $60 is definitely NOT a lot of money.

This is what silly sites like fiverr have done to this marketplace. They have totally devalued a lot of services to the point where people think $60 for a custom logo design is a lot of money. It's ridiculous.

Any decent company would charge a business hundreds/thousands of dollars for proper logo and branding services and rightly so.

I am not suggesting people get logos on fiverr because those are low quality. I know 60 isn't a lot of top quality logos. I was just talking about those 2 logos in particular.

I think the first one looks good. $60 is a bargain for a logo if it makes you happy and winds up being the face of your companies business literature.

The thing is I told him it was ok and paid a week ago on freelancer :S I'm looking at them now and I don't think they reflect top quality web design... I will be needing logos again anyway so I was kind of testing this designer (both logos, same guy). I'm just wondering if I should just pay another guy that is charging $80 and hope it's a better job...?

The other issue is that I realized until later that when I upload the logo it looks too small on my website header:

I think the brand name should be as big as possible to make a good impression, no?

    thanks!

I get a lot of outsourcing done and what I find best is to always provide them with samples of the types of things I like. So if I was going for logo design then I would go to Google images and search around until I find a few examples of the types of logos I like. This immediately cuts out a lot of the guesswork for your designer and means you are much more likely to be happy with the work they come back with.

You might also want to check out all the logo templates here:
      http://graphicriver.net/search?utf8=...erm=web+design

If not to use as your actual logo you might find some good examples there that you could show to the designer so they have a better idea of the type of style you are looking for.

You want to convey "top quality web design" but pay template quality prices for a logo and are not happy with it?

If you want a top quality logo for your top quality web design site, go to Elance and hire a real designer at a real price, at least $300 and you'll get what you're looking for .... original design.

Personally they don't impress me. For a 'top quality web design' business, your logo should reflect that, and I don't think the designer quite 'got it'.

You get what you pay for.

      I agree with this.

The first logo I don't like the typeface and I'm not sure what the actual logo is.

The 2nd logo has better typeface, but I don't like blur and lens flares in a logo. A logo should be identifiable in black and white and flat colours. How will this work on a logo with all that blur and lens flare?

Then again, $60 isn't a lot, so they're fine for the price.

But in all honesty I personally wouldn't acquire web design from a company with either of those logos. I'd expect a designer to have a really clean logo and neither of those are clean enough for me.

I'm going to agree that the logos are just "OK". For proper logo design, you should be paying a lot more than $60, so if you give the second designer a try for $80, you're still coming out ahead. Just make sure you give him some examples of what you consider "high quality". You may want to provide colors, and different descriptions of what you'd like the logo to convey. Best of luck!

I prefer the one on the right, the orange circle stands out. Compared to the one on the right, but they are both good and look professional.

I would have to agree that they are just ok. I look at them and to me they don't say "top qaulity web design."
You should have a slogan with your logo as well to help convey your solution/product that you are selling. It will help you express why you are here and alleviate and confussion with your future clients.

They don't really look sufficiently stunning for a web design company. I know someone who does decent work if you want me to pm his contact info. Probably would be a little more though. $60 is a good deal but presentation is everything.

They look too scrunched up or too compact. Doesn't brand well. You should hold a logo design contest and pay only the winner.

I personally think you're onto a winner with the orange logo. Why?
    • It's simple, concise and can easily be transferrd onto business cards, letterheads, footers etc
    • Minimal use of colours (black and orange) mean you can create a more easily recognisable brand
    • The orange circle with a V in it can be used as an icon - for example to add branding to your stationary, website icon etc

I think $60 is very cheap, most professional logo design businesses would charge a lot more (min $200-300)

This is what you get for $60. For $80, expect more of the same....

Stock images with your business name next to them. Most likely all raster. And possibly no transparency.

Don't spend $1,000 on a Lexus, and then complain that it has problems.

They are templates. The one on the right is just a circle with a letter cut out, and the one on the left is probably a $1 stock image with your company name over it. Not worth $60.

I suggest you describe to them what you want your logo to look like and what the estimated size should be. If they can't deliver it according to your expectation, you can ask them to work on it again. Logo designing can be quite expensive if you want it to have quality that will stand out on your site. I disagree that the logo doesn't matter especially when you are offering web designing services.

Here's a hint... If you can't transfer the design to plain black/white, then you're looking at more of a graphic than a logo. Most successful companies have very basic logos that are not distracting, but have just enough design aesthetic applied to them to be distinct.

That being said, the 1st design relies on lots of gradients, which won't transfer well to other mediums. The second design, while easy enough to convert to black/white, doesn't seem to have very good visual flow. Maybe a different font in the white space, possibly move the text... distinct borders or something else that will encapsulate it?

They're very pleasant, but not logos; these are exactly what they look like: a pretty photo/graphic with some type superimposed. Tells me nothing about the company and nothing compels me to look beyond the symbol. No humor, no cleverness, no story, no design.

As far as price, you need to pay a designer enough to talk with you about the company (other than keywords), learn the goals and values, and have time to experiment with and develop an original graphic that works in all colors (or none), all sizes, and all mediums. $60 would not cover the conference to discuss needs, etc., as far as I'm concerned.

But then, there are "throw-away" logos, used for a test or placeholder. This would serve that purpose.

As another posted mentioned, I also would not purchase web design from a business that put so little into their appearance.

    Just my $.02.

Right so i still think they are not good. The 1st one is a pretty design at best but its not a logo. I do think the Logo is the most important thing for a company, so my options, it seems, are paying another freelancer who is charging $80 who has some nicer designs or what?

on the portfolio tab, are some of these designs worth $80?

    https://www.freelancer.com/u/crea8iv...reMe_PVBidList

...and if this 99designs place ends up being $300 it's too much. So what's the best crowdsourcing place? is crowdsourcing worth it more than a specific designer? The thing about it is I think I'm just going to get a few dozen designs to choose from, but they are all going to be cheap :S

I'm willing to pay $100-$300 but it really has to be top quality design. Anyone knows a place that delivers for sure?

    Thanks Guys!

The way to hire a designer (a real designer) is to go to a site like Elance and put your project in and get bids. Review the bidders portfolios and customer feedback and maybe talk to them a bit until you find one that you like his/her work and hire them. Pay peanuts, get peanuts.

Those logos are simple, looking logos and nothing fancy. As already, stated no message is gained by looking at them and they do not have any "wow" factor. In the future, try to include , some kind of slogan or message in your logos.

The logo is important but it's YOU that makes the sale. Don't rely on your "image" to build your business. People like to do business with people they like. Get people to like YOU and you'll be successful. The logo can easily be upgraded after you've been in business a while.
