How Should I Continue Milking This Small Niche?

Hey Warriors, I've been running a new "how to" infoproduct in a small niche the last 2 1/2 months. It's a combo of an actual physical guide plus online videos.

Between March 1 and May 14 (today), it looks like I've only had around 1500 unique visitors. I've made 15 sales, with an average sale of around $85 each. A lot of these sales came from one affiliate who is in the same niche (there are VERY few selling in this niche as it is a small and tight one).

Unfortunately, I can't use Google Adwords to drive traffic since they terminated my account for ridiculous reasons. And I've tried using Bing/Yahoo and Facebook, but the traffic doesn't seem to convert. Plus, the volume as I've mentioned, isn't really high for this niche.

How do you think I should continue in this niche?

One issue is that a lot of the info in this "how to" niche is the amount of free info online, esp. YouTube videos.

But with that being said, I think people still like to have an "all in one" info product that has everything they need.

Maybe I'm wrong? Maybe that is the issue?

The only thing I can think I can do to increase sales is to...

* Continue to split test my sales page to get the absolute best version I can.
* Increase subscribers with a popup or maybe use Survey Funnel to really target them.
* Continue to tweak and tweak my autoresponder sequence until I see some conversions.

And of course, increase traffic. Especially to start ranking for some nice keywords.

I've actually used PPC to get subscribers via Facebook and Yahoo/Bing, but I can't seem to get them to convert to my main product.

Of course, the main product isn't really cheap, I've tested it with prices ranging from $79 to $97. Still not enough data to determine which price point is best.

I'm thinking since there is a lot of free "how to" videos on this niche in YouTube, I MUST find some sort of USP to make my product stand out. To be premium. Etc etc.

Thoughts or suggestions?

P.S. And please do not ask me what niche this is in. All I can say is, it's not in IM or any of the BIG evergreen niches. Although, the subject is actually evergreen. It will never go away.

Firstly congrats on the progress, that shows that what you are doing is working, as sales are being made

Carry on by finding alternative sources of traffic, create youtube mini videos which link directly to your website after the video ends, leaving them hungry for more information.
Article marketing, blogging, video marketing etc are more ideas for traffic generation.

Contact blog owners who are bloggging in similar related niches, and forum owners for potential JV/Affiliate deals. If you don't as you don't get.

There are 'how to lose weight' videos on youtube, that doesn't stop people market in that niche. There is loads of free information on the net but you can still make money if there is a demand.

Start to grow your list even bigger, and start to prepare surveys questions for them, (surveymonkey or askdatabase) and ask them what are their problems, needs and tweak your product around it, and even start to create a new product based on their Survey answer/their needs.

This will give you an additional product to your funnel.

Free information definitely isn't your problem or your competition. You can find all the information that you want in any niche using a search engine.

But the problem could be that nobody wants to pay for that information, which is a whole different ball game. I wouldn't rule it out though, since you've already made sales.

Here's the thing. I get the impression that you do not already have a squeeze page since you said you might increase subscribers with a pop-up.

So would I be right to say that you have an opt-in form on your sales page? What's that converting at? Because it's clear your sales page is getting 1%.

Maybe if you remove the opt-in form, you'll increase your response. If you increase your response, and you can prove it, you'll attract more affiliates when you reach out to them.

Meanwhile you could try putting up a squeeze page for your own purposes and driving all your traffic there by connecting with other vendors and content sites in your niche.

Think if you had captured all those 1500 people upfront first? Or 50% of them? You're conversion rate might be much higher over the long term.

    Excellent points!

I'll add a few more bits of info...

One, I don't have an opt-in on my main sales letter site for my product. I have nothing there actually to gather emails. BUT what I do have is a CONTENT site based in the same niche that has an optin form, etc. and content.

My goal is to build up the content site and hopefully get some nice SEO rankings, and of course, get subscribers.

Once they enter in my funnel, finally expose them to my main sales letter.

The problem is mainly getting quality traffic, and secondly, getting my autoresponder email series to convert.

I have recently implemented a Google Docs survey (which is great btw) and so I'm starting to get some great info. For example, they want to be emailed DAILY on this subject. Go figure. I would have not guessed that.

    It pays to survey, literally

That's a good idea. How is your squeeze page converting, your autoresponder converting and how many people do you got so far?

Right now, the opt in rate is around 30%.

      Only around 130 subscribers.

      Open rates are attached.

And like I said, I can't get them to convert.

May I ask you who is the target market for that niche?

Once you got that what are they trying to acomplish, fears desires etc.?

Give them what they want in any kind of way the usually do in that niche. Get into your target markets mind, behaviour and habits. Understand them.

If they do not convert you do not have something they want or the wrong target market for that niche.

As I clearly stated in my main post, I will not reveal the market.

And also, I also stated the market is interested in "how to" type of info.

    That is fine with me.

Those are just the basics you should be thinking of.

So start to do research and provide the how to stuff they want.

      Most were through an affiliate.

Maybe I need to move my product over to Clickbank to get more affiliates. But, as I said, this is a small niche...so I'm not sure I will gain too many affiliates.

Okay, so this is your product, yes? And a single affiliate pushed most of those sales?

Then find out what that affiliate is doing and replicate/ramp it up.

I would say the best thing to do is google your niche and have a look at your competitors products and the feedback they put. People will tell you what they want from a product as well as what they don't want and this information can be invaluable.

You could try putting together a teaser product on your chosen niche and giveaway as a free gift on your site or submit it to free ebook directories put just enough info to get them wanting more then direct them to your sales page.

    Good luck
