Foreigners and affiliate payments. What forms do I need?

Okay, so I set-up an affiliate program to sell my ebook through e-junkie. Everything was fine and dandy until a thought occurred to me. If I have an affiliate who is located outside of the US, then how do I handle taxes. I know what I am doing and what forms to send for US residents, but I am lost when it comes to foreigners.

Can anyone offer advice? If the non-US members of the forum could tell me what forms they receive from US-based affiliate networks, then I would really appreciate it.

TIA,

Heather

The best thing to do is call your local tax man and ask him!

You will get all the info you need from the person who will get upset if you don't do the right thing!

I seem to recall that for foreigners you basically need them to sign a form saying that they are foreigners. it is a specific form though a "Certification Of No United States Activities" your local tax man will be able to tell you what sort of thing he will accept.

I like to keep an open mind, but not so open that my brains fall out

I think you might be talking about the W-8BEN form.

Its different for every country. Whenever I get paid off a US affiliate they dont send me any forms and its upto me to sort it out.

Probably best to ask an accountant really just to make sure.

I called the IRS and someone there explained everything to me, so now I know what I am doing.

Ultimately I just called the IRS and talked to a very nice man who advised me what to do. I would suggest that you do the same since the answer that you will receive might depend upon the country that you are dealing with.
