Over 2300 im facebook friends - what to do ?

Hello,

About 6 months ago I joined FB and went making friends with lots of im people. Now I don't seek any but many invite me as freinds - so I just accept them if they are IMers, so the number has gone over 2300.

I am building now an IM community website which will be ready soon and will want to know the best way to inform the FB friendsl and invite them all to join.

Whats the best way to use FB ? I think I can only send a message out to lists of up to 20 friends (not sure) Should I divide them up into groups of 20s ? I also belong to many groups - I suppose I can not send messages to these members ( ? )

Has anyone done any FB marketing ?

What do you recommend ?

Thanks for any input.

I guess that NOBODY here knows ANYTHING about Facebook marketing ?

    No, I don't believe that !

Maybe you thought that I was trying to "show off" about having x FB contacts ? Please don't think that. This is a really serious question about social marketing. If what I have available is useful, I would like to learn how to use it.

Maybe you guys just think that it should not be done ??

    OK - please say so.

Yea, me too. I have a bogus Facebook girl account which I created for having fun with sex hungry idiots, that has nearly 2000 friends. But now that I've entered this IM business, maybe I'll use that account for evil after all

You can create a group within fb and then send out your message/invite asking them to join.

Honestly, I'm not familiar if there is a cut off - but if there is then you send the same message out to 20 more people a day until you have hit them all.

If they are in a group, you can then send out a message to all at once I believe.

If you abuse features you could get banned. I know a guy who got banned 4 times for uploading too many pics at once (they stopped banning him when he added his middle name instead of signing up with the same one over and over).

I have never made any money on facebook. I rarely visit it but I have about 800 friends. I really don't see how I can profit with it. I post my articles on my wall but of course it is not targeted traffic so no one buys anything. There are a ton of guys I have never met who want to chat with me so I keep my status "offline" every time I log on to prevent an avalanche of IM's; also pokes are very annoying. FB has proven useless to me personally

If you have a real business with real customers, FB is just a tool to interact with them in a different way. The bonus is that, due to the nature of FB, you can expand to the outer circle by getting exposed to friends of your customers.

It's totally different than search marketing (which is the bulk of what we do), but there's millions and millions of buyers out there who don't start their shopping on Google.

In regards to the OP, Facebook probably wont' be too effective since it looks like he's got just about zero relationship with these 2300 people. They probably won't care too much about his offers.

        Thanks Preston and eshannon
        for your suggestions.

I thought that FB could be used a lot for IM ( especially
as all my "friends" are IMers anyway.

There must be some secret techniques be used

Only reason you saw more Warrior Forum people talking more about MySpace than FB was cause MySpace was easy to spam.

If you think FB is useless, you're way off base. Read my earlier post. If you've got a real business, it's great. If you've got a bunch of little adsense sites, or you just pitch affiliate products, you're better off focusing on twitter.

Well that is not quite true, I have an interesting profile and all my "friends" ar IMers - now thats a good base to begin with.

I haven't spent much time interacting with anyone because I need to spend my time building a product and a website first.

    Steadfast:
I heard that Facebook is more popular in Asia. Although not many people talk about FB , if you can figure out how to use FB for marketing, it's a great great success!!
That's just what this thread is about - but nobody is spilling the beans !

C'mon you guru people - share a little of your wisdom about FB - just a crumb or two
