I Started a WordPress Forum but...

I started a Vbulletin forum about everything related to WordPress and although I am very well versed in WP I could really use a little help with Topic Ideas & forum/sub-forum category suggestions.

For example, should I have a beginners section and have sub-forums for plugins, themes, and frameworks?

I think I'm over thinking it but I need a third party perspective on how to lay it our with categories, forums/sub-forums etc..and hoped I could get some good suggestions from fellow Warriors.

Thanks in advance!

  • I would do

    Beginners
    >>Installation
    >>Setting up your blog
    >>Hosting and Domain names

    Design
    >>Themes
    >>Plugins
    >>Community options

    Marketing
    >>Publicize your blog
    >>...etc

There's no need to reinvent the wheel here, this is pretty standard. I do agree it's a little ironic that you are using vbulletin though...

    • Thank ya sir!

      Great suggestions already implemented!

  • WP forum on vbulletin Irony! go with the above suggestion.

    • Yup it's a forum, soo the best software out there for that purpose is vbulletin, sorry but I dont see the Irony

  • I'd add a section about all the various ways not just to publicize a blog, but also how to make money using all the various methods. People tend to like to learn how to make money and share ideas!

You could also add a "content swap" section.

    • Thank you! that's exactly the type of thing I'm looking for.

I especially like the "content swap" idea!

Thanks very much, I'm off to find out how to implement that idea

  • Why not use a wordpress-based forum solution such as BBpress or Simple Press? It doesn't lend much credence to be talking about Wordpress when your on an entirely different platform which some would consider a competitor. Vbulletin also has a blog and CMS component.

    • My post was asking for information and Ideas on my "existing" website as I am 100% sold on Vbulletin and will be using that as my cms for this project as I have done in the past quite successfully.

No free solution comes even close to managing and running a forum with thousands of members as Vbulletin does, it's really just that simple.

But this is "off topic" to this thread and I still see no issue with using Vbulletin, but I appreciate and respect your opinion as long as it's mutual

    • Heh, never noticed that!
      wow I'm GOOD
I'll have to let the mods know I suppose!

    • It was nothing..... REALLY!
