Questions & General Observations From a Novice

Hello,

For the past two weeks, I've been reading and absorbing as much information on the vast landscape that is modern IM - much of that info coming from this forum. I am very lucky and appreciative to have been turned onto such a valuable, reliable resource.

I've made a few observations and I have a few questions that I've searched for but have yet to solve.

Observations:

There's no magic formula to making money at this. It simply takes hours and energy and innovation to earn a living from IM. The keyword being 'earn'. I came into this half with the mindset that I could do X,Y and then Z and then poof my bank account would blow up (just to clarify, I never expected it to be easy, just formulaic).

I searched, and if this is redundant I apologize, but I think it'd be nice, especially for the newcomers, if there were a guide to all of the acronyms and terminology associated with IM. Between PPO and PPC and CPC and MMO and PLR and everything else, it's hard to keep that stuff straight without stopping to search wikipedia every five minutes.

There is an abundance of goodwill as to the attitudes of the veterans toward the noobs. I've seen a lot of repeat questions answered with dignity and seriousness even though they've probably been asked 1000's of times. That really speaks volumes about the community as a whole.

Questions:

About landing pages - I've been observing but I've yet to see this discussed. Many IMer's have several products they're either selling as affiliates or they're their own products. My question is, do these all have to be hosted on seperate domains? Can they be all hosted on seperate, static pages under the same domain or subdomain? I realize the SEO disadvantages of this, but other than that, are there credibility issues to offering multiple products from the same URL?

Specifically, if I registered something generic like 'mikesproductreview.com' or something to that effect, and simply marketed every product from there, would that be detrimental to sales?

Many people are bloggers here, as am I (albeit just for the enjoyment of it). My question is, what do you blog about? I know how to gain an audience, but if you're in a niche you're unfamiliar with, how do you blog about it and become a known authority? Do you simply regurgitate what the experts are saying? Post articles from PLR types of things? What about if your products are very diverse in target audience - i.e. poker and online dating, for example. Do you have to have multiple blogs?

On article marketing, I've heard people talk of writing dozens of articles for weeks on end and posting them on EZA among other sites. My question is, how do you write that much content on the same topic? Are all of the articles very similar?

Thanks for taking the time.

Mike

    Hi Mike,

Great points to make and questions to be concerned about. I have a lot of experience yet green and may not provide the answer(S) you're looking for, but I'm going to give it a shot.

What to blog about would be whatever it is that you love and are passionate about. I like Golf and Flyfishing and consider myself fairly versed in the fields. If you can determine through research that those niches can be monetized you are all set. If you live under a rock and have no hobbies, I hear outsourcing is the next best thing.

Landing pages are a whole different animal on their own and many people will argue what is the best way to proceed. What I have found is each niche, actually the people, the consumer within the niche that you will be marketing to will actually have different personality traits. They will re-act differently to similar / identical marketing campaigns than a different group does.

I can see that if you have a list of subscribers that is familiar with you, having a site like mikerecommends(dot)com/product1/ etc would go over better than to a new customer as it does look a little commercial

    Hope this helps.
