Why did you stop?

I have recently become more involved in this forum and the tips and ideas that I am picking up are coming quicker than I can implement but I would appreciate some further information from experienced warriors as I know you have all been through the significant experimentation that I am currently going through.
I am in experimentation mode. I have a budget and I am putting it to use in a number of areas i.e.
I have built a niche site with manual content, Adsense & I have recruited CaesarSEO on here based on warriorforum reviews of his service.
I have purchased a site from Flippa (This is on track to be profitable within the first 2 months so I am very positive about this one)
I am experimenting with selling domains on Flippa
I am also experimenting with PPC through to Affiliate links.
When I read the threads on here I notice that everyone has the common thread of 'build a list' but then individuals diversify into specific areas whether it is Email marketing, Affiliate Marketing, Amazon, Adsense etc.
What I am curious about is how did you end up in your particular area of expertise? what else did you try and fail at and at what point did you decide to cut your losses and go a different direction?
I know I need to 'focus' in on an area but establishing the point at which my personal skills and ways of working are failing in a particular area is proving difficult to nail down.
