  • Is list building worth it?

Well, no - not if that's the only thing you're doing.

You have to market to the list too. Keep them engaged, and display your authority just often enough.

Honestly because I'm pretty sure that you're going to take 'the money is in the list' literally and just build a squeeze page, offer a freebie and drive solos to it to build an unresponsive list....no. Don't bother it will be a waste of your time.

Sure, if you make no money from it. But why would you want to have a list that you make no money from?

Someone with a decent list of 10,000 should be able to make way more from that list than the cost of hosting those leads in their autoresponder.

      Am I missing something?

I would think that if you have a list of 10k+ subscribers and you have a good relationship and they are fairly responsive, your ROI would be very good.

Honestly, I have a list of 10k for a daily feed and I have been unable to get them to buy random crap. Because of this, I have taken down signup links for this list until I can figure out why they don't buy.

I have not tried creating a custom product to sell to this list, however. That is the next attempt.

Build a list, look after your subscribers well and the list will become one of the most valuable business assets you have. The money isn't (I'd suggest) in the list rather the relationship and trust you build with your subscribers. So yeah, absolutely worth it.

You can defenetly make money with the help of a big list. But having a list shouldn`t be your sole objective. Make money while building the list to make it worth it.

It is worth it 100% but the options need to be targeted... Best scenario is if you're giveaway and product ARE THE SOLUTION to the problem they're looking to solve. And if you can populate yore list with NON freebie seekers, you'll be much better off. This can be done in a multitude of ways like:
    1. Do a low priced WSO to get desperate/interested people signing up.
    2. Do a kw ppc campaign to your squeeze page/ wso.
    3. Offer to write a free bonus product for another product vendor
    Etc...

List building is well worth it! The problem though is people think the money is "in the list"

    This is completely FALSE!

The money is in the relationship you have with you list. Many people will just make a list and try to sell products day after day without giving any true value.

In order to build a highly responsive list you need your customers to
    KNOW, LIKE, and TRUST you.

So yes work on building a list - but make sure your prospects get to know you and that you provide them with MASSIVE value

Yep, I have a Gmail account filled with a lot of email from people like that. They write short and try to push new products all the time. Maybe I should make a hall of fame gallery? :p

When you have done a 2-3 years of content. It is then OK to recycle some of the content, but rewriting it a bit? I guess 95% has deleted their emails anyway. And will not notice that it is old, but still good stuff.

This is exactly it. Don't be another spammy list owner that will try and get thousands of people and sell them shitty things that you don't even care about. You can make so much more money with a list of 1000 responsive people than a list of 10,000 people that you are pitching products to every day.

Quite often building a list of interested
and targeted prospects is the fuel of
your business. You'll still have to be
very mindful of the demographic of
    your list.

    Strongly consider where you promote
your opt in form, as this will determine
how responsive your list will be.

    Do not be discouraged, however,
because the law of averages will be
on your side. Not everyone on your
list will want what you have, but
    someone will.

If you take that approach and focus
    on creating more and more
prospects each day you will make money.

As post in this thread states, the money
earned will vary from list to list. Factors
such as; follow up frequency, available
value, and (again) where you promote
    your forms.

List building is only worth it if you see your subscribers as real people and not just numbers. Create a bond with your list and they will give you money.

Focus on building a list of BUYERS, not freebie seekers. Little tip: They don't necessarily have to buy your products.

Then, pick a product to promote and set up a week long email series, with the call to action on the last two days. The first 5 days should sequentially explain the problem, and then you solve it on days 6 & 7.

For example, I'm all about Android, so if I want to promote an Android product, I would start off on Monday by explaining that I've heard about all these people who are killing it with mobile apps. I'd show stats etc. Then, over the next few days I would reveal how these people are doing it (making and selling apps). I'd make them hungry to want to get in on it and then provide the solution toward the back of the week. Spend a good few hours setting it all up, working on each day's email. This should be the start of your sales funnel. Then, anyone that buys product 1 goes onto another 'buyers' list that I do the same again with a different product.

Anyone that doesn't buy then goes onto another 'non-buyer' list that I email random promotions to.

I've found a lot of success with this model. Remember to filter out buyers onto another list and do the same again with a different product.

In short, there is a LOT of money to be made from a list, as long as you have a strategy and manage it well.
