How to create new posts on my new website

Hello Warriors,

It is the technical stuff that I am getting bogged down right now.

So far with your help, I have installed WP manually on my host hostgator.

I have created subfolders at my website like Articles and Blog.

I want to upload the articles I wrote (around 18) under the sub-folder Articles.

Questions:

1. What should I do so that one of my page under articles shows as

http://www.mysite.com/articles/my-first-article.htm or php?

2. When I want to create a new blog post, where should I logon? Hostgator or Wordpress?

If it is Hostgator, what should I do?
If it is Wordpress.org, what should I do?

Please advise and thanks for your patience while I learn to do this tech stuff.

Regards,
Peter.

If you installed WordPress on your own domain and hosting account (and it sounds like you did), then Wordpress.org is not involved at all.

You will login to your blog's admin dashboard at this link:

    http://yoursite.com/wp-admin

Or if your blog is in a sub-directory, then it would be:

    http://yoursite.com/subdirectory/wp-admin

You will want to create a category in WordPress called articles and set your permalinks to show the category in the url. Then just copy and paste your articles as new blog posts and put them in the articles category.

Couldn't you just create those as catergories and change the permalinks to "Custom Structure" - /%catergory%/%postname%

      Go to Settings/Permalinks

Might be easier. Just create the post and select the right catergory to post to.

how are you setting up your homepage? Static page, latest posts, etc.

          What Denise said.

It sounds like you need to go through a beginners guide to wordpress, since the question you're asking is pretty basic.

There are a multitude of FREE wordpress guides

I've found that Tom Ewer has some great step by step advice on setting on up and running it.

Have a look at "A Beginners Guide to WordPress [How to Start Blogging in 6 Steps" by Tom.

(I am not in any way affiliated with Tom Ewer, nor will I earn anything by referring you to him. I just think his content is great and he understands "newbie" bloggers since he was one himself up to a couple years ago.)

    Hey Peter
Like others have said there are some great free WP Tuts you should get into, Youtube is great if you like the follow the video method of learning: eg - http://www.youtube.com/user/nigelum/...uery=wordpress (just an example)

Following a tutorial is better than posting here and having to wait for answers every time you get stuck with WP basics.

You don't need to create a sub-folder (article) inside your control control panel at all. It be achievable by Wordpress itself.

    1. What should I do so that one of my page under articles shows as

+ Create a new category called "Articles".
    - Login to your website admin panel by: http://yoursitename.com/wp-admin
    - Head over to: Posts -> Categories
    - Change your url structure by going to: Settings -> Permalinks -> Post name

+ Create new posts & publish those articles with the Articles category.
    - Add new post by: Posts -> Add New
    - On the right side beside post editor, you will see the Categories Tab. Tick on the Article Category and Publish. You are all set to go!

    2. When I want to create a new blog post, where should I logon? Hostgator or Wordpress?

I think I already answer it in the question 1 above.

If it is Hostgator, what should I do?
If it is Wordpress.org, what should I do?

+ When creating new article, you need to Login to your Site Admin Panel. Ex: http://YourSiteName.Com/wp-admin
+ When adding new Add-On Domain, Create New Email Address, Create Database, and Many More thing, you must login to your Hosting Control Panel.

But, it's as hard as breaking the rock solid stone for OP according to his situation. He even can't decide where to login to publish new post, too.

If you already installed Wordpress on your website you don't need to sign into HostGator or Wordpress.org to publish articles.

All you got to do is type /wp-admin at the end of your website's URL and sign into Wordpress. Once in, click on create post and copy and past your article into the text editor and click publish. But make sure to insert proper tags and a image or two to increase your article's exposure.

It takes some getting used to...

    Good luck!

      Hello Warriors,

Again, thank you, I will follow your instructions and do after coming back from work.

      Hello jtraits,

I understand what you mean. It may be simple for you, but when one is learning a new technical skill, it takes some time and that when I have limited time and resources, it takes more time. I don't do this full time, but with whatever time and resources available to me, I am willing to go step by step and be patient.

      Hello run,

Thanks for your time and answering me clearly. Yes, when I am brand new learning the technical skills, it is not easy to know simple things. Once I learn how to do couple of times, with the help of people like you, it becomes easy later. I will implement your solution tonight when I get back from work.

      Much obliged.
      Peter.
