I started out affiliate marketing a few weeks ago, and decided to go into the golf niche(extremely saturated....but I did not know how to choose in the beginning).

I have been trying like crazy to get traffic to my wordpress blog that has the links to the site...but have been very unsuccessful(52 total views in 3 weeks, 4 click throughs to my affiliate site, 0 sales).

I was wondering if some people can give some advice here....should I go into a tiny niche in order to be able to utilize keywords more in google searches? What is a good method of finding these niches?

cheers,

J

Here are some things to think about...

    A Rule of Thumb:

If you go to a Book Store and find a magazine on the topic...there
is probably a big enough demand to create a business around it.

You might also want to check out DUMMIES.COM. I say that because they
don't pay writers or publish books unless they already KNOW someone wants
to buy it! It'll also give you a good idea if there is market demand.

Now, when you go to dummies.com search in the search bar the word
"dummies" because that's going to give you all the dummies books.

    Also...

Of all my clients over the years, I have found that the
ones making the most money are in these niches:

    Real estate Investing
    Weight Loss
    Network Marketing
    Wealth Building
    Internet Marketing

I guess at the end of the day ONE SENTENCE SAYS IT ALL...

"YOU CAN NEVER BE TOO RICH, TOO THIN, OR TOO BEAUTIFUL!"

Just a few things to help ya out! :-) Matt

I don't want to take you away from the Golf Niche. I've
been told there is alot of money over there. I personally like
the money making markets myself. Personal preference.

If the Golf Niche is something that you truly are passionate
about then you might just want to consider changing or adding
to your current strategy. :-) Matt

    Hi

What Matt said sounds very good advice.

I read in a thread yesterday that another thing to do with a large niche is to dig down and get a smaller sub-niche. For instance, Hotels + Golf.

If I find the thread I'll let you know.

    Hi

Here's the link to a thread Re: Newbie on niche. A bit confused....

    http://www.warriorforum.com/main-int...-confused.html

winebuddy offered some good advice and part of his post said:

"... Also, the niche should be a sector of a mainstream topic - not just "fly fishing" but "tying flies" or "fly fishing in Yellowstone". In other words, a subset of a broader catagory. You'll have a lot better results and much more targeted visitors if you approach it this way....

You could apply the same thinking to the golf niche.

    Another thread worth reading is:

Starting out with a tighter focus might help you get better traffic rankings initially as trying to rank for more competitive keywords is likely not going to help you much. You can start with the smaller less competitive keywords and work your way out from there.

Or you can go all out and pick a few keywords you want to try and rank for and SEOptimize the heck out of your site. Either way, it will still take a bit of time to have any of your seo tactics to start showing any results.

Golf is a profitable niche. I know of many people who enjoy a decent income from it.

Matt hit on the nail. However if you really want to make a go of Golf you can still grab money out of it. However it's seasonal and for affiliate marketing you will find big drop offs. I have some buddies who are in that niche.

If you go at that niche... my 10 million dollar advice is to grab as many emails as you can in a hoover ad or opt in on your wp blog. Build a relationship with them that is all about giving them value. Once you do that... you can sell multiple golf affiliate products over and over to them.... and you can have a long time "customer."

      1. build a list with what you have set up already
      2. build a solid relationship with them
      3. make your own golf product or sell affil ones.

Only problem is that I do not know how to construct a hoover ad or opt in(I actually do not know what they even are). It might be awhile until I am able to figure out how to do those things and how to build an e-mail list/how and what you send people in the list.

The golf niche is very competitive, and very lucrative if you know what you're doing. How are you marketing your blog? You should make sure you SEO it the right way. Target longer tail keywords in your posts - this will allow you to rank more easily for the broader keywords in the future.

I offer SEO tips because I'm assuming that's one of the few ways you're marketing your site. How else are you marketing it? Articles, PPC, video? However you get the word out, make sure you aren't offering all of the answers before the user visits your site. You need to offer just enough that they still want to click your link to get the full story.

I am using a wordpress blog where I write an entry every other day as a review of the product. The I have submitted a few press releases and have been submitting articles to ezine with my blog website on it(i do not get much traffic through these though).

I have been using targeted keywords that I researched on google in my blog entry titles and content which is where I have gotten pretty much all my traffic.

I do not know how to use videos are PPC...I do not even think I would have the equipment for that.

I get a lot of traffic from video marketing. I don't own a video camera or a microphone. I do use my Blackberry as a mic and simply email myself the audio. And I have a screen capture program. That's what I use to make my videos. And you can even use a cheaper version than me. PM me if you're interested in video marketing. I'll respond with the details of my system. I don't want to broadcast it to the world though, sorry.

It is just easy to think off you must get into a big niche because it is very competitive and you can know how long is your knowledge when it comes in taking risk.

  • What is your USP - aka "unique selling point" or "unique selling proposition"? What makes your site stand out from all the other golf sites? What is missing from all the golf sites you visit - and can you implement it on your site?

You see what I'm getting at. It will be much easier to get traffic and ultimately sales, if you stand apart from the rest. It's worth the extra time to really consider what makes your site unique. It pays off big time in the long run.
