How To Market To India for Content Writing/Proofreading Services?

Hello,

I hope someone can provide a little insight here. I see that there is a huge market for content and proofreading coming from India.

I'm based in the US, so my question is if I want to pickup or tap into the India market, does anyone know of some good places to advertise or post profiles targeted directly to India?

I saw that freelancer started freelancer.in, but I'm not sure if someone from the US can signup on that URL. Plus I've read some freelancer.com horror stories about payments being withheld, so I just wanted to see if anyone had any ideas or could point me in the right direction.

Thanks.

I'm sorry but why would you want to market to a country who's workers will undercut any price you are willing to sell ANYTHING at?

Unless you are selling something they cannot do? But you didn't define that.

Sounds like financial suicide to me.

Keep in mind that you might get regular grammar and spelling mistakes for hiring some writers in India but you can also get some good workers too.

Actually I want to offer services to India. And yes (Patrick)I know they undercut the prices.
I don't do what I do for the money. Although I need it to live, I see that there is plenty of opportunity in emerging markets.

I know that most in the US would not do this, but throughout history we all know that the most successful people in the world did virtually the opposite of what everyone else was doing.

I know the prices I set will have to be in line with their standard of living, but I love what i do, so as long as you're doing what you love, it's not really work.

If anyone knows a few sites, etc. that may point me in the right direction, I would appreciate it.

I can do a Google search, but I just wanted to tap in here to see if anyone else had any insight.

Maybe even someone from India has some insight.

There are dozens of Indian classifieds boards and some are very good and really busy. Just Google a search.

In general Indians want to pay 50 cents for a 10000 word article that can do back flips, cook breakfast, pat the dog and run a corporate business, all at the same time.

I agree with Patrick and Laurence, and you certainly have your work cut out for you. On the flip side, however, what you are contemplating does make sense in bulk, and can work depending on your approach. As for where to start... why not right here on the forum.

I don't know where you should advertise, but I wanted to chime in nonetheless. I think that you would have a hard time competing with the prices of Indian content writers. However, I think that there is a possibility to market a service for 'Americanizing' pre-written content.

The smartest and hardest working people I know are Indians (I've interned there twice, my girlfriend is Indian, and I'm heading back for a fourth trip in July). However, the phrasing of Indian-English is different to Western English. For example, it features words that have not been used in the West for a long time such as "thrice" and particular novel phrase structures that you wouldn't find in the West.

The Indian content writers who have communicated with me (a small number) exhibit writing that from my Western perspective is overly dramatized, too formal, and is generally not easy to read in that sense.

Most people I know from India speak 3 languages, which I commend. But there is a bit of a gap between their vocabulary and ours - there might be value in this gap.

I think that Indian companies that are marketing to the Western World would benefit from someone checking that their content is easily digestible by their audience.

Perhaps you meant to say Indian 'Internet Marketers'? IMO, this generalization could be applied to most struggling IMers looking for content, not specifically Indians. In my experience, Indian people are extremely generous. You will find this out if you travel there. You probably will be invited over for dinner by a complete stranger.

Indians work their asses off and know the value of money. They are organized, ambitious, hard working, determined and have a fantastic work ethic. We should consider ourselves lucky that countries such as the US pay a minimum wage that is greater than a commercial lawyer's salary in India.

Hello Joe R Piercey, I wanted to thank you for your generous yet correct observations about content writers in India. It's for people such as you that writing in English for various purposes gives us all such a high. Thanks!

I have worked for an Indian SEO company for many years and they are polite, easy to get on with and pay a very reasonable price for articles. I found them through guru.com as they wanted an Australian native English writer.
You could do a google search for seo companies in India and ask if they need your services.
