Question about replying to a post

(I posted this in the off topic forum a while
back but did not get an answer so I'll try here
as others might find it useful)

Question:

How do you include a quoted reply in a post ?
i.e not just quoting a simply reply
but one which already contains a quote ?

  • Not sure what you're asking so I'll reply a couple ways.

If you just want to quote this post, hit the Quote button.

If you already have a quote in your post and you want to post another quote from someone else, just copy their text and paste it between these commands...
    [ q u o t e ] paste here [/q u o t e] (without the spaces though)

Maybe just like this?? Where you use the quote button for your text and within that use the quote tags for Super Affiliate's quote. Does that make sense?

Yes - that is exactly what I mean. Thanks.

It seems therefore that you do need to copy and paste
to get this to work and there is no forum setting
or option to do this. Correct ?

Correct - as far as I am aware.

OK then so anyone know what "MultiQuote" (next to the quote button) does and how to use it, I guess the name of the button makes it fairly obvious but I just tried it and couldn't figure out how to get it to work, so anyone know?

              Cheers

It took me a few tries even after reading the forum info on it but what I do now is hit multiquote on all the posts I want to include (in the order that you want them) and then on the last one hit the quote button after the multiquote button, and then they all come up.

Yeah, I just copied the quoted text, hit the quote button, then pasted the text between the quote commands I mentioned before. It's not perfect but it works.

Just hit Multiquote (it will highlight itself in red) on all the posts you want to include in your reply... job done!

Yeah, old-fashioned cut & paste seems to be the only way. It's never made sense to me. I would think that if you're quoting someone who includes a quote from someone else, both of those should be quoted when you select the "Quote" option. You shouldn't have to use cut & paste to do it. Seems like a shortcoming in vBulletin.

    Here's a normal comment:

    Comment in Quote Brackets
    Quoted Quote in Brackets
    Code:
Here's a normal comment: (use the "[" bracket)

    {quote]Comment in Quote Brackets{/quote]

    {quote]{quote]Quoted Quote in Brackets{/quote]{/quote]

Hit "QUOTE" then you write your message after the message that you quoted.

    Then, Submit!

That's great "quote", Dan, but don't [quote] me on that!
