Question: Vimeo vs YouTube (plus constructive criticism)

Question is simply as put, Vimeo or YouTube or both?

And while we are at it, should I only keep my "work" videos in my account, and the other car and carshow videos in a different account? Or are they related enough to make sense keeping together?

Quick background... wanted to start making videos about the cars we sell. I guess some online marketing hopefully leading to offline sales.

Finally if any of you would be so awesome as to help a newbie out with some constructive criticism about my videos, presentation and things I can tweak or mistakes I am making, it would be hugely appreciated.

  • They are two different things. If you are hoping to get organic search traffic then having your videos listed on Youtube is going to be your best bet since it gets a lot more traffic and more preference in the search engines since it is owned by Google.

If you are wanting to embed videos on your site and not risk losing your traffic back over to Youtube then using a service like Vimeo is more professional.

    Horses for courses.

My question would be, why not use both? Does it really have to be one or the other?

    • My thoughts exactly... so video isn't quite like text then where you can incur duplicate content penalties for posting on the two sites?

  • Thanks a lot for clearing that up for me
  • I would do both. No harm no foul here. But if your video sizes are around 200MB and above... you may want to consider finding a software to shrink the size of your videos, and submit to other sites also along side Youtube and Vimeo.
