Call this "My 9,000th Post Celebration!"

I offered someone an hour of my time the
other day to help him think through how to
grow his online business.

Unfortunately, he didn't take me up on my
offer so I'm offering his One hour on Skype
to the person who makes the best "How I
would maximise the benefits from one hour
of free coaching" post in this thread...

Go for it!

John

I would use the benefits of this one hour training by advancing and moving my business to a higher level.
I am making some good money online but not enough to do it full time, i need that extra help and advice from someone that can see the bigger picture as i run this business on my own i am too close to see what i am doing wrong and how i could improve it.
I currently work full time and spend about 6 hours a day on my online business as well.

      Hi John,

Great idea and congrats on your 9000th post!

I would maximize the benefits of the one hour call by extracting a clear plan out of what I'd learned, repeat it back to you and then take action on it. The verification that the time had been maximized would be when I reported back to you after X amount of time with what I did and what the results were.

No point in teaching a guy to fish if he never brings home any fish right?

      Thanks

John, in my case, it would be easy...maybe too easy.

I would spend the first 10 or 20 minutes (however long it took) filling you in
on my game plan. I would cover it in as much detail as I could.

At the end I would simply say...

      Fill In The Missing Pieces.

I would then have a clear pinpoint idea of what is lacking, missing, wrong...

Or...if I really have it all down and can confidently go ahead and execute
      everything.

This way, there is no wasted time. There is no guesswork. There is
nothing but pure analysis and then direct action.

Knowing where I want to be and what I want to do, will make your job
that much easier to get me there.

Point it, and I hope everybody is getting this, your coach can only take
you as far as your own foundation will allow him.

If you walk into that call with something like, "Well John, I really don't
have any plan, have no idea what I'm doing, but I know I want to make
some money on the Internet doing something" how helpful do you think
      John is going to be?

You can only do so much with what you have to work with.

So, my suggestion to anybody who truly wants to take John up on his
offer, is to have a clear cut idea of what it is you want to learn and why
before you even respond to this thread.

That will ultimately give you the best chance of making the most of the
time that this man is generously willing to give to you.

And John, congratulations on 9,000 posts.

First things first...congratulations an hitting 9000 posts! Thats an amazing landmark to hit and I would assume means you have already provided this community a huge benefit.

For me personally I feel like I am on the cusp of success. I generally understand how the internet works. I know that internet marketing is not some "get rich quick" endeavor; I know it will take hard work and dedication to cross the bridge I am currently stuck on.

I think my problem is that I know too much. I have researched everything from advanced blog linking strategies to video production and distribution to social website marketing and everything in between. Every time I start heading in one direction I will stumble upon something else and allow myself to get side tracked and bogged down with additional research. It seems as if I spend 10x the amount of time doing research as I do actually producing content or actively makreting what I ahve to offer. Its like I am so overwhelmed by knowledge that I often find myself paralyzed into inaction.

My goal in working with you would be to determine exactly where my time would be best spent to achieve the goals I have developed for myself.

I'll present to you the big obstacle I'm facing in my business now clearly... which is
sapping my energy and power. (in 30 minutes)

Gain input from you, act on it and get back to you with a new set
of results. (and spent the next 30 minutes gaining new input from you again)

I believe by using this double loop learning, to have a set of results
as reference, can the full 1 hour coaching be maximized. = )

            Hi John

That person was MAD to waste such a valuable opportunity!!

I would grab it with both hands.

I only just saw this thread and see that Steve and a few others have echoed what I wanted to say about filling in the missing pieces.

However, after thinking about it for a bit longer, you have such a wealth of experience that I would just listen to what you have to say. I would want to soak up every bit of information and pearl of wisdom that you could fit in to three quarters of an hour.

Why three quarters on a hour?

Because I would want the last 15 minutes to run a cast iron action plan past you based on the information you gave me.

I would want to show you that the time spent with me was worth it and that I wasn't just wanting to have my ears tickled and then do nothing with the information.

The information in the coaching session would allow me to hit the ground running and steer my business in a different direction if I am heading the wrong way.

I would value an opportunity like this very much and would take full advantage of such a generous offer. The hour spent with me would be time well spent and you would be able to watch my business develop knowing that I took on board everything you said and applied it.

Thanks for such a generous offer John.

            Best wishes

            Gary

PS. Congratulations on your 9000th post and thanks for sharing your experience and knowledge so freely.

Wow! 9000+ posts! Congratulations! And, frankly, I think the person who turned down your offer is crazy. I'd be thrilled to have this kind of opportunity!

So, what would I do with it? Well...

I have a plan in place for a long-term sustainable business which I'm building in stages. My goal is to make enough money to completely change my financial future (I have specific amounts and timeline targets, but I'm not going into that here ).

I'm in the process of setting up multiple forms of income and have more planned for the future (membership sites, my own products, affiliate sales, etc.) since I don't want to build dependence on any one income stream into the plan. That, to me, is a fundamental weakness. I don't want all my eggs in one basket.

I would spend approximately 15 minutes laying out where I wish to be, what I plan to do to get there and what I've already done to achieve my goals. Then I would love to hear your feedback, guidance and suggestions for improvement to my plan.

At the end of the hour, I'd lay out any action items for improvements to the plan and also assign them completion dates for certain milestones through to completion.

I know I have certain challenges to overcome and I'm certain I'm missing some key issues, as well. Perhaps that would be the greatest benefit of the coaching session for me - getting some experienced, outside advice for things I may be missing so I don't have as many nasty little surprises along the way.

Here are a few challenges I'd love to have some guidance on:

    • review timeline (Is it reasonable?)
    • review monetization strategy (Am I missing any good opportunities?)
    • review estimates of income (Are they on target/reasonable?)
    • review traffic strategy (Where can I improve?)
    • review my sites (Just a couple to get a feel for where I am currently.)
    • review model efficiency for the following:
      • Am I logically building on what's already done rather than repeating steps?
      • Best use of resources - am I exploiting what I have to the max?
      • Automation strategies
      • Outsourcing
    • Do I have a good conceptual idea of what I'm doing?
    • Is my plan reasonable/doable?
    • Security - I so do not want to lose my business to hackers, etc.
    • Overall am I on the right track?
    So there you have it!

***I realize the scope outlined here is pretty large for a single one hour coaching session. I'd be MORE than happy to distill it down to applying this to one new income stream, then I can extrapolate from there. :-)***

This is a very generous offer, no matter who gets it. Thanks for the contribution!

    Cindy

How I would maximise the benefits from one hour
    of free coaching with John..

    Simple:

I'd shut up, listen, and act on every bit of advice or tasks you give me.

I'd record the skype conversation so I can go back and see if there was any advice/task I missed the first time through.

I'd report back as requested, and give you any updates you require.

Did I win? Just say yes!

In life, no matter what it is that you do - what's important is that you believe in it. I believe in what I do and I know that eventually, I can succeed. I greatly value other people's advice. John, if you were to choose me for your coaching, I want to be able to eventually send you an e-mail later on to let you know that I have indeed succeeded. It doesn't matter whether it will take me 8 weeks, or 6 months until I can do so. What I know is that I will have listened to the valuable advice of someone who succeeded before me. And I can do it too.

I would maximize the benefits by evaluating not simply how your coaching is going to benefit my business, but how it is going to benefit me. And I believe there's a lot to take away from a such a lesson in this regard. After all, you can't just always rely on other people - you have to step forward and put things into motion yourself.

    Hi John,

I read the thread where you offered an hour of you time to help the
person get started in the right direction. It was very kind of you to do so.

Having only one hour of your time, I believe I would pick your brain about
testing/tracking marketing methods. And with your permission would also like
to record the conversation and possibly even have it transcribed so that
other Warriors could learn from it too.

I've recently set up an account via BlogTalkRadio but have not yet
attempted to use it. This would be perfect opportunity and also a very good
topic to help others understand the methods/techniques involved in the proverbial
Test, Test, Test and Test some more theory.

Of course the audio/transcript would be offered Free to other Warriors
and could help mark the mile stone of your reaching the 9000 posts here
    on the Warrior Forum.

    Congrats!

    Have a Great Day!

I have spoken with John many, many times, and he is a fount of knowledge.

For someone who is look to get the most out of this, let me give you a suggestion.

Have a plan, some already have said they would ask a question or explain their plan and let John talk. That is good, but you will miss out on a lot if you do just that.

Imagine keeping silent, when John said something, and that something triggers your mind in a new direction. Keeping silent will mean you miss the opportunity.

It might be something small to John but to you it will open up a whole new way of working.

Stop and say, "You mentioned this, can we talk more because I'm thinking........"

The whole point of these calls is not only to having coaching but to brainstorm. Brainstorming is one the most important thing you can do for your business.

This call could teach you how to brainstorm and take thing to the nth degree. It is a skill which needs to be developed, and sometimes all it takes is one thought to move you forward.

The best way to benefit is not to go in with a pre-determined plan that this is how my business is going to run, now fill in the gaps, but to have some basic questions and let the brainstorming and coaching commence.

Let me give you an example of what I mean, and this wasn't a call with John. We had someone ask us if we had any ideas about xxxx which he was thinking as a project. We talked about it, and saw it was far bigger than his original idea, it was something that could be developed in a completely different way. The person isn't so set in his this is my plan what should I do, but let's see how we can make this happen, because he sees the bigger picture.

That is great advice and full of wise words.

When I was considering my reply to John my mind was racing as what I would do -should I talk, should I let him talk...I had a real dilemma.

However, we only have an hour with John and I imagine that the time would whizz by.

I had a vision of myself frantically taking notes, trying to hang on to everything he was saying and my brain going into over-drive as it was trying to apply what he was saying to my business.

It was a toughie and I am not sure if I gave the sort of answer that John was looking for.

In the end I just wanted to assure him that no matter what he had in mind, the hour spent with me would not be wasted (there is nothing worse than dedicating your precious time with somebody only to find that they ignore or don't act on the advice given).

Thanks again Bev....wish you had posted this BEFORE I jumped in with my reply LOL

I was thinking along the same lines. I've only had three coaches in my life- a baseball coach in highschool, a guy in a black hat that yelled at me all the time in Basic Military Training, and a master instructor in Kenpo Karate.

Business coach etiquette? I know next to nothing about this, or what to expect.

My main task is listening. Then I can have some Idea what to expect, and guide by questions where they don't interfere with what John is trying to accomplish.

    John,

Thanks for giving us all the chance to work with you! Now, as for how I would make the most of the hour of coaching:

Personally, I'd like you to teach me how to think in bigger terms. I'd like to understand how the top marketers think and how they develop their strategies and plans. I seem to be stuck at a certain level and would desperately like to understand how you see things. One thing I've noticed is there is a different mindset that the most successful marketers have, and I'd like you to help me develop it. Right now it seems that I'm suffering from tunnel vision and would like to know how to broaden my horizons, to see the bigger picture. This, more than anything, would help me make that quantum leap forward in my business. There would of course be some talk about the "nuts and bolts" aspect, since I think that theory without action is useless. It's all well and good to have great ideas and be a big thinker, but if you don't know how or aren't willing to put it into action, then your ideas are wasted.

Let me see if I can sum it all up with an analogy.

    We've all heard people say:

"Don't just give me a fish, teach me how to fish"

    I'm saying:

"Teach me how to fish, commercially. Show me how to land more than one at a time"

    Thanks again for the opportunity!

What a rare and fantastic offer, very kind indeed.

I think Michael's answer was very thoughtful to other warriors giving a chance for all to benefit if he was chosen!

I have to be honest, I really wouldn't know where to start with asking questions so I think I would just ask John how he started and how he managed to progress so successfully, no doubt that would open up many subjects worth discussing giving me insight into areas that I wouldn't even think of to ask about.

    Good luck everyone

I'll take a shot at this.

I'm working hard on the online launch of "me". I've got a plan, and a detailed outline of what I want to do and how I want to do it. I've got a time line too.

What I have in mind isn't just about making money. It's also about giving as much value as I can to my potential clients. Of course I'm interested in the money side of things, but that will come with the building of real relationships and the supply of original, useful materials that I'm creating.

An hour with you would help push my thinking to the edge. I'd expect you to try your best to shoot my ideas down in flames.

Help me see where my plans work and where they just plain don't. Help me fine tune the order of things, and brainstorm the next stage and the stage after that.

That's what I'd be hoping for. A no-holds-barred look at the launching of "me".

    Good luck to everyone.

    Thanks for offering this, John.

Heck, just creating my response was a useful exercise since it forced me to summarize my goals and expectations. That's always a great way to sharpen focus a bit.

It's gonna be fun! I'm looking forward to learning a lot. And, karma being what it is, this means sooner or later I'll have to do something nice/useful for someone as well. Hopefully sooner.

    Warrior Forum rocks!

Well, I just wrapped up my free coaching session with John Taylor. All I can say is...
    WOWZEE WOW WOW WOW!

The person who gave up his/her opportunity for a free coaching session with John cost themselves dearly!

It was fun, too. John was a delight and the information he shared with me was top notch! I learned so many things I didn't know before. And that new knowledge will put money directly into my pocket - it was that valuable!

I cannot thank John enough for this opportunity. It really helped me focus and tweak my business plan in such a way that I'm much more likely to reach my income goals. Truly amazing stuff!

While I'm not going to share all the wonderful things he told me (yes, I'm selfish that way ), I will share this powerful tip.

Take the time to sit down and map out exactly where you wish to be in a given time frame. THEN (this is key) take the time to map out how much it will cost you, either in terms of time or money...or both.

That little gem, while seemingly simplistic, it will go far towards helping you decipher exactly what needs to happen for each of you to achieve your business/financial goals.

Again, I say a heartfelt THANK YOU to John for offering this contest. The next time he does something like this, my advice is for people to jump all over it. It will be well worth the effort!
