How would you monetize a popular music fan site?
My business partner and I have recently acquired a very high value domain, essentially it's a "bandname".com domain.
This "band name" receives over 5 million searches a month on Google, and we own the exact match domain.com The actual band has had to use bandnamemusic.com <
We are ranking the site for the "band name" and are seeing some huge numbers in traffic allready. We are obviously aiming for the #1 spot and look forward to tapping out a majority of the actual traffic.
The question is, how can we make the most from this traffic. We estimate to be able to reach 2-3 million unique per month once we hit top spots.
We've contemplated building a members area VIP backend, where we would provide the latest in pictures, wallpapers, updates, music streaming, VIP ticket giveaways etc etc.
Other ideas are:
Advertising/Adsense
Listing building + Email marketing
Eccomerce - selling fan merchandise which we will patent and manufacture in China - then dropship anywhere.
Ticket sale commissions
I don't think this is anything to ground breaking though, and with such a huge targeted fan base and very loyal follower traffic, we should be able to monetize a bit better.
