When a thread is deleted

Hi Warriors,

Can anyone tell me what happens when a thread is deleted? Do you get a message from a mod or something letting you know what you did wrong?

Yesterday I made a thread telling warriors about my near-future plans of going to Brazil and after that IM market. And I also linked to my blog where I would be documenting this experience.

The guys who commented seemed to really like the idea and blog and said they were looking forward to hear more from me.

BUT today when I went to see if anyone had asked anything in the thread I could not find it.

Does this mean it was deleted? was it because I linked to my blog?

Thanks for any answers!

Best,

Edipo

It gets a full naval funeral, burial at sea with the partner of its own choice, and a 21-gun salute.

Normally not. And sometimes a thread's even deleted without the person who started it having done anything wrong at all. It's really hard to draw conclusions about why it's happened. But the Forum has 600,000 members and few, unpaid moderators and they couldn't possibly start giving out explanations in each instance.

There are comments about the situation here: http://www.warriorforum.com/main-int...bers-read.html

Links to your own site, in your own posts, are odds-against to survive if people "report" them, really. It's too easy for that to be abused "promotionally" so it does tend to be frowned on. It doesn't mean that you committed any gross crime, and it doesn't even mean that anyone wondered whether you were using the forum for your own blog's publicity, or whatever. So don't worry about it. It's more "general policy", and understandably so.

No, not necessarily for that reason. But that's one possibility (and maybe quite a good one?). Best not to post it again, anyway (see the link above).

If you want people here to see it, you can maybe include it in your signature-file (as long as you don't draw attention to your signature-file when you're posting)?

It's a good link to read. It also suggests not to ask about why a thread is deleted. Of which this thread could be classified as. I wonder if anyone has ever posted a thread asking why his thread was deleted, and then that thread was deleted as well, and then posting another thread asking why the thread talking about his deleted thread was deleted?

Yeah it was probably deleted. This thread might be too. It's technically against the rules to ask why a thread was deleted.

This is a member moderated forum, so if several people report your post, it can be deleted. No matter what the content is really.

But linking to your site is generally frowned upon.

It was deleted because you linked to your blog. Dropping links other than newsy outside links for reference is not allowed. The mods don't give explanations. It would be far too time consuming for them to do that.

It seems you already knew why your thread was deleted and that linking to your blog was not the right thing to do.

That's 99% likely the reason as to why your thread was deleted. Can you imagine how useful this forum would be if it were just full of posts from people linking back to their own sites.

Signatures are there for that reason. If you want to link to your site do it there.

      Arnold,
I wonder if anyone has ever posted a thread asking why his thread was deleted, and then that thread was deleted as well, and then posting another thread asking why the thread talking about his deleted thread was deleted?
Yep. Happens every month or so. Those posts don't last long, and the poster usually gets a ban for a week or two.

By the time they get to that point, they're usually frothing at the mouth, spewing venom, and shouting about "censorship." There are often Godwin infractions involved.

They want to be able to say what they want, the way they want, anywhere they want, without interference, and regardless of the consequencs to others. If you deny them that, they throw tantrums. Just like the 4-year old who screams in the store when Mommy says "No candy till we get home."

I often wonder if they try the same things in public places where they're actually physically present, and can be shunned or asked to leave if they behaved badly.

And yeah... they probably do, if they don't see anyone with the obvious physical force available to stop them, and they don't think they'll ever want to go back again. They probably would. But if they value their experience of the place enough to want to go back, they'll curb their impulses enough to fit the expected code of behavior. And every public place has one.

Sometimes, like with this thread, the questions are asked in a reasonable way. A sincere effort to understand. That's okay, even if those threads also usually get deleted. The answers are posted in a thread labeled "New members: Read This." It's not like the rules are hard to find...

If it's your thread then you run the gamut of emotions . . .

anger - because it's your thread

sadness - because you had a few "thanks" in it

grief - because you had 12 posts in the thread and your post count is low

indignity - because it was an expertly crafted piece

resentment - because it always seems to happen to you

hostility - because at times like this you hate those fcuking mods

failure - because nothing you do seems to work out right

despair - because that tasty old bird Alexa replied to you

grief - because you missed most of the 3rd quarter of the ball game checking for replies

happiness - because at least your post with all the typos in that someone quoted, has gone

Unfortunately no, but if it's the last thing on your mind before you go to sleep you're liable to dream of mods on the rampage brandishing varying weapons with your forum name scrawled on them in blood. It will also make your first coffee of the day the next morning seem less invigorating than usual. Strange that.

      LMFAO.

That's mighty funny, and largely true for most.
