I want to give back a little

I remember when I first started IM. To this day I haven't given back much because I have felt I really have nothing to offer. I ask a lot more questions than I answer for others. This is again because I have yet to see myself as successful.

However I have earned enough through IM to quit a full time job and live off of the internet for the last few years. Of course there have been some bumps along the way but I am holding on and adapting.

That is what I want to talk about today. The need to press on and adapt. I have a friend that wanted to get into the IM world and I agreed to show him a few things that I wish I had known. He started out great with a good domain name and content. BUT he didn't see any income above a few dollars in the first few days. So he gave up.

I believe this is what happens to a lot of would be IMers. They start out with dreams of hitting it big right out of the gate and get discouraged when they find out it takes time and work.

When I look back on my journey I feel the need to stress to people how long it took before I found what worked. I spent 3 years with no income from IM before I started seeing anything. This was because it takes time to learn what works and what doesn't. You can not expect to make it big day one.

So to re-stress my point I want to encourage people not to give up. The ability to press on through failure is how all great men succeed.

That's unfortunate that your friend gave up right away but I guess he didn't have the desire and dedication like you, I and many other members here. For most I would say it is a very long road. A road with many bumps, twists and turns. But in the end if you stay on that rough road the reward is well worth it!

Glad it has worked out well for you. I've found that I try helping people as well because I know what amazing benefits can be had from successfully selling products online but they don't want to get it. They're not ready to understand it and flat out just dont get it.

A few days? I am going on two and a half months. Two and a half months with my current plan. I have tried so many things before this that it would make your head spin. I just wonder, what is the difference between the people making money and me?

Are there a lot of people that say they are making money, but really are not? Because, quite frankly, I am finding this business somewhat difficult.

Here is the way I am looking at it. I know (believe) there are people making millions of dollars online. I am striving to do the same thing. But, I expect to fall short, but, that is okay, because if I only make thousands, I would be happy.

I dunno....is there luck involved? What is it? I can't find it. It can be discouraging. The difference this time for me, is that I am going to stick with it. Come hell or high water, I am taking this niche site of mine and running with it.....in the past, I used to give up, not this time.

    So lets see what happens.

Like I said it takes time but keep pushing.

    • Very encouraging post and a great way to give back to this dedicated forum.

It is too bad your friend dropped out so quickly, but IM simply wasn't for him. It takes a very stubborn sort (in a good way) to succeed in this business.

Keep up the good work and much more success to you.

I believe you need resilience to succeed in any business, not just IM. Whatever you do for a living, it will probably take years to be able to do it really well and surrender is not an option if you are serious about it.

Not really luck. There are people with different mentalities, focus, dedication and skill sets. I guess the ones with the correct attributes will succeed the most? Just like everything else in life, actually.

To a degree. A lot of people can get a job and be successful at it. But, even less people can work for themselves and be successful at it.

I believe mikelmraz was right. One of the biggest problems people have when it comes to working for themselves is a lack of dedication and motivation to learn. Almost anyone can be told what to do by a boss but it takes more effort to be your own boss.

You don't have anyone to blame for your failures but yourself when you have no boss over you. BUT equally true is that you have no one that can take the credit for your work when you are your own boss too.

I think that some people just don't have the drive to be successful on their own terms though. That is why there are owners of companies and then there are employees. The employee only wants to put in his 9-5 and get paid a set wage...the owner puts in whatever it takes and doesn't limit their income.

Just to say, I am so happy for you to have finally quit your job and go full time IM. For me it's still miles away, but I wont give up! I am taking action everyday and I know I will succeed. Thanks for your sharing bro

Yeah, I think persistence is a biggy here. All the successful IM'ers are probably very persistent people.
