Is there a good website to find clients to write for? I have been using sites like iwriter and textbroker but would rather get with clients. Anyone know of a site?

"Warrior Forum" isn't bad: a few hundred (or thousand) writers have certainly found clients here.

You really need to have a way for potential clients to come to your site, Curtis (you will need a site of your own, even if it's only a little blog with samples, testimonials, introducing yourself, prices, and so on. All your competitors have that, and you'll really be hugely disadvantaged, without one).

Get your own site and market your services there. You're on the right website right now (warrior forum) that will show you how to market anything online. Take these teachings and apply them to your own site. I'm sure you've probably seen websites where people offer their internet marketing services. Your writing services business is no different. Put up a site and sell what you have.

Constant Content is the best website to sell your articles because they get a lot of traffic, but they are too demanding.

Their guidelines are complicated. You must be a good writer. You have to study the English language and study their guidelines. The beginning is very hard. They won't approve your articles because of an insignificant mistake. You will have to be patient and work on your articles until they will be perfect.

The beginning is hard, but if you are a serious writer you will bear this difficult beginning and persist.

You should write articles about topics in demand. I was selling there only articles about internet marketing (two years ago). I saw that it was very easy to sell whatever is related to internet marketing online, but this is not my field, I got bored and I abandoned this practice, even though I was easily selling my articles for around $20 each one. They were very nice and inexpensive. I could ask for more, but then I would have to wait.

You can also sell articles for around $50 - $80 but you have to wait a long time for the right customers when your articles are expensive. You should write short 500 word articles and sell them at good prices so that you may easily sell your articles if you want to make money fast.

I had no time to keep writing for them because I have an online business and I saw that it was too much to work for both, but if you want to make money writing you should seriously try to sell your articles at Constant Content. Visit their forum and try to learn everything you can about this website. All their writers are satisfied with the money they make.

FYI; "great" writers in the financial arenas, particularly for stock market trading and investing, can command (and get) some rather high rates. Consider advertising here on the forum, college students majoring in these fields, industry-related forums, publications, etc.

Have you tried freelancer or elance. They are the good ones.
Freelancer.com is the perfect site to find online jobs. They give you a platform to showcase your specific skills to the world.

I would type freelance writer or writing into Google.. Or you can invest $20 in to your business and put up an ad in the Warriors for hire section.

I get a decent amount of orders from this forum and Fiverr. The best paying ones are ad firms though.

Fiverr offers a great outlet to sell your writing services.

But you might need to take on more work than usual, just to get some orders and good reviews.

Once buyers see what you can do, you alter your gig and cope at pace you are comfortable with.

In addition, you should really consider setting up your own writing company and buying services from the online traffic and advertising categories of Fiverr.

That's what I presently do and it is worth it.

Don't just look for sites that will drip feed you info. There are lots of ways to gain clients, so I'll put my top three methods here:

    1. Warm contacts - Contact sites that you know accept freelancers. There is a yearly writers market book that comes out with hundreds of clients that select freelance writers regularly.

You can also do something a bit sneaky: follow the trail of breadcrumbs left by other freelancers. Have a look at their portfolio and see who they've written for, then send these clients your pitch.

    2. Job boards and jobsites - Tons of freelance writing related job boards and sites, such as problogger, freelancewritinggigs, mediabistro etc have numerous jobs posted every day. Have a look and select carefully.

    3. Cold Contacting - If you have expertise in a particular area or niche, you can cold contact clients who may want/need your expertise. This is going to require a very tight query which will explain in detail the level of your expertise and exactly why you writing for them will be beneficial.

    Hope this helps.

    Cheers,

I consistently make around $500 a week on eLance.

Work around 20 hours a week on there to make that.

If I get bored enough and want to put in more hours (or fall short on work):

I'll email SEO/Web Design companies directly and offer my services.

Here's my thoughts on other sites (I've written full time for 3 years):

WordGigs (hit or miss as far as having work, low pay)
However, they will literally hire ANYONE to write for them.

Textbroker (they want too much for too little)

iWriter (very bogus system in my opinion)

Guru (very good site/decent money but lack of work)

oDesk (lots of work but very little money in general)

These are just the ones I'm familiar with.

Typically, I get $15 to $20 per 500 word article on eLance.

I make about $50 a day doing that but...

I have 2 or 3 ongoing jobs where I do blog/social media management

That puts me at around $500 a week working 2 or 3 days.

    Good luck!

Your own site is the best solution. Promote your site, and optimize for organic trafic, offer some free review of your services and build slowly some relationships with your clients.

I have heard many negative reviews about freelancer.com. Has anyone worked on this platform? Can you tell me more about it?
    {{ DiscussionBoard.errors[8419282].message }}
  • Create your own site to start with. Then also use freelance sites like eLance and oDesk (DO NOT try to compete with the lowest price writers on these sites!!!). Also, warrior forum is a great place to find clients, as is Digital Point.

Go for private clients rather than content mills if you want to make good money.
