Most hosts have one click install for Wordpress on the cPanel through Fantastico or Sofaculous, but it's recommended to manually install WordPress yourself as it is more secure than the auto installers.

Most IM'ers recommend HostGator, but there are cheaper hosts which still have fast reliable servers with a high uptime. Really, with HostGator your paying so much just to get live chat support. Not worth it.

How many monthly visitors do you expect your 4-5 sites to get, and how large are the sites?

That's easy to say until you need support. Then try to get a response from the cheaper hosts. I have been using hostgator for years. They have helped me with issues that wasn't even their problem, but they are always there to help the best they can.

A lot of cheaper hosts have poor support, but some have excellent support that is why you need to research in advance from non-biased sources.

Also, many support questions can be found online or on forums without even contacting support unless you have a specific issue regarding your site(s).

The best thing I can recommend is to do lots of research and remember that just about any business will have a few people that will complain no matter what, but when you find hundreds of unsatisfied customers, (((

Here is my secret to finding a good hosting company, )

Web Hosting Talk - The largest, most influential web hosting community on the Internet

But beware, you will find dirt cheap prices and really high prices and some in-between prices, make sure you know who your dealing with and how long they have been in business, the last thing you want is to get into an account and next month you find out the guy that was running your server is on vacation with your money.

Out of these four definitely HostGator. Depending on your needs you should also check out some other options too like Webhostinghub, InMotion Hosting, StableHost.

In order for us to give you an informed suggestion you'll need to tell us more about your websites. I'm choosing LiquidWeb Cloud SSD Server hosting for an upcoming website but just because I need the database access speed/security. If you are just doing basic Wordpress sites then Hostgator would be a fine choice.

Do you have any sort of technical knowledge? Tbh for 4-5 sites I'd actually prefer to have my own dedicated server, as then I have full control over everything, and if I want to grow to 15 sites I can still do that.

And with current prices, decent hosting for the 5 hosts is gonna be $10-$15 per month anyway (and I've actually found servers for $29.99 per month, but that sounds dodgy on BestHosting.org ). More like $99.99 per month, but I think it's worth it in the long run.

(it's also nice to learn linux anyway)

stay away from GoDaddy. If you want shared hosting then hostgator or bluehost are good, if you want VPS then i can personally vouch for beyond hosting. Their support team is incredible, anything i need they set up for me. I've moved all of my sites over to them and couldn't be happier

Hostgator sucks!!! Do not use Hostgator if you have any number of accounts on their reseller plan. I've got 50 small Wordpress sites on a reseller plan (Aluminum) with them, and I've probably spent 40 hours on the phone with them in the last 2 to 3 months trying to fix problems with my sites. I've been on the phone for 50 minutes right now trying to find out why it's taking 30 to 50 seconds for every one of my sites to load.

They have tried to blame it on not having an optimized Wordpress site, which is complete BS. I cloned one of my sites with WP Twin and put it on my new reseller account with Bluehost and it loads in 2 seconds. Meanwhile, Hostgator keeps telling me that it's my Wordpress sites are not optimized. BS.

I've had a reseller plan with Hostgator for 5 years and never had a problem until about 3 months ago. Now it's almost a daily event that I have to call in and spend 15 to 30 minutes on the phone trying to find out what's wrong. They've gone way downhill.

Try Bluehost. I'm sure they are better.

I agree, Hostgator is not very good, was having issues with Blue Host and went to hostgator, hostgator blocked a client website (geographically) and we had to contact the company to learn why his site was blocked in the florida area, but not the ohio area, they fixed it after 2 hours or so, but no warning and even the level 1 (initial) tech support from hostgator had no idea what happened but when escalated to next level we learned hostgator was responsible and fixed it, but the client's site goes down without any notification! hostgator-BIG thumbs down

I've written extensively about each of them for many review sites over the past years. Personally, I use HostGator and will NEVER recommend Go-Daddy hosting. Go-Daddy is simply not very good for the price and HostGator is far better.

Yahoo Small Business is okay, but just like Go-Daddy, you're dealing with a company not specializing in hosting. 1 and 1 cannot hold a candle to HostGator, either.

For my money, HostGator is the best choice out of the four you listed. You can start with shared hosting and if you feel like you need to upgrade, they provide both VPS and dedicated hosting, as well.

Like most I would have to say Hostgator. I have a dedicated, and a shared account that I have had since day one. Customer support is excellent.

I did have a bit of a problem recently with them migrating my dedicated server to be inline with their software updates, and it caused enormous problems. All the errors were fixed in the end, but it dragged on for about a week. Other than this, I haven't had a problem with Hostgator in 6 years.

I've also used LiquidWeb.com, which I highly recommend, customer support is excellent there too.

GoDaddy is not a hosting company

I would say from my experience HostGator is okay. They got good up time, an okay support, but if you exceed your monthly bandwidth they would bring your website down immediately which pretty bad compare to other companies that usually will notify you earlier and ask you to upgrade it.

So hostgator seems the best bet. Are there any cheaper alternatives which are still fairly reliable and good? $7.96 pm is there current price for the baby plan.

Saw a local hosting site where hosting is free if I get the domain from them or around $2 a month. Exchange rate is about 10:1. http://www.cybersmart.co.za/hosting.cgi

Stablehost is a cheaper alternative and it has strong reviews on places such as webhostingtalk. You can get a 50% off coupon for the Stable plan which is $5.95/month, so after the 50% it's under $3/month.

The disk space limit is 7GB/month, but if your sites are not very large then it should suffice.

I moved to Stablehost about a week ago. It's very fast. It certainly seems faster than HostGator's baby plan. A page only takes about 1 second to load.
