(Junk-Rehashed)The Kirby Coincidence
I have a short yet simple story that happened the other day, and it brought me back to all of these post.
My girlfriend wanted to buy a Kirby Vacuum, instantly I was completely the idea. To me they are just a high-priced vacuum with a massive unprofessional sales team. Being in sales before I didn't even want to sit in on the sales pitch, so I left. ( I have seen it before ) Anyway ..
After the sales pitch she calls and says that she really wanted to buy it (what initially started out as she just wanted a free cleaning). Of course my answer was no. So she called them and told them to come pick it back up, when the lady got there we were told a sob story about the guy selling it and how he could lose his job due to this being his 3rd return in X amount of months, and that she could give us this spectacular deal at $750. The price started over 2k worked its way down to 1k and now $750.
Anyway long story short, the Kirby does everything they claimed, so that wasnt really a problem. The problem from my conclusion is the target market the shady sales pitch and just all around terrible marketing.
I dont need a vacuum that does all of that, and even if I did I could purchase separate tools to do the major things like vacuum and carpet cleaning for half the price.
When I first had a Kirby person come to me was years ago, and nothing has changed other than I can buy top quality products that do the same thing for a lower price than back then. They even still start out with pricing the Kirby the same 2k
When I got home and asked my girlfriend to show me all what it did she could only explain everything, but couldnt show me how. To me the target market is for people with disposable money, someone that wants to show off the brand or price for certain objects.
Point being I guess, all the rehashed or junk material may not be made for the people buying them. Maybe their target market is for the new marketer. All the junk may be the terrible sales pitch, and looking more into the product and doing research before believing the hype would help a lot in purchasing decisions .
This ended up entirely longer than I expected, and I think I even lost my self in typing as its late for me. I hope my point is able to be made lol
