I recently sold a website to a client, but then he was mad because I did not get him the sql file fast enough, so he made me refund him, but now he won't give me the site back. What can I do?

These situations make me laugh. It's almost as if we are dealing with toddlers here.

Listen, you tell him to give your site back within 24 hours or you are telling his mom.

You should try to negotiate with your client first. If you are no longer the domain owner, your best option is to call your web host if your client won't cooperate and explain the situation. You will still need to verify your identity but this is easy if you are really the customer on their record and paying the bills.

Use your billing information to secure your domain back through your host.

If you can as well attach screenshot of your conversation i think you should have a 50/50
    chance, better than not trying..

Why is everyone laughing about this?

Look, if you still have any control over your site
get it locked down in anyway you can & FAST!

Try to resolve the situation best you can with the client
    & find that file.

Otherwise get in touch with the site owners at the site you
made the deal & see if they can help.

Hope you sort this issue & I wish you best of luck!

    Regards
    Gavin

I also don't think this is funny...Kinda sad sense of humour here.

Anyways, if you transferred the domain, then i'm not sure you can get that back easily. The website files itself should be secure, either you've taken a backup or you can ask your hosting company.

Either way, if you get your domain back then you're fine so contact your domain registrar asap!

If you have transfered your domain and then issued the refund without getting it back, may God help you. I don't think advises like complain to your host / his mom (sorry, couldn't resist) would help. Only practical solution is to sue him for cheating and you decide how feasible it is.

If the domain isn't transfered, not much of a problem. You have the backups / live site so keep on using it. Ocassionally check for any copies of your site (by googling any sentence with quotes, from your site) and if you find any, make a duplicate content complaint to Google and copyright notice to his host.
