What's the best way or place for newbies to find OFFLINE LOCAL help (mentor / personal coach)?

Brendon Zahrndt mentioned to me earlier that I should try and find or get a mentor someone or anyone that can guide me for free. He said the free part is quite difficult but not impossible.

I agree the free part is very difficult although not impossible.

But what about Local options?

I personally think offline Local options are the most important because if I could meet with someone on a more frequent basis to get the right coaching, mentoring and advice it will save me a lot of time and frustrations.

The only site I am aware of at this time for looking to meet with someone locally that may have already know how to properly make money online is at MeetUp.com

There were 24 results at meetup for my area when I ran a search. Not many have upcoming meetups though, guess I may need to be more patient or try contacting members of those group directly to see if they are willing to meet and talk with a newbie like me (and hopefully not expect me to pay them huge amount of dollars out of my own pocket). I'm just trying to find local help here, not pay for advice locally unless if it was a consulting firm then they probably will charge me a fee and require me to schedule an appointment, etc.

I even tried Craigslist before and I got nothing, no replies. I posted in the Community section there asking if anyone was willing to meetup and talk, give advice, etc. but I got nothing, maybe I post it in the wrong section, I don't know.

So any other ideas? Any advice is much appreciated.

    Using Meetup.com isn't a bad idea.

You may want to try the Warrior Forum's very own mastermind group section to see if there's anyone close to you OR you could form your own and then also create a Meetup.com group.

Playing devil's advocate here, but wouldn't tools where you could do both chat and video conferencing, like Skype or Tango, eliminate the need for the offline option?

It really depends on your area, I live in Southern California and there are lots of meets ups and stuff here.

It will be hard to find someone to coach and mentor you in a person for free.

You should just try online via screen share ect... That is what most people do, so this give you the most options.

Screen sharing works faster than meeting up with people I work with locally most of the time.

Why would you expect someone to give away their time to you for free?

    1. If someone is willing to give their time away for free there's usually a very good reason for that. The best mentors I know charge a LOT of money for mentoring because their time is worth so much money to them. If they are not spending that time mentoring you then they could be spending it in their business and making even more money. So they have to be compensated accordingly.

    2. If you are going into this looking for free help then I think your attitude is wrong right from the start. Most people who get things for free do very little with them because they have nothing to lose. If you want to make it in this industry and are truly serious about things then put your money where your mouth is and put your butt on the line. It's the only way you will give things the serious attention they deserve. I learnt that the hard way.

I mean that with all due respect. I've seen it happen many times over with my own products and others. The people who succeed are not the freebie seekers but those who are prepared to invest in their future and take things seriously. So look for someone who is already doing exactly what it is you want to do, hassle them to mentor you, and be prepared to pay them accordingly.

    I agree with WillR.

Plus why go offline? Plenty of great help online. Although I will agree it is hard to weed through all of the stuff that is out there and that can be discouraging, but there is a ton of great stuff free for the having if you look deep enough.

This forum is a gold mine!

One resource outside of here that I always recommend to people is the Dot Com Secrets X training by Russell Branson, not free, but pretty dang close and really good info on there.

The key is to find one or two goo-roo's who are legit and follow them, do not get distracted with other stuff.

If you really want someone to give you advice you should
be willing to give something in return for it.

That doesn't have to be money but if you're dealing with
a successful person then they want to be sure you're not
      just wasting their time.

They'll want to see committment and effort before they
invest time they could be using making money on you.

So think through what you might offer someone in
      exchange for their advice.

Can you work for them free?

Can you offer to bring them clients or something else
      of value?

      Kindest regards,

It's expected, unless it was someone that is already like part of my family or close circle of friends although that is very unlikely, because then I probably wouldn't be here asking questions. And even then I know I'd be in their debt for a long time.

This is the most important part you brought to my attention. I completely agree that Commitment and Effort is necessary to succeed.

I can't just ask for someone's advice and then not really put in any effort and expect results. Commitment and Effort from Me is even more important than the money or compensation.

They can show me the door but "I" have to be the one to walk through it.

Bringing clients sounds like a good exchange although I don't know what is the best way for me to do that. Maybe I could make flyers or cards or whatever to spread the word regarding my future mentor(s)'s online or offline business? I guess that might be a start.

I wouldn't mind working for them for free as long as I know it's something I can do and get done right. If I was uncertain how or what to do I need direction and clarity.

Anything not too difficult or something I don't really enjoy doing.

In a previous thread I started I've stated that writing skills had been my greatest concern when it comes to making money online and becoming an internet marketer and I don't feel interested enough to write article after article after article using a blog format type of site for internet marketing and making money online.

Although I am aware I can do my best to try and find better writers and outsource that component if it's unavoidable, and yes I know it will require an investment, but if it save me time and frustrations then that's just what I rather do.

Others have advised me to go with focusing on making videos instead.

I've yet to figure out what's the best way to do that when it comes to making money online.

I know how to make video captures of video games and computer activity (screencasting?) and convert various formats of videos using various converters. I've done that before so I don't know if that would be of any help.

In many businesses just talking to a few of their best prospects
          in person would help.

Third party recommendations can be very powerful.

You can even just roll with the plain honest truth: "Jim from xyz suppliers
has been giving me business advice out of the goodness of his heart and
I felt like I should give him something back in return which is why I'm
          talking to you..."

Would be great if I could find one of these "goo-roos" locally.

Staying Focused is very important I agree, just like any real job or even in school.

Minimize and eliminating distractions should be something I should deal with first to ensure I'd stay focus on my goals and not get distracted thus reducing setbacks and frustrations.

One thing that worked for me to get me from the mode of continuous learning into action was I found a few local businesses with horrible websites. I asked them if I made them a really cool website and gave it to them for free and they liked it way better than their existing, would they let me throw my name at the bottom "websites by Mike" with a link to my site... Long story short, I had a guy on here for $50 do a really nice site, and they loved it, and I never needed a coach, I just used that prominent business owner to network through his list and got a few referrals, and the ball started rolling. No need really for more learning, just go help someone in the community who needs it but also is fairly large, or knows a lot of people (chiropractors are great)

Contact your local S.C.O.R.E. office. S.C.O.R.E. stands for the Service Corps of Retired Executives and is a division of the Small Business Administration (SBA).

Type your zip code into the little green box on the top, righthand side of the page to find someone in your area.

Free Small Business Advice | How-to Resources | Tools | Templates | SCORE

Help from S.C.O.R.E. is always free.

    Hope that helps!
