Noob needs help monetizing marketing efforts.

I need HELP. I have been doing my own marketing for years. I drive a decent amount of traffic to my site.

Now I have a company that wants me to IM for them. They are willing to pay me based on the increase in converstions at thier site, from the traffic that I drive.

How do I track the traffic that I drive to thier site? I was going to use a sub-domain on my site and redirect to thier site, so that I can controll the traffic if they dont pay up. My problem is that they have organic traffic already, and I need to be able to identify and track the traffic that I create? Any suggestions??????

I thank you in advance for any ideas.

If your driving traffic with SEO then get paid upfront. It's too risky to rely on Google. Otherwise you can use tracking links to see how many clicks they get.

I hope you're getting some sort of salary. You can make Google love your site. They change algorithms so often you could be working for free!

What type of marketing you are going to use and do you have access to their website traffic report?

I use Google Analytics on most of my sites. There are some other good tracking tools out there but most cost money to use. Google's is free. Check it out. You need a Google email but that is easy and no cost to sign up for. Good luck!

Deals where a client doesn't pay you upfront are a dime a dozen.

And they're worth about that much too.

The problems with these deals are:

    # You won't get paid. If you do get paid it will be a fraction of
what you should be getting paid (can you believe businesses
lie about the sales you produce for them?)

    # The client will be problematic. They have nothing invested in this
so they have nothing to lose. They're playing hokey pokey with
your time and effort hoping to get a return without putting anything
    in themselves.

    # Because they're not paying upfront they have no committment to
doing everything they can to convert the leads you send them into
paying clients. It's all free for them. Why should they care?

My suggestion: charge a substantial fee upfront before you do any
    work.

In fact I recommend you charge enough upfront so that if you never
get paid another cent you're happy doing the work.

You're holding the cards here. If someone wants the customers you can
send them make them pay upfront just to do business with you.

Then they'll respect your time and the leads you send them and they'll do
everything they can to make things work and to convert leads.

    Kindest regards,
    Andrew Cavanagh

  • Check if they had any tracking already set up -ie. google analytics.

If so use this information to compare # of visitors and other ranking factors.

Otherwise consider charging a consultant's fee for the work.
Do a 15-minute SEO analysis and give them your results and your plan.

Ensure they understand that you can measure results and prove your valuable service.

You can prove the worth of your apparent high fees by completing the analysis and providing a campaign outline and measuring results.

Make sure you put a call tracking number on every web property you will be working on for them - set up a new one if that is the only way... That is the only true way you will be able to tell how many calls you generated for that business.
