Listen to the Right People

Lately, I've been trying to give back a little more on here. I've been given a wonderful amount of information and have seen fortunate enough to finally find success after about 4 years at it.

The best piece of advice I can give to anybody starting out, or stuck in a rut, is to listen to the right people. Educate yourself on something, and stick to it. Find all sorts of information you can about it, and get after it! Go ahead and listen and absorb, but make sure you're listening to people who are genuine, transparent, and have tangible results to show.

Once you start listening to the right people, success is soon to follow.

  • True, and many people can go a week or more without really expanding the people they know in a meaningful way. One person can change everything and as you get used to meeting people, it is fun, easy and rewarding too.
  • Right on. When you find that one person who opens your eyes, you know.

    • There are plenty of Marketers that know their stuff. When you connect with the right one you'll know it. Have you ever purchased an item that one size fits all?

Its either too small or it hangs off you. Based on my experience, some marketers are not good teachers, period. I have a few that I listen to that are on the same page and we understand each other.

You'll be able to pick-up that they are just repeating what someone else taught them.

  • Fantastic Advice,

    I heard this twice today,

one in the morning when I met my university teacher on London underground and he was curious on how I am going around with IM. The only advice he gave me is to always listen to those who know more than you... [he is a part timer Internet Marketer himself]

Now heard it for the second time from you. Great Advice.

  • Really good advice - listen to the right people that are successful. Take their advice, and follow their footsteps. It will save you a lot of time, money, and headache.
  • I agree. It's pretty powerful when you surround yourself with people who are just as ambitious, if not more so, as you are. Great things happens that way.

    • Absolutely. Surrounding yourself with people who are ambitious about the right things, as you are.

Yes. Although there's a bounty of information available, deciphering what works and you can actually apply is key.

    • This is great.

I think that's about first finding out who you are and knowing your goals, then you'll know the questions to ask. Then, you find the right people with the right answers to those questions. There's a ton of answers out there, but it's piecing together the right answers.
  • True and very valuable point of view. Otherwise you just wasting your time and money.
  • One of my faourite experts is Paul Myers.

I used to think he was just an annoying forum moderator until I got on his list.

All of his stuff is well worth taking a look at.
  • Newbies.......READ THAT AGAIN!!!! It took this person 4 YEARS to find success, not 4 hours, 4 days, 4 weeks or even 4 months. Building your online business TAKES TIME. You have to be willing to put in the time to get there!!!!

This is absolutely the best advice for beginners out there. Pick ONE marketing strategy and devour it!

    • 4 LONG AND DIFFICULT YEARS! I'll say this: it wasn't easy, I wanted to give up a LOT, but it was all worth it.

Once you find that one method that works for YOU, you've got to OWN it!

  • Just one question: how do I find the right people? The issue is that some people will not tell you the truth. So, how will you know who to really listen to? You said in your post that they should be "genuine, transparent, and have tangible results to show" all these qualities can be easily faked online!

    • Using Common Sense Will Certainly Help In Deciding If The Person Is Right...
  • You've got to research them. Do your due diligence. Find legitimate reviews on them and their product/service. Talk to them prior to purchasing. Use your own best judgement.
  • It's all very valuable advice. But don't just listen to one person. Draw on the experience of several mentors for differing aspects of your business. Don't forget your personal development either. Apart from the financial stuff, YOU are your business and you need to DEVELOP too! Check out some of the teachings by Jim Rohn. You may need to improve your writing skills, check out John Carlton.
Success leaves clues so find the the most successful person for each aspect of your business, apply their teachings and you will find it hard not to move forward.

    • Exactly. Unless you pay them quite a bit, they likely won't give you all of the answers. But, they'll give you just enough to be able to add what you've learned from them with others and soon you'll have your own formula for success
  • Very good advice.

What really gave a boost to my marketing and business was taking a coaching program.

You're right, we have to listen and surround ourselves with people who are already where we want to be...

    Cheers,

    Gary
