If you could go back in time...

If you could go back in time and give yourself one tip that would help you make money what would it be?

For me it would be to stop procrastinating and just make a start.

Also, what type of internet marketing would you most like to learn or be better at? (hope I don't get a whole bunch of mobile marketing as offers )

What type of internet marketing is your favourite/which are you best at?

If I could go back and start over knowing what i know today, building a list would be what I would do no questions asked.
As far as the tip? stay away from the WSO section:p

So much right. Lists has become very important and it is one of the most best foundation in IM biz.

I'd invest in Google, buy a dictionary, and invest everything in Google & domain names.

Depending upon how far I went back, I might just buy Google outright, and hire some computer science graduates to create a beast SEO system before anyone else knew what was happening.

    Oh yeah.

    I'd own the warriorforum too.

And tell Frank Kern to start selling high priced products.

    I would make some investments

But in terms of advice, I would tell myself to get to work now.

I always assumed, too big of results would happen to me with too little work.

I would of bought a load of domain names. Makes you wonder if the same kinds of opportunities abound these days, things which will be worth a 100 times more in 20 years time online, I'm thinking probably not.

I would advise myself to stop relying on others in the beginning of my business years and take the time to learn all the processes myself before I delegated the work out. That way you can keep tabs on your workers and know how well they're performing. Plus if they decide to quit you're not screwed over by not knowing how to operate the systems they were running or not being able to do the tasks they were hired to do. In the end the only person you can rely on is YOURSELF.

Probably the best advice I could give myself is to just do it. I think that's a real problem with people who are trying to start a business online. "Think an Grow Rich" was great to get the ball rolling.

I would love to be a better affiliate. I've tried a lot in that area of IM but just haven't seen the results I want.

I can't say what I'm best at because I'm leaving the affiliate marketing world in hopes of being more successful at product creation.

If I could go back in time knowing what I know now, I would go to school but never get a job or start an IM business.

Instead, I would live a comfortable life of leisure making money by sports betting on games I already know the outcome of.

Funny to ask "If you had the power to go back in time what would you do?"

And the answer is "I would work harder" or "I wouldn't procrastinate".

You actually don't have to go back in time for that.

But to take some serious advantage of the 2008 market crash?

If you're gonna fantasize... may as well fantasize BIG.

If I could go back in time, this is what I would do.

I would not be selling any affiliate programs that paid me a one time commission. I have generated well over 3000+ sales in the past 4 years and from those sales, I have no residual income coming in.

If I had to start all over again, I would work with 2 tier residual income programs only.

Building lists is extremely important. Along with making a blog/site it is always the first thing I do.

I completely agree. I don't even consider affiliate programs that pay a one time commission no matter how good the commission is. Or if I do it won't get as much attention as the recurring commission programs. Recurring income is key.

Unrelated to IM: I would not have squandered my years as a professional musician. Back then (1977-1997) I always figured I had time to do more with it; even though I'd done a lot, I was always helping others make the big time instead of investing in myself. Health issues forced me into retirement from that career. So yeah, I would look after #1 if I had to do it over again.

Related to IM: Started in 1999, and spent years chasing shiny things and promises of shiny things. Knowing what I know now, I would finish that first website and monetize it as intended. The plans I had for that site were way ahead of their time, and were to contain everything possible to do on the Web (social networking, news feeds, interactive audio/video, and more), things that are all the rage today.

Unfortunately, I had WADD (Web Attention Deficit Disorder), and blew it.

So yes, I would definitely change that.

For me, it would be to take one project all the way through to
completion, and profitability, before starting the next.

I started many projects that I never finished because something
else caught my attention and I allowed myself to be pulled away
from one project to start another one that looked better.

Many of the projects that I got out into the marketplace weren't
profitable, but could have been made profitable with just a little
tweaking of the copy. Instead of putting a little effort into
split-testing, I often dropped those projects too soon, moving
on to another project. Some of those projects I went back to later,
tweaked them a little and voila, they became profitable

You say you sold your first seo blog. Could you link to the second? I would like to read it.

    • I would have created my own products sooner.
    • I would have created a membership website around each product line I built.
    • I would have built a list sooner.
    • I would have trademarked a couple of really cool-sounding brand names sooner.
    • I would have invested in paid advertising sooner.
    • I would have harnessed the power of free publicity sooner.
    • I would have spent less time coaching and more time selling.
    • I would have broken up with the unsupportive girlfriend much, much sooner.
    • I would have put away the TV a lot sooner.
    • I would have attended a seminar a lot sooner.

If I could go back in time I would read many posts in this forum everyday and study internet marketing very well before making costly mistakes.

I would never believe that I stopped being a newbie and that I know enough. I would keep studying forever.

I would prepare a smart business plan and I would use free platforms to test my skills and put the lessons I had learned into practice.

Then, I would hire Warriors to do for me the things I don't know (like building my websites) instead of trusting service providers from very dangerous websites like Elance and Odesk.

If I could give myself a tip, it would be get a one on one coach.

Of course a coach who can teach, is without any shadow of a doubt is successful at what I want to learn and responds relatively quickly to emails from (buyers and non buyers).

Something I believe is the most important thing to learn in IM is to drive traffic. Yes, conversion is important but without traffic we can't talk about conversion.

Something I like is seeing the result of what I do in the analytics. However, when the results are not great it may not be pleasurable.

All that has happened prior to the present has already happened. You can’t go back and tinker with the past, you can only go back and observe how it was.

Therefore, you can go back in time and watch reruns of how much you sucked at getting to where you are now

That's great advice. I'm still guilty of having too many projects going at one time. It's a hard habit to break.

But if I could only give myself one tip, it would be to diversify income streams, instead of relying on SEO alone, since one Penguin, Panda, Gooney Bird update can take it all away.

If I could start again I would ignore all of the glossy sales pages and wild claims of push button profits and sales with no site or traffic.

I would advise anyone starting out to sit down and think about what is really involved in working online. It is a business just the same as anything offline therefore it needs to be approached as a full on business .
Research your niche and what people want from it then devise a clear business plan with your customer in mind.
