My Mom was Broke, Then she Found this Amazon Niche and makes $800/week

Hey Warriors- Chiming in today with a cool little method my Mom gave to me the other day. My mother has always been living on the edge of poverty... I help her as much as possible, but she lives out of state, and doesn't like taking my help as much as I would like her to.

She called me and said she was making $300 a week on Amazon. Then she called me the next week and said now she was up to $500. This continued up to this week when she said she is now making about $800 a week... So finally I said, HOW MOM? Get to the juicy stuff...

With her permission, I told her I would share it with the Warrior Forum as others out there may be struggling to make money and this may help them... So here it is;

WHAT YOU WILL NEED;
- Android or iPhone with ShopSavvy Free App
- Sign up for Amazon Sellers Account
- Bank Account for Payouts
- Up to $100 or so to spend. Borrow this from Family or friends if needed.

WHAT YOU WILL DO;
On the weekends, make a fun trip of it to head out to your local Thrift Stores and Flea Markets. Bring your phone fully charged with your ShopSavvy App ready to go. Go to the Book Sections and just spend some time scanning the barcodes of some books and even PC Software/Games if they have any, and ShopSavvy will tell you what those books are selling for on Amazon in different conditions.

When you find a book or PC software that is selling for a good profit based off what it costs at the flea market/thrift store, put it in your cart. Don't be afraid to NEGOTIATE the price before purchasing as you may be able to get a better price if buying multiple books together. Remember, your trying to make as much of a profit margin as possible. School Books, Text Books, College Books, and Rare Books are the most profitable and are where you will really make your money... Believe it or not, you will find TONS of these in Thrift Stores and Flea Markets for dirt cheap!

At the end of your Weekend, List all of your inventory. Remember to include Shipping cost on Amazon to cover your shipping expenses.

If you want to get a quick-start, ask a few friends or family members to buy a couple books and leave you positive feedback. More people will buy your inventory on Amazon if you have some feedback over no feedback.

Over the course of 2-4 weeks, as your inventory grows, your weekly profits will grow as well. My mother went from making $300/week profit to now $800/week profit with over 450 items in her inventory on Amazon!

----- ENJOY

Cool idea. Requires a lot of work though but definitely a good way to get started "making money online" that you can reinvest.

Yeah, this method surely involves some foot work... But it's a pretty reliable way to generate more money each week than a entry level job would provide to you. It can help you fund additional online marketing opportunities

Well done your mum. I've met people who do similar things on Amazon/Ebay by buying brand name baby clothes at jumble sales, washing and ironing them and selling them, or buying brand names in the sales at discount stores and selling them on. Hard work, but once you know your niche you soon learn what sells. If you are a shopaholic it's probably great fun too.

Yes, I figure this method using ShopSavvy can be applied to just about anything as well with a Barcode. Books, Software, Games, DVD's, etc.

Nice to see that your mom is doing really well on Amazon. Just shows you that with the right effort and the right attitude, anyone can succeed online.

Amazon is just one of many places or ideas that one can implement to do really well on the internet.

Plus, your mom is very lucky because most people will do everything possible and still not make as much as she does. Good for her.

How do you find out if the book cd game etc is actually selling on Amazon, just because it is listed doesnt mean it will sell.

This is an old method that was WSO'd and talked about years ago. Infact I think I have a WSO on this method from before ShopSavvy was even thought of.

People say its a lot of footwork but if you are out shopping and see some discount / reduced stuff it would be worth a quick scan just to see if it would be profitable.

Its good to see it still works.

I was contemplating making an app that would list an Amazon listing for a book based on the ISBN, maybe I will now.

I believe ShopSavvy shows you how well an item is moving and selling. I may be wrong. She said something along those lines.

What an interesting idea your mom has. I think it would work for anyone willing to put in the time. Did she say how many hours a week she picks through things at the stores?

I love creative people that will do what it takes to succeed.

I've already done this, there is a cliche in the idea, as some people on amazon will try to sell their books for less than a dollar and not the rates it should be, so its harder now than it was in the past to make an income in this field. I did this 2 years ago its not a new idea at all, its all over the internet.

I agree. I tried this last year and ran into the same issue. Looked at it again using some new and old books I had laying around after reading this thread. If the book is even remotely known, you can easily find used ones going for just a penny. I don't know how someone can compete with that.

TheCLPro, is your mom picking out certain books? It must take forever to find books that are not already being sold for a penny.

Glad everyone likes the idea! Yes, this has been done before, and I am sure it has been done for a while, but it's a great method for anyone looking to build up some income and get out and have some fun with a workout. My mother is glowing from the compliments, she feels like a superstar! HAHA

Nowhere I see in the OP that this was an original idea, yet
some people are arguing that is not original. This is what
his mother is doing to make money and it's a great idea.

And you don't have to be original to be helpful.

Roughly how many books/DVDs is she selling per week to make 800$. The idea seems neat but still not very clear on how to implement it.
So your mom identifies items which are being sold at a cheaper price in used bookstore compared to Amazon.
She creates an inventory of all the items in sellars central account on amazon.
When someone orders her items, "she does the shipping and packaging to the buyer"?

Amazon makes its cut for referral fee and all, and she gets to keep the rest.. Is that correct?

Congrats to your mom. When there is a will, there is a way.

You could have helped your Mom out more by creating a PDF and a short video, then selling it as a WSO. So good on her that she is willing to share her method with everyone for free!

Original or not, the important part is that his mom is earning around $800/week and that's enough to get people pumped up.

Tell your mom that she's great! And continue to work smarter.

    Bad ASS!

A couple of weeks ago, I was at Walmart and, right in the front, they had the "clearance" shelf. My girlfriend was grabbing flowers or God-knows-what so I just broke off and the kid in me started frolicking around in there looking at stuff.

It was all mainly girly things—nail polish, hair dye, etc.

Anyway, something spotted my eye: a very futuristic looking box that looked like a razor blade, but it was actually some sort of recharge for an at-home laser hair removal thing. I don't know.

I thought that it had to be worth more than the $1 they were charging for it on closeout, so I just wanted to figure out what the thing WAS.

Looked it up, the system sold for like $400, and the recharges were something like $50 each on ebay.

There were about 20 of them there.

I smiled and thought "why not."

I spent about $15 bucks total. Put them up on Ebay and Amazon at like $45 each + some shipping. Made allllmost a grand in a week or so.

MORAL #1: OP is very right. Also check out the closeout sections of your walmart etc if you want. Why? Because it might just be that people in the area aren't looking to buy $50 refills for a $400 at home hair removal system. The product might be popular elsewhere.
    MORAL #2: $1000 is $1000. I have no shame :-)

Creativity at its best. Although, this idea has been around for a while now but the fact is that the idea does not apply itself, it needs a smart person to recognize and implement that idea. Kudos to your mom.

Thank you for sharing this idea and making the five minutes I spent reading this worth a lot more.

Yep this is an old method but can be very effective.

To cut shipping costs buy mailers in bulk on eBay, recycle peanuts and other packaging materials. Invest in a small scale so you can weigh, pack and ship from home. You have to present certain weights at the PO but if you get to know your mail man they may take them.

Amazon does give you x amount for shipping but make sure you have included extra padding in the price as they usually give you just enough to cover standard book shipping. If you are shipping bulky toys etc. it costs a lot more. Flat rate shipping boxes can be great for heavy items.

Order USPS flat rate shipping boxes, tape etc. at USPS - no charge and delivered to your door.

Don't want the hassle of shipping individually? Third party vendors on Amazon will buy SOME items. Just look for the "sell yours for a gift card" next to items you own in the product section. You can pack them all up in one box, run off the free label they provide and bam you are done. There are also other places that will directly purchase your electronics and books.

I have been making money on amazon selling books, DVDs small items and other media items and I do very well.

It is a lot of work to be scanning books before you buy. If you want to make money quickly don't bother scanning. If you are interested in knowing how to do this profitably see my link below for more information.
