Hey Warriors

So I want a blog to experiment with. I would like the blog to be full of useful original content, but I already spend my time writing articles for others and do not wish to spend more hours writing content, and I do not like spinning PLR articles. So My question to you is, do people still do guest blogging?

If I create my blog on the subject of making money online, and then offer people a free permanent backlink from the home page if they submit a unique and helpful article, would that create any interest? I understand it has been regularly done before, but I don't seem to hear much about it these days.

Thanks!

Yes it is still done. You actually might want to target top sellers on Fivver in exchange for linking back to their offers. Many of the writers and web builders on Fivverr would be interested in this and might already have articles they can spin for you.

I am not SEO guy but a brand new blog, without authority if starts sending links to other websites from every single post will be considered as spam blog by search engines. SEO guys correct me if I am wrong.

You are half right. Sure if I were to be linking to 100's of people each week as soon as it is created then yes, google would see it as spammy. But 2 or 3 links every week? Not so bad.

Ben, let me ask you this...

If you don't want to spend time writing your own content, ar you okay with wading through tons of submissions in search of that permanent backlink? Especially if you insist on making the blog about IM/MMO.

If you go ahead with this, I'm predicting one of a few things will happen.

    > You could approve anything, and end up with a spam-laden link farm that does both you and contributors more harm than good.

    > You could end up spending hours sorting through submissions from SEO backlinkers who don't mind running PLR or stolen content through spinners, and give up the project in despair. This is why you don't hear much about the strategy these days, in my not-so-humble opinion.

    > You could end up with your choice of high-quality targetted content with no expectation other than that backlink. You'll ride your unicorn to the bank where you deposit a leprechaun's worth of gold at the end of every day...

Guess which one is the most likely...

Yes guest blogging is still most certainly done.

As for your idea of offering people a link on homepage.. I wouldn't recommend that. Just how many homepage external links can you offer any way without compromising quality?! Try sticking to author bio links, guest bloggers don't mind it one bit - or contextual links in the post.

But first I'd say try and get your blog going - publish some good solid content yourself first, then consistently do some relevant blog commenting on the best blogs in MMO niche (and there are countless of those so this shouldn't be too hard)

..and THEN is when you're likely to receive some good guest blogging proposals (make a new page offering guest posts, list your blog in guest posting directories like MyBlogGuest, etc.) And you wouldn't have to worry about writing new content yourself again. Just make the guidelines clear and review every post before hitting publish - at least for new authors on your blog.
