Resurrecting an old forum. How?
I'm new here and I'm new to internet marketing. I have a forum for fitness professionals that I have had since 2006. It was once a fairly active forum but has long since gone by the wayside (only 4k visitors last month) thanks to all the spammers. I completely get why the person who owns this forum started charging a registration fee. Spam destroyed my forum. I wish I had thought about charging a one time registration fee. Anyway, I have a few thousand registered users, some of them spammers, some are not. I recently paid someone to help me clean up the list of registrants but I still have no idea how many of those are valid email addresses.
Now that I am understanding internet marketing a little better I am kicking myself because I had something good going and I had absolutely no clue. I was approached several times to sell my forum but I saw it as a fun little hobby so I ignorantly declined.
Many of the posts are outdated by now and there is still some lingering spam. Should I close my forum and open a brand new forum under a new domain and send out a mass email to all of my registrants announcing the new forum?
I am completely stuck here. I hate vbulletin software (that's what I'm using) and I want something more simple and user friendly.
Can anyone give me any guidance at all? I don't want to completely destroy something that could potentially still make me a little money.
Thanks so much!
