What was your 'lightbulb' moment
Firstly i would like to say thanks to everyone that contributes to the WF, the level of knowledge and expertise on here is outstanding. Secondly i would like to apologise for not coming here nearly enough. I have been a member here for years but never contributed but i now promise if i feel i can add value, i will. I kinda got addicted to the forum when i was going through the shiny object phase and knew i had to stop. I didn't utilise the forum for all the good in it, i used it more as a distraction or a catalyst or my personal procrastination.
I appreciate that what i am about to ask is a platform for procrastination but used in the right way can re-energise your focus by reminding you of you first main trigger to take action.
What i am asking is what was your 'lightbulb' moment - the moment you knew you had to make a change? It could be before you first started in IM or something learned that pushed your conversions higher, anything at all actually
Mine is simple and very recent. As i say I have been here for a while but i never took any action. 10 weeks ago my wife gave birth to my first child which is life-changing but this isn't my lightbulb moment where i knew i had to change. I have a day job that i work a minimum of 50 hours per week and that doesn't include the hour to and from work in travel.i work at a decent level with a pretty decent salary, a salary that provides adequate security in terms of i can afford all day to day bills.
You might call it a comfort zone
I was asked at my appraisal/review at work what my work goals were and gave the usual reply i.e looking to move on in the company, career progression etc
When i left my appraisal i realised i had given answers to that question that would take me on a natural path but also answers that i wasn't overly passionate about.
When i got home that day i sat with a piece of paper and a pen (very important). I put 2 headers on the paper - Personal Goals and Work goals.
When you write down your personal goals it is really empowering so i would really recommend you do it. What i then set about doing was seeing how my work goals positively and negatively affected my personal goals. This is where my lightbulb moment came as i quickly realised that my work goals and work in general were directly affecting the goals i have in life.
2 quick examples - i want to be financially free. I don't mean i want to be a multi millionaire, yes it would be nice but i would like an income that affords me the luxury to pay all the bills but still have nice things and go on holiday(s) etc... Even with a promotion in my current place of work this wouldn't happen without an awful lot of saving. I want to be able to buy something when i need or want it
Secondly - i want to be the best dad i can be. Although i can do this alongside my current work, i can't devote the time i would like as some weeks i can work up to 65 hours (salaried so don't get paid for the overtime). The amount of occasions my colleagues have missed their kids school meetings, sports days, parties and so on isn't something that i want to replicate
For these reasons i have started taking genuine action online. I appreciate it will take a long time but building a business does. If anyone wants to help direct me or give me advice it would be greatly appreciated
But the whole point of this was to show you my lightbulb moment, the moment i knew i had to change to alter my path and i wanted to know what your moment was.
If you follow mine sit down with a pen and paper and really challenge yourself to come up with personal goals and work goals and relate each other. Ask yourself what has happened in the previous 5 years to get you to now and where you want to be in 5 years time
It worked for me and it may work for you
Thanks again Warrior Forum,
Alistair
