You build yourself a list of email addresses by selling products and/or giving away free things. Once you have that list you can then email them about your new products or other products you recommend.

That is email marketing in it's simplest form.

Do you have more specific questions?

Stop giving away freebies. Focus instead on establishing authority with your blogs or filter pages. A lot of people that sign up for freebies will never buy. Don't believe the hype about freebies. Focus on quality content first to gain the reader's trust.

You should be doing both. Nothing wrong with giving away free stuff. If done properly you can turn a lot of them into buyers. Just because they downloaded something for free does not mean they are not willing to purchase anything. I purchase lots of things but I also download a lot of free stuff if it's relevant for me. There are buyers everywhere. Your job is to make them want to buy your stuff.

        Cheers,

Give away a valuable freebie to get your foot in the door. Next you should provide pure value for the next 2 or 3 messages and then you should start creating messages that provide value and recommend products at the end of your messages. After that you can mix it up: pure value emails followed by promotional emails and so on.

Looks like you don't know the first thing about email marketing. Ok, (take a deep breath), here goes:

Purpose: The purpose of email marketing is to build a trustworthy relationship with your readers/customers/subscribers so that they feel that they can rely on your recommendations. Then you stand a better chance of selling products to them, either your own or those for which you are an affiliate.

Method: You 'capture' your subscribers to your email 'list' by using a 'squeeze page' or 'landing page'. This is simply a very straightforward webpage on which you promise something for free in exchange for the reader's email address.

Autoresponder: Normally the form on that squeeze page will come from your autoresponder service which will 'capture' the email address of anyone who signs up. You will need an autoresponder so that you can send out the same email to all your subscribers. Use paid autoresponders from Aweber, GetResponse, iContact, Ininbox among many others. Aweber, which is used by a lot of marketers here, have a $1 trial. Others have a free trial in many cases.

Keep in contact: An autoresponder service will give you the facility to send out a stream of 'follow-up' messages at intervals. You can therefore pre-load these messages and send them automatically to new subscribers. Most marketers will send out the first 5 messages daily and then vary the interval. You can also 'Broadcast' any message you want to send, for example to announce a product launch, at any time.

Don't spam: Subscribers don't like being 'sold' to all the time. Keep your emails interesting and full of information. Some marketers send messages which link to helpful blog posts, for example. Mix up your sales emails with ones giving free info or reports.

Keep a swipe file: Join a few other marketer's lists and keep a note of the emails which interest you. Notice how they use the Subject line to grab your attention. Notice also how the 'interesting' emails are structured to keep you reading until the end. Save these emails to a folder in your Inbox or copy them to a text file for inspiration. Don't copy them blindly but use your own words and let your character shine through.

Make it interesting: I'll echo what was said above, as it's good advice...

Only send emails to your list that you would be happy to read yourself.

If you think that you are chatting, online, to a friend when you write your emails you'll get the idea.

Good luck in building your email marketing list.

Email marketing is a kind of direct marketing. Marketers will send out a large volume of emails at once to subscribers who have agreed to receive emails by clicking send on their professional email marketing software. When servers received the sending command, they will execute the command by sending out the same message to every email address on the list. After sending email, the professional email marketing software will offer a comprehensive report about how your email campaign performed.

some very good advice here, make sure you build big lists, test, fail, but record stuff that works.

I have big lists in several niches, and still in 2013 nothing works as good as email, trust me.

I have failed, at things building lists, but also I have had huge successes with email marketing too, like bringing in $31k from a small list under 1000 people.

You just have to test things, and keep doing things that work, and stop doing things that do not work. Pretty simple really.

Give away a Valuable Offer preferably one that you created to legally bribe them to opt-in to your email list... I dunno why the guy above said to not give away free stuff... I do that to build my list and I make my full time living from internet marketing..

Once you have them on that list then have a nice follow up sequence in place building a relationship to your subscribers with Valuable Training....

Offer them products of your own or affiliate products that you BELIEVE will help your subscribers and then profit...

It's as simple as that... It is more complex that what I said but I just wanted you to get the gist of it... Having an email list has provided me to never work for another person again and it is the most important part of my business...

Get to work and start building that list and you'll be set...

    I do agree with Will!!!

This is the most simplest form of explanation that anyone could give.

Email marketing is a way for you to communicate with your subscribers. To offer value, for feedback, to offer solutions, to build relationships.

    Hi Mirza,

Yeah email marketing is a fantastic way of capturing someones
email address in exchange for FREE in formation on a particular
subject that someone is very interested in.

But once you have placed them onto your list, you then have the
chance of being able to build relationships with them, recommend your
own products and services to them and recommend affiliate products
    to them also.

The limits are endless once you begin to see the true POWER of what
    email marketing can do.

You just have to stay FOCUSED on what is important and that is to
build your list, build strong relationships, add value, make good sales.

    Hope this helps!
    Gavin

I wouldn't consider software as such.

But there are numerous email marketing autoresponders out there such as GVO, Aweber, Get Repsonse, iContact... You can probably find a ton of opinions about these companies by using the search feature here on the forum.

    All the best.

Email Marketing is a way to communicate with a group of people who are interested in the same subject matter you are.

A simple three step formula to Email Marketing is:

    1. Create a Squeeze page with a free offer (like an ebook) with an opt in form to capture your visitors email addresses.

    2. Drive Traffic: This can be done through Social Media, Forums, Blog commenting, Social Book marking, Article Marketing, Newsletters, and Paid Traffic

    3. Promote Products:Once someone has signed up to your list you want to send them massive free value that can truly help their lives. You want to connect with them.

Tell them who you are, where you came from, and a story that they can relate with. And every so often in between your free emails you will promote offers that are of high value.

So the real key to email marketing is to not sale all the time -- but treat each email as a real person and try to help them the best you can, while selling a product occasionally.

    1. create a great squeeze or lead capture page
    2. Send high quality traffic to the offer
    3. Follow up everyday with your list providing them great value, and making offers

I personally mail my list every single day, and make offers every day, I make great money and my unsubs are low and my open rates are high

The idea that you have to bribe people to opt in blind to get a free ebook or whatever is ridiculous.

Sure squeeze pages have their place at times but 99% of people would be much better off if they forgot about squeeze pages and sent all their traffic to sites filled with great content and value and then simply asked their visitors to opt in if they'd like to receive updates / more of the same or even better after letting them absorb all that awesome content if they'd like to buy something from you.

It's an all round better experience for everyone that way. You get what you want (an email address to add to your list / a sale) and your visitor gets awesome content and more of it to come soon...everyone is happy.

Squeeze pages just annoy people, they force people to give something away they'd rather not give away (their email address) upfront without getting anything in return first. It starts off the relationship on a bad foot and means lower response rates to emails than the marketer would like.

Give them lots of value up front without asking for anything THEN asking them to give you their email address / buy makes for a much happier and more responsive subscriber.
