I have seen Fiverr all over the Internet.

A lot of people are doing well and making money with this site.

I came up with this idea: I was thinking about starting a gig on Fiverr taking pictures holding up a sign next to the Gateway Arch (a famous landmark in my city) with website or company name on it for five dollars.

If this is a good idea, what kind of camera should I use for this gig? I have an old digital camera-would this be ok? Also how should I send picture back to customers by email or regular mail? I was trying to save on postage. What do u think? This would be my first time doing something like this.... Also I have strong typing skills. I type 70 wpm. I am trying to think of gig to make some money on the side online.

    In my opinion, as a customer I would prefer you used the best possible camera at your disposal because if I were to use the image in any marketing material I would want it to be the best quality.

    I myself use a Canon Rebel T2i for all of my photography.
    and all delivery would be done via email, nothing through the post office at all.

    If you're really serious about starting a gig on fiverr maybe think about printing out fliers for people and posting them on public billboard areas or leaving a couple on the public transit etc.. (especially if you live in a busy area) I'm sure you'd get some gigs for that.

    You could offer writing services, my best advice for that is to look at the gigs already offering writing services and see how they structure their pay (upsells etc) and what exactly they're offering, pick something you know you can do and give it a try.

    Regardless if you spend a bit of time browsing the other gigs that people offer there will be something you'll see that you know you can do, don't hesitate just get on there and start your gig and get ready for some sales!

    Your idea sounds like it would work on Fiverr, make sure to add a video with it, so people can see what it will look like. I'm no camera expert, but your photos have to be blazing-really good to draw people to your gig.

    I just can't see the logic in giving away so much of your time for $5. Think about it. Getting the gig details from the customer. Writing the sign. Going to the location. Taking the photo. Coming home and formatting the photo. Sending the photo. Alerting the customer their gig is ready. Man, you should go and work at McDonalds if you want to give your time away for so little money. You would be better off washing cars for a living or busking. You'd make a lot more money.

    I'm all for making money but if you place such little value on your time then you will never take the next step and make big money.

    I could understand if it were a front end service leading into a more expensive backend service such as if you were offering article writing and could then upsell them more expensive options, but I don't see that upgrade ability in offering such a random service like this.

      That statement is so wrong. By that logic the high school kids that start by flipping burgers at McDonalds will end up flipping burgers or doing kitchen jobs for the rest their lives.

      Maybe this is the first time he is doing something online. There are more important things he can learn right now. If nothing else he can learn how to deal with the customer. How to over deliver for customer satisfaction. As you mentioned, nobody else would want to do so much work for so little. This is an opportunity to develop a good attitude that he can later use to make the big money.

      Why not? You are assuming that if he offers this particular gig, he can never offer anything else for the rest of his life. If he can establish himself as someone who over delivers, he can offer anything after that and people will pick it up without hesitation.

        The irony is, the burger flippers will be making 4 times more money, than the OPs suggested venture

        All that labor for 4 measly bucks. Much better ways to learn the ropes and get a foot in the door.

    If you are looking for any service on fiverr that you can offer to make money, and not necessarily just this one, then it's as easy as finding other services that are already popular. Then just make gigs for them yourself and offer something more/better/different from the other sellers to entice the customers to choose you over them.

        People who offer these services usually have some sample photos and would see your stance is exactly the same in each photo. So you would need to tell them you were using a templated photo.

          Sure, it's a good idea. Other people are doing it, so why not you?

          I would find an inexpensive HD Digital Camera. This will take photo's that your clients will be happy with, as well as allowing a simple way of delivering the images. You can send the file to your client directly through Fiverr, no email or postage required.

          Not only should you make a video for your clients, but you should make a few collages of photos you have taken that relate to your service. Post all of your videos to YouTube and you could get a decent amount of traffic without any added effort on your part.

          This gives me some inspiration. What if you take a few images with different angles, each holding blank signs. Lets say 5-10 pictures. You package these up in a .zip file with a PLR license, and you sell them as an Add-On gig for $10.

          If you live in a seasonal area, you could make a package of 5-10 images during each season, and sell the packages individually.

          To minimize time, and maximize profits, you can give your gig a delivery time of 7 days, and explain in your description that you make the trip once each week to take multiple pictures at a time. Then you can add an addon gig for 2 day delivery time, which will cost an additional $10.

          So now you've added 5 addons (each at $10) to your 1 gig to maximize it's potential. You've created a video for your gig page, and posted it on Youtube for extra visitors. And, you only have to make a single trip for multiple gigs each week, or get paid $15 for a gig to complete the task within 48 hours.


          Now you need to figure out what to do for your second gig, and all of it's addons.

            You are a little confused. Being realistic and being negative are two very different things. The OP asked what we thought of the idea and I told him. I think it's a LOT of time to be giving away for only $5. There are much more sensible ways to use your time. I am not going to build up people who I think are doing silly things. Where is the purpose in that?

            What is the point of coming online to work even harder than you would offline? That's not smart.

            If I see a good idea, I'll tell you. If I see a bad idea, I'll tell you. If you want to go around sugar coating everything that is your own choice... but we don't all live in fairy land unfortunately.

            Right now, I have a point and shoot type digital camera. Its an Olympus with 8.0 pixel, FE 310, 5x optical zoom and video capability. Do you think this will work for the gig? I can always upgrade once I start making money from gig.

            Also I would like to create photo template(s) to may it easier for this gig - doing it this way I will not have to run back and forth down to the actual landmark to take pictures with sign. Dont I need photo shop or similar software to create template? Do you know where I can download software for free without a 30 day trial period?

      For those of us who are trying to be HELPFUL. Please take a look at this category ON FIVERR specifically for "Holding Signs".
      Check them out to get an idea of what other people are doing to sell these kinds of gigs.

      You could use this gig to get your feet in the door. When you deliver the gig, include a Thank-You and an invitation to other services. If you send a report with your delivery, you could include a website link that offers a wide range of services for marketing and advertising.

    I would definitely go the Photoshop route if you were going to do this! You can borrow a decent camera from someone if you don't have one yourself. Getting to the place taking the pic, getting home, uploading the image and emailing it to your client is waaay to much work for the $4 you get paid my friend!

    You said you are good at typing?? Why don't you start looking at writing your own content for your own site/blog put up some Google Ad's or affiliate banners?? Will work out better than your $4 for over an hours work i'd say!!

      Hi Lisa,

      I am trying to setup Fiverr gig to work smarter not harder. I would take shots from different angles and create some type of picture template with Photoshop or similar software. This way I could edit template and email pic to customer. This would be my first time doing this...I know I can check out YouTube tutorials to learn how to create a picture template.

      I have never done content writing before; Guess I would have to practice writing content to get good at it. Right now, I do not care to deal with blogging. Any other ideas to put my strong typing skills to use?

      iPhone 5 has a good camera for a phone. But it can't even begin to compare to even a low-end SLR (of which there are several available for under $1,000).

        IMHO, the OP is looking for a relatively low-cost method of generating money, so it wouldn't be prudent for him to spend $500-$750 on a SLR camera. I think the iPhone 4S/5 camera is fantastic for this use, especially when you edit the photos in Camera+, Snapseed, or ElementFX.

        There are tons of apps in the App Store which will do a professional job of editing the photo and making it look more HD/dynamic/etc, and with the addition of the LifeProof case and it's optic lens, I believe that the quality of the pictures increases dramatically.

        For getting the job done on the cheap, I'd lean towards working with what he already has (or spending less than $25 on apps to professionally edit the photos) over paying less than $1,000 on an SLR. Just my thoughts 2¢.

      I am simply trying to come up with an idea to make money like others on Fiverr. That is what this forum is all about: to share money making ideas.

      I figured sense others are getting paid to stand in front of a well known landmark, so can I in my hometown. The way I see it I will get paid a lot more than $4 if it pays off...People are making decent amount of money from this particular gig. This would not be my major income, just something to supplement my income on the side.

      As I've mentioned I would setup it up to work "smarter not harder".

      Can you think of some other ways I might be able to profit from with my accurate high speed typing skills? I am not into content writing or blogging?

    ..why not offer 'Video Transcription'.. It's a service that's widely required, the only skill needed is that of typing, which you have.

    Sounds like a solid idea to me. If you have an iPhone that would be better or something with lots of megapixels. Customers generally prefer to have items like that digitally delivered over being shipped to them as they are going to use them digitally more often than not.

    If you're determined to do the sign thing then do it smart. As someone suggested, hold up a blank sign. But don't stop there. Take 20 or 30 different poses. One with a tuxedo, one with a funny hat, one for each of the holidays, etc. Get creative. Show some energy. There are probably 100s of possibilities if you use your imagination.

    Then go home and do a search for small to mid sized companies. Companies like taverns and caterers and air conditioning companies and bowling alleys and the list can go on and on. Then photoshop the name or website or both into the blank sign. Of course you've got a big smile in every pose. Maybe the thumbs up signal with your other hand.

    Then get yourself an inexpensive little domain with a free Wordpress theme and call it Twin Brownie's Archway Photo.com or something. Then upload pics of the various companies to the pages of your site and send the link to the company with a Paypal donation button in the email.

    Have a message in the email and on the pages saying you're trying to make ends meet and if they like the pic they can use it any way they like and leave you a donation. Tell them most people leave $5 or $10 dollars (only if that's true). Some will and some won't. If you want you can put watermarks in the photos but I wouldn't bother. If they use it without paying, no biggie. Plenty of people will actually shell out a few bucks.

    I'd bet you'd make a WHOLE LOT MORE MONEY doing this than schlepping around fiverr collecting $3.87 per gig or whatever it comes to after fiverr and paypal take their cut. It would take no more than a camera, a Paypal account, and a domain and hosting at less than $10 a month to make it fly. Good luck.

    That sounds like a good idea. There are a lot of gigs like that on fiverr to hold a sign up in different places. Use the best camera you can. You can just submit your files through fiverr. Maybe make a video or at least take some still pictures of what the customers photo will look like.
