Anyone know if there's a Wordpress Plugin for this...

It's a long shot but I figured I'd ask...

I've done hours and hours of research on underused plugins (even created a WSO on the topic) but in all of my research I've yet to find a plugin to fill this need.

Here's what I want to do. We have a blog. 62% of the monthly traffic are new visitors who found us organically in search engines.

Our #1 goal is to get new visitors on our email list by offering free gifts and we send out weekly newsletters packed with good content. So... I want to plaster opt-in forms all over the blog so the opportunity can't be missed.

I'm talking before the post, after the post, in the middle of the post, in the sidebar (a few times if necessary).

BUT... this is a big BUT... after they opt-in to the list, I don't want them to see these opt-in forms anymore. Instead, maybe they could see ads for our products.

I've seen versions of what I want as plugins but nothing that replaces/removes the forms. It may have to be a custom job (which I almost know it will) but I figured I throw it out there.

If anyone has seen anything like this, I'd appreciate the heads up!

  • That would be SOME plugin - let me know if you find it Duston!
  • Haven't seen it yet. The person would always have to visit from the same IP or browser with cookies enabled for it to work.

Or they would need to login to WordPress to disable the ads if it's tied to their user account. If the plugin also locks content, I can see this login method working well.

However, I can definitely see a demand for this.

    • Yeah, I started working on this myself but it was a little out of my league as far as programming goes. I planned on using cookies.

  • Yes, it would have to be cookie based or login based for this to work.

You would essentially cookie the visitor when they opt-in, and if the cookie is present the main page will show ads instead of forms.

You should talk to some programmer about this. Probably wouldn't cost too much to outsource.

    Cheers...

    • This will be my next step. If I do, I'll probably get it made for others to use and add it to the Wordpress repository.
  • The only thing that I know of that comes close is the What Would Seth Godin do plug in...it uses cookies to change pop up content.

    • Yeah... love that plugin but it's just not enough in this case. Thank you!
  • Have a look at action popup which is a popup I always use.

Action PopUp: Attention-Grabbing Unblockable PopUps When Your Visitors Leave the Page...

Look especially at this bonus listed on the page:

Not sure if that will help or not but worth a look. I haven't used that feature myself.
    • [ 1 ] Thanks
  • Hey Will - I thought about using Action Popup (we have it installed on one of our non-Wordpress sites and it works great. I new the pop-up would not show again after someone subscribes but didn't realize there were other features. I'll have a look. Thanks!
  • Action Popup is the only plugin I've seen that could really do what you're talking about - but you have to remember that it isn't going to bulletproof - it is going to show for some people that have already opted in.

    • Yeah, I understand that... if cookies are cleared we're back to square one. But it will at least work for a lot of subscribers.
