Anyone been experiencing slow to non existent business days ever since the new Google Algorithm? I've listed my writing services for $5 to even $3 for 500 words, I haven't gotten so much of a bite. Same goes for some other services. Was wondering how everyone else is doing for their sales?

I'm not trying to promote my services, I've even excluded my signature. I'm just genuinely curious how everyone else is doing.

I use Fiverr for my small services like that. I am assuming that you just made a small website and advertise your services on it. Every Google update nowadays basically downgrades the rankings of websites that don't update constantly or post fresh content. It is a real pain now for bloggers and small website owners to get traffic. You should try just using Fiverr. I got five sales for my writing services alone in the first month.

It depends where you are offering your services. Some sites will always get hit when Google does an update but most times they are sites that deserve a drop in rankings because they were trying to artificially increase their rankings.

To be completely honest, I would just suggest selling on Fiverr instead of your own website - at least for right now till you build up a customer base.

My problem stems from the fact I just came directly from Fiverr. I've never had problems with sales. I missed a couple of deadlines due to actual emergencies(not the frequently used excuses that most writers will use),but I've never seen anything like this before! All but two people were pleased with my performance and quality of work. I'm pondering giving the content writing jobs a break. Thanks for the input folks

Maybe you can look at this as an opportunity to work harder and develop a better character that can benefit from adversity better. I have been where you are. There are many hills and valleys in self-employment. Use the downtime to improve your skills and boost your productivity. That's how I was able to go from barely 2000 words a day to 15,000 words a day while increasing quality. Adversity and hardships teach us a CRUCIAL LESSON: we can choose to become UNSTOPPABLE or we can choose to become helplessly dependent on external circumstances. I wish you nothing but the best. Don't stop writing. If it is your passion, don't let temporary setbacks stop you.

Sounds like I'm on the right path! Just taking some time off to work on some improvements. I'll be finding another part time job that I enjoy that can support my little ventures(just moved) until then.

Try advertising in the Warriors for hire or classified ads. You will get a lot of people looking at your offer. If it is compelling it will sell.

You can sell your service on fivver or directly message people in the forums and offer them your service.

I have a couple of sites that are doing less well now than they were doing.

The thing is, it used to be the case that if I checked them at night (10pm) for certain keywords, then they'd be nowhere in sight in serps. If I checked them pretty much any other time, for the keywords I want, there they are back upon page 1.

But in the past few weeks, they can be anywhere from nowhere in sight to up on page 1. Sometimes for one keyword, sometimes for another.

I don't rely on these sites for income - thankfully. But I'm pretty glad of that too! Can't figure out what Google's up to these days. I'm just glad I don're rely on SEO for my dough - lol

    All the best,

But what happens is IMers get freaked out (and rightly so - when your entire business relies on a single monopolistic company, you listen to what they say regardless of it's truth) and so when you start pitching $5 articles, it says:

"Hey, here is some low grade stuff. You know, the stuff Google just said NOT to put on your site."

Then a few weeks or months later, after people start getting lazy again, they go back to buying low cost writing services and praying that Google doesn't eventually figure out how to actually stop low quality content from ranking high.
Low cost does not have to mean low quality.

Maybe its time to start looking at a different avenue for yourself?

If you are good at writing, you deserve to earn more than $5 for 500 words!!

I refuse to pay anyone to write my content, and I know all the people I am working with are pushing for people in our team to write their own content as "the internet wants YOU not some paid writer".

There will always be lazy marketers out there that need their content written for them, but there are also sooo many people offering to do it so cheap, its nuts!

There are tonnes and tonnes of ways out there that you can be making money from writing in your own time, about what you want and be making much more money than $5!! Get researching!

Do we really need to have that same old argument again?
Charge you want - pay what you want.

I think the main problem at the moment is not Google - it's the season. IM always slows down a bit during summer months.
