Need a release form for a product I had created..

I'm sure most of you create your own products, however i'm sure a lot of you also have products created for you by other people more suited to create them.

I was wondering if any of you have ever gone through this process, because what I'm in need of is a suitable release form that I can use to legally release the outsourcers content to me so I can sell the content as my own without any legal ramifications.

I've looked at Release Agreement Form LawDepot.com

This seems like it's meant mainly to settle disputes or claims of something that may have happened on a job of some sort.

I'm looking for a simple legal document that states that I payed the contractor a certain sum of money in exchange for the content to resell as my own and that they release all rights of ownership to myself.

Does anyone have any good recourse for me because I haven't been able to find anything that's applicable to this situation.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

It's good to always be safe, and I'm not a lawyer or giving any legal advice, but I would think since you are purchasing a service that you shouldnt have any problems.

If I was going to go this route I would have them sign a non-disclosure/compete before work. Which would protect (I think) what you are talking about. Along with protecting them from selling your product that they made for you.

Hopefully someone with more experience will chime in and give better advice.

This is just my 'opinion' and nothing more.

You can use a legal form for these issues. In some cases you can talk to your contractor and find out the specifics of what they offer.

The OP does have a legitimate concern in that not all writers will give up full rights to the content. Some of them will only sell first rights to the content, retaining the ability to reuse it later on. If this is not clear early on, make sure you get it in writing later on. Something as simple as e-mail correspondance should be plenty in case things get touchy later on.

As for the NDA and the non-compete clauses mentioned above, there is only one of which I would be willing to agree to beforehand. As a part-time ghostwriter myself I supplement my income with PLR sales. Some of my clients also own PLR stores. While I can't tell you who they are, I can tell you that I'm not going to shut down my store because a PLR seller hires me.

Well the thing is I didn't use any kind of outsourcing service like eLance or oDesk... He's a friend of mine who created some videos for me to be used as a video product so there's no mediator.

I looked up non-disclosure agreements, and I don't think this is applicable either. It's close, but it's mainly used to ensure the confidentiality of private information between the parties involved.

I need something that clearly states what took place..

I'm no lawyer and cannot produce a legal document that reads anywhere close to the way a standard legal document looks. It's kind of ridiculous. If I ever heard someone talk like that out loud I'd probably slap them..

Either way, I need it lol.

    Anyone else?

What you are looking for is an assignment of copyright. It should be signed before the outsourcer does any work for you. If they refuse to sign get a new contractor.

Cory D. In the future the first contract you have to do the work should be a work for hire contact that specifies the copyright goes to you. If the original work contract doesn't then you need the assighnment of copyright document. There are several places on the net dealing with writers that have examples - take a look at:

Docracy: All docs, sorted by date changed

    Sample Publishing Contract

Amazon.com: Business and Legal Forms for Authors...Amazon.com: Business and Legal Forms for Authors...
plus Warriors Kindsvator and BillSiler (forgive any mispellings) have had some WSOs and War Room entries on various contracts for publishing.

You may want to check out legal zoom as well, but I have experience with them. The physical book from Amazon above I've used since the mid 90's for my publishing endeavors.

    best wishes,
